Wdyt of Hugh?

I like how it looks, I like its meaning, I like that it’s classic, yet not extremely popular… But there’s just something I’m not 100% convinced of yet. Not sure what it is… What are your thoughts on the name [name]Hugh[/name]?

Thanks.

I like [name]Hugh[/name] a lot! Before I joined Nameberry, I found it somewhat like [name]Scott[/name] and [name]Todd[/name]–a bit plan, a little dated, but still very handsome and I would have loved to meet someone with the name. I liked it much more than [name]Hugo[/name]. I still like [name]Hugh[/name] for all the same reasons, but I slightly prefer [name]Hugo[/name] now–it’s a bit more quirky, less middle-aged, imo.

It makes me think of the movie What’s Up [name]Doc[/name]? with the whole sequence: I am [name]Hugh[/name]. You are me? No, I am [name]Hugh[/name]! Stop saying that, make him stop saying that!

So yeah, not so usable for me.

I really like it.

Personally I’m not a fan of [name]Hugh[/name], but I know most people on here seem to like it. To me, the name is too breathy. I feel like it barely makes a sound. It doesn’t come out strongly and clearly. I would recommend another H name, like [name]Henry[/name], but in the end if you love [name]Hugh[/name], my opinions on it are no reason NOT to use it…it is, as you said, a classic. Who am I to judge a time-honored name?

I adore [name]Hugh[/name]. (Although I like [name]Hugo[/name] a tad more) I think it’s handsome, but some people do find it a little incomplete. It’s not so popular on this side of the ocean but I wish it were. It’s short and to the point but not too blunt.

I love and adore it. So handsome.

I like it for all the reasons you’ve mentioned, but for some reason it just doesn’t seem like enough. [name]Hugo[/name] would be my preference.

[name]Love[/name] [name]Hugh[/name]!

I also prefer [name]Hugo[/name] - I agree with an above poster that [name]Hugh[/name] seems kind of “breathy” or insubstantial. Like it doesn’t have enough consonants to give it structure. However, it seems to be a pretty classic name, and if you love it, you love it! : )
