[name_f]My[/name_f] grandfather’s name was [name_u]Neil[/name_u] (no middle name), and I would like to honor him somehow. The only problem is, two of my cousins have already used [name_u]Neil[/name_u] for their children. I don’t want it to seem like I am copying them, and I don’t want it to be confusing at family gatherings. Any suggestions?

Of the suggestions from [name_u]Neil[/name_u]'s NB page, I like [name_u]Neal[/name_u], [name_m]Neils[/name_m], [name_m]Nels[/name_m], [name_m]Nigel[/name_m], [name_m]Niles[/name_m], and [name_m]Nils[/name_m]. I know a guy in his 30s named [name_m]Neils[/name_m].

I grew up with a girl named [name_f]Nelia[/name_f] (pronounced [name_u]Neil[/name_u]-ya). [name_m]Just[/name_m] throwing out a suggestion for a girl =)

If you don’t mind swapping letters [name_u]Neil[/name_u]/[name_m]Niel[/name_m] would be an unexpected and interesting nickname for [name_m]Daniel[/name_m] or [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m].
[name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] (or [name_m]Nathanael[/name_m]) is a great suggestion! I also like [name_m]Nigel[/name_m]. It sounds debonair and sophisticated to me. Or, find out where your grandfather was born. Perhaps that could strike a more interesting spark of name-honoring?

I like the suggestions of [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] and [name_m]Cornelius[/name_m]. Maybe you could find another way to honor your grandfather- place names, etc.?
