[name]Just[/name] getting a feel for this name… We have #1 due soon, gender unknown, whom we are 90% sure will be [name]Hugh[/name] [name]William[/name] if a boy. Would like to have another alternative or something as an option if we ever ended up with 2 boys.
Maybe [name]Edmund[/name] [name]James[/name] or [name]Edmund[/name] [name]Peter[/name]. Middle names are family names.
Another option is [name]James[/name] [name]Edwin[/name] after DH’s grandfather. But [name]Edmund[/name] seems a little more uncommon. Perhaps too much so?
Would love to know what you think. Any other options that might work?
What nicknames come to mind for [name]Edmund[/name]?
Personally, I think [name]Hugh[/name] [name]William[/name] is great. I’m a big fan of traditional names, especially for boys. I like [name]Edmund[/name] [name]James[/name] and [name]Edmund[/name] [name]Peter[/name], too (no surprise there), but I prefer [name]Hugh[/name] [name]William[/name]. I don’t think [name]Edmund[/name] is too unusual. He’d still get the [name]Edward[/name] nicknames ([name]Ed[/name], [name]Eddie[/name], [name]Ted[/name], etc).
I totally [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Edmund[/name]. Your family-based middle options, [name]James[/name] and [name]Peter[/name], are both handsome names. However, much as I adore [name]Peter[/name], I think [name]Edmund[/name] [name]James[/name] has the best flow.
I love [name]Edmond[/name] Great Granddad was nicknamed [name]Ned[/name] and if I was going to honour him that would be the way I’d do it. His full name was [name]Edmond[/name] [name]Thomas[/name].
I do like [name]Edmund[/name] [name]James[/name] though!
I love your first choice. I would say I only like [name]Edmund[/name] as a middle. It just sounds so formal. [name]James[/name] [name]Edmund[/name] is pretty nice, but I’d wifi rely prefer [name]Hugh[/name]!
[name]Edmund[/name] is a lovely name and a refreshing change from [name]Edward[/name] while still being very traditional. Possibly my soft spot for it is tied to my willingness to trade family and friends for really good Turkish delight.
Nice choices. I’m often mediocre about a lot of traditional/timeless names that have been popular forever, as they sometimes feel a bit boring to me, but [name]Hugh[/name] and [name]Ed[/name]-related names are not boring at all. They both sound noble and energetic and I could easily imagine them as brothers. I think [name]Edmund[/name] is a good choice, as far as the [name]Ed[/name] names goes ([name]Eamon[/name] is the Irish version of [name]Edward[/name] I really like too, though it wouldn’t go as well with [name]Hugh[/name]), though [name]Edwin[/name], [name]Edward[/name], [name]Edgar[/name], etc are all nice too. Though [name]Edmund[/name] is less common than some of the other [name]Ed[/name] names, in all honestly, for me, this really wouldn’t matter too much, specifically in relation to [name]Ed[/name] related names, since all the names ‘feel’ like variations of the same name anyways.
[name]Ned[/name] is my favourite nickname for [name]Edmund[/name], followed by [name]Ted[/name].
My quandary I do not like [name]Edmund[/name] [name]Peter[/name], as it feels thematically [name]Lewis[/name] in nature, but I don’t like [name]James[/name] as its very overused as a middle.
[name]Hugh[/name] [name]William[/name] is a great combo - [name]Hugh[/name] is very underused.
I really love [name]Edmund[/name] but no combo is jumping out at me except [name]Edmund[/name] [name]Hugh[/name] (not a family name?) or [name]Edmund[/name] [name]William[/name] (not ideal flow).
I would have thought [name]Edmund[/name] and [name]Edwin[/name] were equivalent and matched in their uncommonness.
[name]Hugh[/name] [name]William[/name] is very handsome. [name]Edmund[/name] I’m not a fraction as fond of, but I don’t find it hideous. (I generally don’t like “-mund” names.)
Oh, I really like [name]Edmund[/name]! I don’t think it’s too uncommon. It’s a nice familiar classic that’s underused. I;m not a big fan of [name]Ed[/name] or [name]Eddie[/name] though so I’d go with [name]Ned[/name] or [name]Teddy[/name]. (I also love [name]Hugh[/name] [name]William[/name]!)
I used to have [name]Edward[/name] on my potentials list for boys, but quickly scratched it off after the Twilight craze began and replaced it with [name]Edmund[/name]. I’m glad that I did, because I like [name]Edmund[/name] much better and the name always reminds me of [name]Edmund[/name] Pevensie in the Chronicles of [name]Narnia[/name]. [name]Both[/name] of your MN choices are nice and classic, but I prefer [name]Edmund[/name] [name]James[/name] over [name]Edmund[/name] [name]Peter[/name].
I love love [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Edmund[/name]! It has been my favourite boy name since I was about 8 years old.
[name]Edmund[/name] [name]James[/name] is very handsome, [name]Edmund[/name] [name]Peter[/name] is fantastic (though the [name]Narnia[/name] connection is strong… but I say that as a [name]Lucy[/name] with a dream of having a son named [name]Edmund[/name], haha, so I think that’s fine).
I know a [name]James[/name] [name]Edwin[/name] who goes by [name]Jamie[/name]. I almost fell over when he told me that was his full name. So handsome!
I think you have winners across the board here I am definitely rooting for [name]Edmund[/name], though!
I love love love [name]Edmund[/name] (my favourite name of all name, already decided with my partner that it’ll be the name if we have a boy unless it really doesn’t suit him) but I slightly prefer [name]Hugh[/name] [name]William[/name] to [name]Edmund[/name] [name]James[/name]/[name]Edmund[/name] [name]Peter[/name]. As pps have said, [name]James[/name] is boring in the middle & [name]Peter[/name] is too [name]Narnia[/name]. I looove [name]Hugh[/name] as well, & [name]Hugh[/name] [name]William[/name] is an amazing combo. They’re all lovely choices, though; I’ve often imagined [name]Hugh[/name] and [name]Edmund[/name] as brothers!
I love [name]Edmund[/name] [name]Peter[/name], but it’s very [name]Narnia[/name], so for that reason I’d go for [name]Edmund[/name] [name]James[/name].
[name]Hugh[/name] [name]William[/name] is fabulous though.
If I met brothers named Hugh and Edmund, I’d be over the moon. Edmund is on my Top Ten list, and I’m liking Hugh more and more. Hugh William is handsome indeed. Edmund has two nice literary associations for me: Edmund Pevensie from “Narnia,” and Edmund Bertram from Jane Austen’s “Mansfield Park.” Since I like picking middles for my favorite names, I had to pick one for Edmund, and I chose Kay. I wouldn’t have the guts to use Kay as a boy’s first name, but I love the male Kay’s derivation from Gaius and Caius, meaning “rejoicing,” and I like the Arthurian association. Edmund Kay just sounds so gentlemanly yet dashing. (If you fall in love with it, feel free to use it. I’d be honored.)
If I had to nickname Edmund, it’d probably be Teddy while he was little, maybe graduating to Ted. saracita00’s suggestion of Mundy is cute, too. I would rather have people know he was Edmund, not Edward or Theodore, though those are also handsome names.
Wow, thanks for the feedback. Its nice to hear support for our first choice as well, as its easy to start to question it. [name]Even[/name] though we’ll definitely wait to meet our little bundle first - in about 3 weeks.
I think I prefer [name]Edmund[/name] over [name]Edwin[/name], even though its a family name. Another possible family option is [name]Arthur[/name], but we’re not as keen on it.
And yes, I think we’re fairly set on [name]Annabel[/name] if its a girl. DH picked it about 5 years ago and still loves it as much today.
