Ways to honor "Louis"

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] berries,
I’m looking for some new ideas for boy or girl to help me honor my grandfather [name_m]Louis[/name_m], pronounced “[name_m]Louie[/name_m]” I could also use his Hebrew name, “[name_m]Eleazer[/name_m]” as inspiration
My daughter is [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] nn [name_f]Tilly[/name_f], so I would like a good sibset. A great nickname would be icing on the cake!

Some ideas:
Middle name could be [name_u]Lou[/name_u], [name_f]Louise[/name_f], or [name_f]Louisa[/name_f],
[name_f]Eloise[/name_f] And [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] seem to fit the bill, but I already have a lot of [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]'s in my life. Problem?
Hubby and I both like [name_f]Amelie[/name_f], [name_f]Maple[/name_f], [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f], [name_f]Marigold[/name_f]
I like [name_f]Ramona[/name_f] and [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] but he doesn’t
I’m not too inspired by boys names
Would love to hear thoughts and ideas from others!

[name_f]Mathilda[/name_f] [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] &:

Honoring [name_m]Louis[/name_m]: [name_f]Lois[/name_f], [name_f]Luanna[/name_f], [name_f]Louanne[/name_f]/[name_f]Luanne[/name_f], [name_f]Louisette[/name_f], [name_f]Lula[/name_f], [name_f]Lulu[/name_f], [name_f]Luella[/name_f], Luelle, [name_f]Luna[/name_f]

I like [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] and [name_f]Amelie[/name_f].
He doesn’t like [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f], but what about. [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]?

I think [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] goes wonderfully with [name_f]Matilda[/name_f].

I think [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] and [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] make a great pair.

Other ideas:
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f]/[name_f]Lucia[/name_f]
[name_f]Luella[/name_f]
[name_f]Lux[/name_f]
[name_f]Lula[/name_f]
[name_f]Aloisia[/name_f] *one I find particularly interesting!

[name_f]Elaine[/name_f]/[name_f]Elaina[/name_f]
[name_f]Elanor[/name_f]
[name_f]Electra[/name_f]
[name_f]Eliana[/name_f]
[name_f]Elina[/name_f]
[name_f]Elowen[/name_f] ‘[name_f]Winnie[/name_f]’
[name_f]Elspeth[/name_f] ‘[name_f]Elsie[/name_f]’

And other names in general I think might suit your style and go with [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] [name_u]Quinn[/name_u]:
[name_f]Maeve[/name_f]
[name_f]Philippa[/name_f] ‘[name_m]Pip[/name_m]’
[name_f]Isadora[/name_f] ‘[name_u]Izzy[/name_u]’
[name_f]Georgia[/name_f]/[name_f]Georgina[/name_f] ‘[name_u]Georgie[/name_u]’
[name_f]Ivy[/name_f]
[name_f]Augusta[/name_f] ‘[name_f]Aggie[/name_f]’
[name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] ‘Ceci/[name_f]Celia[/name_f]’
[name_f]Adele[/name_f]
[name_f]Alice[/name_f]
[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] ‘[name_f]Cora[/name_f]/[name_f]Delia[/name_f]’
[name_f]Flora[/name_f]
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] ‘[name_f]Emme[/name_f]’
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f] ‘[name_u]Penny[/name_u]’
[name_f]Ginevra[/name_f] ‘[name_f]Ginny[/name_f]’
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] ‘[name_f]Addy[/name_f]’

Thanks! [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] [name_f]Louise[/name_f] is a definite continder. I’m not feeling [name_u]Lou[/name_u] names in the first spot. [name_f]Louisette[/name_f] and [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] are interesting.

I would second the suggestion of [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] [name_f]Louisa[/name_f]/[name_f]Louise[/name_f] (perhaps nicknamed [name_f]Lilou[/name_f])? [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] goes beautifully with [name_f]Matilda[/name_f].

Thought I’d try to think outside the box with this one since there are about a bajillion ‘[name_u]Lou[/name_u]’ names you could use as well as a gajillion “[name_f]El[/name_f]” names. I wasn’t sure how opaque you wanted the reference to the namesake to be so if you wanted people to make an immediate connection these might not fit the bill.

Meanings: [name_m]Eleazer[/name_m] comes from the Hebrew [name_f]El[/name_f]'azar which means “my God has helped” or “God is my helper”. [name_m]Louis[/name_m] means “renowned warrior” or “famous war/battle”.

[name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f] (though if your husband doesn’t like [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] this is probably a veto, and combine that with the [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] association…) means female warrior
[name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] means help
[name_u]Alexis[/name_u] means helper
[name_f]Clotilde[/name_f] [prn: klo-TEELD] means famous battle might be too close to [name_f]Matilda[/name_f]
[name_f]Freya[/name_f] was the goddess of love, beauty, war and death
[name_f]Isolde[/name_f], origins unknown but might mean ice battle
[name_f]Rowena[/name_f] [prn: ro-EE-na] means fame, joy, bliss.

A stretch:
[name_m]Lazarus[/name_m] (A greek form of [name_m]Eleazar[/name_m]) was the brother of [name_f]Mary[/name_f] of [name_f]Bethany[/name_f] and [name_f]Martha[/name_f]. [name_f]Mary[/name_f] comes from the name [name_f]Miriam[/name_f].

[name_m]Louis[/name_m] comes from the name [name_m]Ludwig[/name_m]. Names that share etymological roots with [name_m]Louis[/name_m] include:
[name_f]Aloisia[/name_f]
Clovia

Unrelated but similar:
[name_f]Lois[/name_f] [prn: LO-is]

Using only the letters found in [name_m]Louis[/name_m] [name_m]Eleazer[/name_m] you could build these names:

[name_f]Aurelie[/name_f]
[name_f]Alise[/name_f]
[name_f]Arielle[/name_f]
[name_f]Elora[/name_f]
[name_f]Laoise[/name_f] [Irish, prn: [name_u]LEE[/name_u]-sha] (Also sometimes used as the Irish for [name_f]Louise[/name_f])
[name_f]Laurel[/name_f]
[name_f]Liesel[/name_f]
[name_f]Lorelai[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]

Edited to add: Leah could work too from eLEAzer.

What about [name_f]Heloise[/name_f]? Unusual but you could use maybe nn Hilly or Hezzy

[name_f]Heloise[/name_f] [name_f]Maple[/name_f]

Another unusual one, but maybe Lais or Laisa? Reminds me a lot of the sound of [name_m]Eleazer[/name_m], but with a [name_m]French[/name_m] twist.
Lais [name_f]Marigold[/name_f]
Laisa [name_f]Marigold[/name_f]

I think [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] [name_f]Louise[/name_f] is beautiful! The nicknames are endless. [name_f]Jen[/name_f], [name_f]Jenna[/name_f], [name_f]Jenny[/name_f], [name_f]Eve[/name_f], [name_f]Evie[/name_f], take your pick! [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] and [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] work as a sibset really well too! Another girl name that I thought of when I saw [name_m]Louis[/name_m] was [name_f]Leonie[/name_f]. Nickname could be [name_f]Leah[/name_f] or even [name_m]Leo[/name_m].

For a boy you could go with [name_m]Lewis[/name_m] or even the actual name of [name_m]Louis[/name_m], however I’d spell it [name_m]Louie[/name_m] if you want to avoid the annoyance of correcting spelling and pronunciation. Using you grandfathers Hebrew name [name_m]Ezra[/name_m] would also work well. [name_u]Lee[/name_u], [name_m]Leo[/name_m], [name_m]Leon[/name_m], and [name_m]Levi[/name_m], although a little more of a stretch, all work too. [name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps and good luck!
