Vivian with a cousin named Lillian?

Alright guys, I have a top best baby name list that I’ve been keeping up with since I was a little girl. One of the names on there is [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] and it’s been there for quite sometime, now my sister is pregnant and she is planning on naming her baby [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] (if it’s a girl). Now I’m pretty close to my sister [name_u]Lisa[/name_u], and I’m nowhere near ready to have a baby myself, but it has gotten me thinking about [name_u]Vivian[/name_u]'s spot on my name list.

I feel like [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] and [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] are way too rhymie, but the feel of the names are very different. [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] is more sweet while [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] feels vivacious to me. I do have plenty other names on the list that I love, and I could find another name to take [name_u]Vivian[/name_u]'s spot after some searching. I’m just wondering if you think [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] and [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] are just waaaay too much, or if you think that it’s workable.

Mostly right now it’s a wait and see game, [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] may be a name that won’t even get to be used, though I would like to have other peoples’ opinions on the [name_u]Vivian[/name_u]/[name_f]Lillian[/name_f] name front.

My grandmother’s name was [name_u]Vivian[/name_u], and she had a sister named [name_f]Lillian[/name_f]… I do think they’re a little rhymey for sisters, but for cousins, it’s definitely no big deal

I think they would be fine. They both start with different sounds (viv and lil) so it wouldn’t be confusing, and they’re lovely names too. I have a nephew [name_u]Noah[/name_u] and if I have a son in the future he will be [name_m]Elijah[/name_m], so the ending is identical - same for [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] and [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] - but I don’t see a problem with it!

Honestly, I wouldn’t worry about cousins having similar names. I know cousins named [name_m]Jack[/name_m] and [name_m]Jackson[/name_m] (although they live pretty far away so they don’t spend much time together.) Especially given the nickname possibilities for [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] and [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] are different ([name_f]Viv[/name_f] and [name_f]Lily[/name_f] are the two that jump to mind) I think it wouldn’t be an issue. Plus, if it’s not set in stone you or your sister might change your minds. Keep it on your list!

I really wouldn’t worry about cousins. I’m assuming your sister plans on calling [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] “[name_f]Lily[/name_f]” for short? I have [name_u]Vivian[/name_u]/[name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] on my list. Is [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] an option? I plan on calling a [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] “[name_f]Vivi[/name_f]” or “[name_f]Viv[/name_f]” which, obviously, sounds nothing like [name_f]Lily[/name_f] or [name_f]Lillian[/name_f]. If your sister does have a little girl and names her [name_f]Lillian[/name_f], I would definitely just see how you feel about it then.

I posed a somewhat similar question about [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] and [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] as cousins. As long as the nicknames aren’t similar (i.e. “[name_u]Mattie[/name_u]” and “[name_f]Maddie[/name_f]”) then it’s usually fine for cousins.

My cousin [name_f]Cora[/name_f] has a cousin unrelated to me named [name_f]Nora[/name_f]. They’re only a couple months apart and no one gets them confused. I don’t think [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] and [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] are too close.

[name_f]Glad[/name_f] to hear the opinions. My sister said if they use [name_f]Lillian[/name_f], they would call her [name_f]Lily[/name_f] for short. With me and the name [name_u]Vivian[/name_u], I think I would mostly use [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] to it’s full glory and only use [name_f]Vivi[/name_f] every once and a while. I’m feeling better about the name [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] on my list, thanks and keep your opinions coming.

I don’t think it matters. Besides, if they grew up to dislike the rhyminess of their names then they could always go by [name_f]Lillie[/name_f] and [name_f]Viv[/name_f]. I don’t know if you like those nns but I think they sound adorable together.:stuck_out_tongue: I also like @birchwood29 's suggestion of [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f].
You’re right about their distinctly different feel and it would be hard to mistake them for each other. I love both names.

for cousins I don’t think it’s too rhymey, I actually really like how the names sound together. Plus how cute are the nicknames “[name_f]Vivi[/name_f]” and “[name_f]Lily[/name_f]” gonna be  or [name_f]Lil[/name_f] and [name_f]Viv[/name_f]. It just comes down to your preference, I say go with it and don’t over think it

It would be fine. It’s not as if it’s, like, [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] and [name_f]Lila[/name_f].

I wouldn’t recommend it for siblings, but for cousins it doesn’t matter. I’m [name_f]Kathryn[/name_f] and I have a cousin named [name_f]Kathleen[/name_f]. It’s never been an issue.
