[name_m]Hi[/name_m] Berries,
I’ve been having fun recently coming up with girls’ combos which all honour a family member in the middle. I’ve used variations of all the names, which is what I did with my dd’s name- her middle name is [name_f]Elise[/name_f] to honour my grandmother [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]. But I’ve been struggling to find a way of using my mother’s name which is [name_f]Jane[/name_f]- any ideas? What is your favourite [name_f]Jane[/name_f] variant? Thanks!
[name_f]Gia[/name_f], [name_f]Gianna[/name_f], [name_f]Giana[/name_f], [name_f]Giovanna[/name_f], [name_f]Janet[/name_f], [name_f]Janae[/name_f], [name_f]Jana[/name_f], [name_f]Janice[/name_f], [name_f]Jenica[/name_f], [name_f]Joanna[/name_f], [name_f]Johanna/name_f, [name_f]Ohanna[/name_f], [name_f]Sian[/name_f], [name_f]Sinead[/name_f], [name_f]Siobhan[/name_f]? For a boy, you could use any variant of [name_m]John[/name_m], which is the same meaning as [name_f]Jane[/name_f].
What first name are you thinking so far? I think my favorites are [name_f]Johanna[/name_f] first (or [name_f]Johannah[/name_f]), and then maybe [name_f]Joanna[/name_f], [name_f]Giana[/name_f], or [name_f]Gia[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Celeste[/name_f] [name_f]Maybelle[/name_f] is so darling with [name_u]Juniper[/name_u] [name_f]Elise[/name_f] off of your list.
PS What will [name_u]Arlo[/name_u]'s middle name be? I just adore [name_u]Juniper[/name_u] [name_f]Elise[/name_f]! Congrats and best of luck with the new baby!
I actually think [name_f]Jane[/name_f] itself is my favorite, but there are so many variants I can’t be sure. I found one just the other day; [name_f]Zana[/name_f], which I really like {speaking of which, [name_m]Zane[/name_m] could be used on the boy’s side}. There are also [name_u]Jean[/name_u], [name_u]Joan[/name_u], and [name_f]Jeanette[/name_f].

This is the list from “[name_f]Jane[/name_f]'s International Variations” which I found on this site. [name_f]My[/name_f] favorites from the list are [name_f]Gianna[/name_f] and [name_f]Jana[/name_f]. I also found:
Chavon
Ciana
Jalena
[name_f]Janae[/name_f]
[name_f]Janelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Janessa[/name_f]
[name_f]Janet[/name_f]
[name_f]Janica[/name_f]

Janiqua

[name_f]Seana[/name_f]
[name_f]Shana[/name_f]
[name_f]Zhane[/name_f]
[name_f]Jane[/name_f] is definitely my favourite! It’s on my list and I think it’s so lovely
I love [name_f]Jane[/name_f] tagged on to make a double-barrel name. Something like…
[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]-[name_f]Jane[/name_f]
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f]-[name_f]Jane[/name_f]
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f]-[name_f]Jane[/name_f]
[name_f]Sylvie[/name_f]-[name_f]Jane[/name_f]
[name_f]Annabel[/name_f]-[name_f]Jane[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]-[name_f]Jane[/name_f]
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f]-[name_f]Jane[/name_f]
I don’t know, maybe that’s more upfront than you where after I just think they look so classically pretty.
Oh, gosh, yes! I love [name_f]Zana[/name_f] and [name_f]Zanna[/name_f]. In addition to being [name_f]Jane[/name_f] variants, they’re also [name_f]Susanna[/name_f] diminutives, and I think I saw [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] in one of your combinations - you could honor both in one name. I think something like [name_f]Margo[/name_f] [name_f]Zanna[/name_f] would be way cool with [name_u]Juniper[/name_u] [name_f]Elise[/name_f]. But not if you have [name_u]Arlo[/name_u], too, so something like [name_u]Larkin[/name_u] [name_f]Zanna[/name_f] or even [name_f]Cricket[/name_f] [name_f]Zanna[/name_f]! Oh, no, got it. [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] [name_f]Zanna[/name_f]. I might steal that.
I love the name [name_f]Jane[/name_f]!
Classic and lovely.
[name_f]Jane[/name_f] on her own is perfection!
I like just [name_f]Jane[/name_f]. [name_f]Jane[/name_f] is my middle name, and it’s so classy and cool, I adore it! It feels so timeless and lovely. Sometimes I’ve thought what it would be like if [name_f]Jane[/name_f] were my FN. It’s such a lovely name.
If you are a huge Sci-Fi/Whedon fan I’d suggest [name_u]Arlo[/name_u] [name_f]Jayne[/name_f]!
I think it sweet that you want to honor your mother with a name sake.
Have you considered the [name_m]John[/name_m] variants as a way to do so on a boy? [name_m]Even[/name_m] [name_u]Gene[/name_u] could work!
I know it’s perhaps not the most original ideas, but I actually really like the spelling Jeyne. That way it would also avoid confusion when writing down the names, as they would have different spellings.
If you were looking for a similar name, then perhaps [name_f]Janie[/name_f] (quite sweet). Or maybe [name_f]Jenna[/name_f]? Still quite similar to [name_f]Jane[/name_f].
Or, it you wanted a more obscure connection, how about [name_f]Aya[/name_f]? Because you’ve got the jAYne sound in [name_f]Jane[/name_f], and [name_f]Aya[/name_f] starts with the same sound.
And if you wanted something really obscure, [name_f]Jane[/name_f] is quite a popular name in fiction and history. Perhaps you could find a name that you, or perhaps you and your mother both love? (just as an example, [name_f]Eyre[/name_f], from [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Eyre[/name_f])
Good luck!
[name_f]Jane[/name_f] all by itself is my favorite. Chic and girlie. With the nn [name_f]Janie[/name_f]!
[name_f]Jane[/name_f] is just okay for me. I’m not wowed by it. I do really like [name_f]Janelle[/name_f], though.
Thanks much for all the thoughtful feedback! There are so many different and lovely variants to mull over, but I do like the simplicity of [name_f]Jane[/name_f]. I’m still thinking about it but I’ve thrown it into my hypothetical sibset as a middle for [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f]- I like the way they off-set each other. I love [name_f]Zanna[/name_f] and if i ever used [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] as a first, I think that would be my prefered nickname, but I love [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] way too much to get rid of her all together!
@[name_m]Lemon[/name_m]- thanks so much for your comments on [name_f]Juni[/name_f]'s name- I love it! [name_u]Arlo[/name_u] will have two family middles, partly for flow and partly because we couldn’t decide between them
@Oliviasarah- I love the idea of double-barrelled names using [name_f]Jane[/name_f] but I can’t seem to make it work. I think i’ll ponder that some more!
Thanks again everyone, its so nice of you all to take the time!
[name_f]Jane[/name_f] is so classic!! It could easily be a middle name for [name_f]Elsie[/name_f]. [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f].
[name_f]Janelle[/name_f] or [name_f]Janella[/name_f] is my favorite variation of [name_f]Jane[/name_f]. It still has [name_f]Jane[/name_f] in the spelling, but has a completely different sound.
Other variants that still are noticeably [name_f]Jane[/name_f] are:
[name_f]Jayne[/name_f]
[name_f]Jaine[/name_f]
[name_f]Janessa[/name_f]
Jiana
