So my friend is in love with the nickiname savvy or savy or savi or however she wants to spell it. But she needs a name to get her that nickname. I’ve racked my brain trying to get there for her, but I’m stumped. Help. She prefers an unusual name, one that isn’t common or old-time-y. I know y’all can do it!
Savara? I don’t know if it’s an actual name. But neither is Safari as far as I know so she may be able to get past that? It’s kinda like [name]Samara[/name]
SAVITRI
GENDER: Feminine
USAGE: [name]Indian[/name], Hinduism
OTHER SCRIPTS: सावित”री (Hindi, Sanskrit)
Meaning & [name]History[/name]
Means “relating to the sun” in Sanskrit. This is the name of a hymn dedicated to Savitr, a Hindu sun god, and it is also the name of his daughter. It is borne by several other characters in Hindu epics, including a wife of Brahma, a wife of [name]Shiva[/name], and a daughter of Daksha. In the Hindu epic the ‘Mahabharata’ it is borne by [name]King[/name] Satyavan’s wife, who successfully pleas with Yama, the god of death, to restore her husband to life.
I’d never heard of Savitri before, but I think the sound is pretty and interesting, it goes well with Safari, and the meaning is awesome.
[name]How[/name] about just Savvy? If she has a daughter named Safari I doubt Savvy would raise any eyebrows. Safari and [name]Savannah[/name] I would NOT do as sisters.
I was also going to chime in with Savitri but @nono beat me to it! I knew a lovely woman with this name which has always stuck in my mind. She pronounced it with the emphasis on the first syllable: SAH-vih-tree. It would go OK with Safari since the stress is on different syllables.
But of course [name]Savannah[/name] would be a much more mainstream way, and it makes perfect sense. But [name]Savannah[/name] & Safari? Please no. No.
I personally would not use Savvy as a name unto itself. It feels too lightweight and frivolous for a life-long moniker. What I don’t understand is how her daughter Safari hasn’t already inherited the nickname Savvy?
I personally think there are many, many other names that would “sound good” with Safari. Names don’t need to rhyme or use the same letters in order to sound good together in my strong opinion. I just think they need the same vibe and level of formality to “go” together. For example, Safari and [name]Francesca[/name] don’t go together at all, but Safari and [name]Solange[/name] do go together.
I think that the other berries have come up with great “Savvy” long-forms - the closest and most logical seeming to be [name]Savannah[/name]. However, I also agree that Safari and [name]Savannah[/name] don’t “go” well as sisters. [name]One[/name] is very “out there” and the other is fairly common. Maybe use [name]Savannah[/name] as a middle name and still use nn Savvy? And then have a first name that fits her style and her first daughter’s name.
A few first name suggestions:
[name]Meadow[/name]
[name]Evening[/name]
[name]Journey[/name] - I thought of this one immediately, but I see moxielove beat me to it!
[name]Raine[/name]
[name]Saffron[/name]
[name]Tansy[/name]
[name]Ocean[/name]
[name]Marisol[/name]
[name]Cayenne[/name]
[name]Azalea[/name]
[name]Aspen[/name]
[name]Indigo[/name]
Why doesn’t she just use Safi as a nickname for Safari? It sounds almost identical to Savvy! I like the suggestion of [name]Indigo[/name] for a sister… Safi and [name]Indi[/name] would be cute
