[name]How[/name] would you honour a favourite artist? If you felt as though their first, middle or last names are not an option, how could you still honour them and the connection you have to them?
Are we talking musical artist or painter/photographer/sculptor artist?
Any really, but specifically musical artist?
Who are we talking about? If it were a singer or something, I might look through the lyrics of their songs to see if I could find something that could be used for a name.
I am actually thinking of famous country artists as I am a huge fan of work by [name]Alan[/name] [name]Jackson[/name], [name]Shania[/name] [name]Twain[/name], The [name]Dixie[/name] Chicks etc.
Ok, so for a singer… lets see, I really like Loreena Mckennitt… She has a Celtic background, so I could honor her with a Celtic name. I can use her initials, or I can look at her songs and pick something that way. For example she sings The [name]Bonni[/name] Swans, and [name]Bonni[/name] Portmore, so [name]Bonnie[/name] could be a fun way to honor her.
[name]Say[/name] I love [name]Mandy[/name] [name]Moore[/name]… she has done some acting, I could use one of the characters names… like [name]Lana[/name] or [name]Jaime[/name].
You use other forms of the names as well. Loreena could be [name]Laura[/name], or [name]Lauren[/name], McKennitt maybe [name]Mckayla[/name]… [name]Mandy[/name] could be [name]Amanda[/name], [name]Moore[/name] could be [name]Moira[/name].
You can also see if your singer has children of their own and name after their child. Imitation they say, is the sincerest form of flattery.
Lol would have been easier if i’d seen your other post first. haha
I think I would use their middle name or variation of their first name. For example, I like No Doubt. Let’s see… [name]Gwen[/name] [name]Stefani[/name] could be [name]Gwendolyn[/name], [name]Gwyneth[/name], [name]Genevieve[/name]…[name]Winifred[/name], [name]Wendy[/name]. Or [name]Stephanie[/name], [name]Stephania[/name].
You can easily use the titles of the songs - almost every group has a song with names. Or use your favourite male singer’s name feminization. [name]Blake[/name] - [name]Blakely[/name], [name]Ryan[/name] - [name]Raina[/name], [name]Paul[/name] - [name]Paulina[/name], [name]Alan[/name] - [name]Alaina[/name].
If you don’t want to use their names, songs and maybe their alter-ego’s/movie character names are good idea [name]IMO[/name].
I would go with instruments, where they’re from, the name of an album/song, etc
Some of my favorites:
Fender- a lot of guitarists play Fender Stratocasters
[name]Gibson[/name]- another guitar
[name]Lucille[/name]- BB [name]King[/name]'s guitar
[name]Haze[/name]- [name]Jimi[/name] [name]Hendrix[/name]'s Purple [name]Haze[/name] album
[name]Blaise[/name]- [name]Bob[/name] [name]Marley[/name]‘s Catch A [name]Fire[/name] album
[name]Kingston[/name]- [name]Bob[/name] [name]Marley[/name], again
Shiah- [name]Cat[/name] Coore’s son
[name]Zephyr[/name]- [name]Red[/name] Hot [name]Chili[/name] Peppers’ The [name]Zephyr[/name] Song
[name]Hollis[/name]- hometown of RunDMC
For country music
[name]Beale[/name]
[name]Memphis[/name]
[name]Georgia[/name]- [name]Ray[/name] [name]Charles[/name]
[name]Blue[/name]- can represent a ton of things/people. I think of [name]Patsy[/name] Cline or [name]Blue[/name] [name]Suede[/name] Shoes
Ryman
[name]Sasha[/name]- [name]Beyonce[/name]'s alter ego
[name]Gwen[/name]- [name]Gwen[/name] [name]Stefani[/name]
[name]Cher[/name]- After the old singer [name]Cher[/name] from the 90’s or the young new singer [name]Cher[/name] [name]Lloyd[/name]
[name]Miranda[/name]- After [name]Miranda[/name] [name]Lambert[/name]
[name]Emma[/name]- after [name]Emma[/name] [name]Watson[/name]. She doesn’t sing, but she’s a great actress
[name]Helena[/name]- After [name]Helena[/name] Bonham [name]Carter[/name] (again doesn’t sing)
[name]Taylor[/name]- [name]Taylor[/name] Swift
[name]Red[/name]- [name]Taylor[/name] Swift’s [name]Red[/name] Album
[name]Jacklynn[/name]- feminism of [name]Alan[/name] [name]Jackson[/name]'s last name
[name]Paisley[/name]- [name]Brad[/name] [name]Paisley[/name]'s last name
[name]Ana[/name]- short for Antebellum (lady Antebellum)
[name]Perry[/name]- The Band [name]Perry[/name]
You could always go with something song related if you don’t want to use the name.
For example, in the case of [name]Taylor[/name] Swift…
[name]Abigail[/name] (her best friend she sings about in Fifteen) [name]Drew[/name], [name]Stephen[/name], [name]John[/name] (Boys mentioned in her songs)
Two of my favorite bands are La oreja de [name]Van[/name] Gogh and La [name]Quinta[/name] estación. The girls in the bands are named [name]Leire[/name], [name]Amaia[/name], and [name]Natalia[/name]. Would use any of those names.
I love this post! [name]Music[/name] is important to the fiance and I, so pretty much every name we’ve picked has some ties to our mutual favorite bands.
Some of my names are simply taken right from the names of the artists: [name]Alexander[/name], [name]Jack[/name], [name]Evan[/name], [name]Danny[/name], [name]Vincent[/name] (All Time Low and ATL crew), [name]Mark[/name] and [name]Thomas[/name] (Blink 182), [name]Patrick[/name] (Fall Out Boy)- The majority of these names are family names as well, so it kills two birds with one stone!
Then there’s of course naming after song titles/names in songs: All Time Low’s [name]Stella[/name], [name]Holly[/name], Somewhere in Neverland, and [name]Noel[/name] = [name]Stella[/name], [name]Holly[/name], [name]Wendy[/name], and [name]Noelle[/name]. Or Blink 182’s [name]Adam[/name]'s Song = [name]Adam[/name].
My personal favorite is [name]Ava[/name], which is the acronym for Angels and Airwaves (a band super important to our relationship). In addition, with a surname starting with “L”, fiance and I have considered [name]Alexander[/name] [name]Thomas[/name] for a first born . . .
In short, music is very VERY important to us so we’re quite okay with being very literal with out music connection names. If someone asked me how future son [name]Mark[/name] [name]Thomas[/name] got his name, I would proudly tell them Blink 182 (and maybe throw in it’s also my fiance’s dad’s name). There are millions of ways to make an awesome connection. I think the ways I’ve listed are most obvious and make the most literal connection, but I’m sure there’s even more literal ways out there.
Hm…to honor a musical artist…
I think I’d use [name]Rigby[/name] as a middle name for a boy or a girl from the Beatles song [name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Rigby[/name]
For a singer, I would use a song title. For example,
[name]Ella[/name] [name]Fitzgerald[/name] - [name]Lorelei[/name]
Rolling Stones - [name]Ruby[/name]
Plain White T’s - [name]Delilah[/name]
[name]Elton[/name] [name]John[/name] - [name]Alice[/name]
[name]Bob[/name] [name]Dylan[/name] - [name]Angelina[/name]
The Beatles or Counting Crows - [name]Anna[/name]
[name]Even[/name] an album name or something along those lines.
My favourite music is pretty different than yours, but I have thought about it before. For me if I were to honour an artist (it doesn’t matter if it’s a musician, painter, writer etc) it has to be someone I’ve adored for a long time. My daughter’s middle name [name]Beatrice[/name] for example is for [name]Dante[/name] [name]Gabriel[/name] Rossetti’s painting [name]Beata[/name] [name]Beatrix[/name] (it’s of [name]Beatrice[/name] Portinari) and [name]Dante[/name]'s Inferno and the Cocteau Twins song [name]Beatrix[/name].
Anyway, musicians! For me it would be the songs, I don’t like the idea of naming after a person, because they can disappoint you gravely, a song you’ve loved forever can’t!
Cocteau Twins: [name]Phoebe[/name], [name]Ella[/name], [name]Violaine[/name], [name]Lorelei[/name], [name]Persephone[/name], [name]Pandora[/name], [name]Amelia[/name], [name]Cicely[/name], [name]Alice[/name]
[name]Tori[/name] [name]Amos[/name]: [name]Ophelia[/name], [name]Daisy[/name], [name]Martha[/name], [name]Marianne[/name], [name]Talula[/name], [name]Pandora[/name], Persphone, [name]January[/name], [name]Anabelle[/name], [name]Holly[/name], [name]Ivy[/name], [name]Rose[/name], [name]Isabella[/name], [name]Scarlet[/name], [name]Ruby[/name], [name]Mimosa[/name], [name]Melusine[/name], [name]Chloe[/name], [name]Winter[/name], [name]Lily[/name], [name]Virginia[/name], [name]Josephine[/name], [name]Amber[/name], [name]Joy[/name], [name]Anastasia[/name], [name]Santa[/name], [name]Lucy[/name]… and [name]Natashya[/name] for her daughter.
