Watson for a girl

What are your thoughts on [name_m]Watson[/name_m] as a girl’s name? Surname names for girls like [name_u]Madison[/name_u] or [name_u]Sutton[/name_u] or [name_u]Paxton[/name_u] seem to be popular. Could we do the same with family name [name_m]Watson[/name_m]? (Note… Not pregnant now but just thinking about number 2 already!)

I think it could work as a middle name. I’m not a fan of it for a first name, as it’s very masculine, and prefer more feminine or typically unisex names. From your signature, how about [name_f]Elara[/name_f] [name_m]Watson[/name_m], [name_u]Artemis[/name_u] [name_m]Watson[/name_m], [name_f]Calliope[/name_f] [name_m]Watson[/name_m]?

If it’s your family name, then I would say it’s okay. She’ll probably hate it at least for a time and have to deal with a lot of confusion, but if it’s a meaningful part of your family, I think it’s an understandable choice.

If it has no relation to you or your family, and you just think it sounds cool, I think it’s not such a good idea. It’s a lot easier to deal with people questioning the name if you can just respond with, “I know, but it’s a family name.” I think that grounds it a bit.

I mean, it could work, however, a lot of the surnames that are currently popular for girls share elements with other popular girls names, or due to celebrity elements (Ie; [name_u]Harper[/name_u] is likely popular as another alternative to [name_f]Hailey[/name_f]/[name_u]Haley[/name_u] and [name_f]Hannah[/name_f], [name_u]Addison[/name_u] for [name_u]Madison[/name_u], [name_u]Landry[/name_u] and [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u] share the popular -ee ending with standard girls names like [name_f]Sadie[/name_f], [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] and [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], [name_u]Kennedy[/name_u] and [name_u]MacKenzie[/name_u] were products of the 1990s and bore similarity to [name_u]Kelly[/name_u] and [name_u]Kimberly[/name_u], etc etc etc.).

[name_m]Watson[/name_m] however doesn’t share any real trait with other popular girls names other than the fact that it’s a surname and ends similarly to [name_u]Addison[/name_u]. So as I said, it could work, but I do think it’d be much harder to wear.

It would be a good middle name, but I don’t like it as a first name for a girl. I’m also not a fan of [name_u]Sutton[/name_u] or [name_u]Paxton[/name_u] for a girl.
I suggest [name_u]Harper[/name_u], [name_u]Carter[/name_u], [name_f]Anniston[/name_f], [name_u]Parker[/name_u], [name_u]Blake[/name_u], [name_u]Bellamy[/name_u], [name_u]Robin[/name_u], [name_u]Tatum[/name_u], [name_u]Arden[/name_u], [name_u]Bailey[/name_u], [name_u]Murphy[/name_u], [name_u]Avery[/name_u], [name_u]Ellis[/name_u], [name_u]Addison[/name_u], [name_u]Peyton[/name_u], [name_u]Taylor[/name_u], [name_u]Cameron[/name_u], [name_u]Marley[/name_u], [name_u]Holland[/name_u] and [name_f]Winslet[/name_f]

I think it’s a bit too masculine, sorry.

Not a fan.
I wouldn’t like being called [name_m]Watson[/name_m]. She’d get mistaken for a man all the time, and there aren’t any feminine nicknames to balance it out. I agree with the poster who said she’d most likely dislike her name. I could see a female [name_m]Watson[/name_m] ending up going by her middle name in school/work.
