WDYT of Gatlin?

Head the name Gatlin for a little boy today. My first thought was “hmm” but now it is really growing on me.

Could you use it if you didn’t have a connection to Gatlinburg, TN?

What are you thoughts on this name? Potential nicknames or teasing issues?

It sounds like [name]Katlyn[/name] to me

[name]Ah[/name]! I was thinking that too. I wouldn’t want someone to pronounce it Gait-lin.

My first reaction was “isn’t that a type of gun?” but I looked it up and it’s actually gatling gun. Still too close for my liking.

First thought was Gatwick Airport.

Not a pleasant sound, anyway. [name]Do[/name] not like. :frowning:

This. I wouldn’t want my child’s name to be associated with a type of weapon forever, because it’s sooo close.

Thanks for the feedback! I hadn’t heard of Gatwick Airport or the gatling gun. The gun association is actually a positive in my husband’s eyes!

LOL - sorry, Gatwick is an airport in the UK. But I’ve just realised that what it really reminds me of, is Battlestar Galactica (which I’ve not even seen). I don’t understand the random associations my brain comes up with sometimes.

Me too! I was just about to google it

gun…

Sounds girly to me… [name]Do[/name] not like it at all … sorry :frowning:

I like it. It reminds me of [name]Gavin[/name]. It may be in the same category as [name]Gunner[/name], [name]Talon[/name], and [name]Colt[/name]. Not sure it comes with a nn though.

I actually thought it had a pleasant sound and it seemed to carry this Southern gentleman sort of vibe to it… but after hearing all the comments about gatling guns, I don’t think I would use it. It reminds me of the (sort of) similar Estlin, which is E. E. Cummings’ second “E”. I was always a huge fan of E. E. Cummings, anyway, so I prefer Estlin, anyway. If Gatlin didn’t have all its associations, I would like it, though, I think! It has a soft, gentlemanly air to me.

Good luck!

I like it. Reminds me of the Gatlin Brothers, a band I listened to growing up.

I immediately thought of the gun.

My initial reaction was to pronounce it rhyme with [name]Caitlin[/name].
