WDYT of Jory as a First Name

I love the name [name]Jory[/name] - unusual, yet easy to pronounce and remember. Boyish, yet soft sounding. However, the potential issue for me is that I am naming my second son and my first son’s name is [name]Jules[/name]. Also our last name starts with the letter “J” as well. I know we would possibly be starting the J J pattern for the family (and we are thinking of having a third child) and I wanted to get other nameberries thoughts on this one!

1st son - [name]Jules[/name] J
2nd son (potential name) - [name]Jory[/name] J

What do you think?? All thoughts appreciated! Thanks.

I don’t really like [name]Jory[/name], especially with [name]Jules[/name]. I find [name]Jules[/name] and [name]Jory[/name] a bit too matchy.

Also, [name]Jory[/name] reminds me really strongly of [name]Cory[/name] so it manages to sound dated (70s-80s style) to my ears despite the fact that it wasn’t actually popular in the past.

[name]Jory[/name] is usually a nn for the unisex name of [name]Jordan[/name]. Personally, [name]Jory[/name] feels incomplete to me and is a bit too matchy with [name]Jules[/name]. If you’re thinking of having another child, I would try and break the “J” pattern. Naming a child can be challenging enough without limiting your choices to one letter.

I kind of like it! It’s unique, I have never met a [name]Jory[/name] before. I think it matches [name]Jules[/name] really well, has that same kind of style. It shows what kind of style his family has. I like names like that.

I don’t really like it. The only [name]Jory[/name] I know is a rather unpleasant girl who spells it as Jhori. Paired with [name]Jules[/name], I think its ok, those I’m not big on both being J names; it can really limit options for other siblings. I personally [name]Jordon[/name] matches [name]Jules[/name] better.

When I was in my late teens/early 20’s, I worked at a skateboard park for a few summers. There was a really nice kid (young teen) who used to be there everyday, and his name was [name]Jory[/name]. His older brother, who was a lot closer to my age, was [name]Derek[/name]. He was a really nice kid, and I the name makes me think of him. Although, I seem to have I hard time with the “-or” sound…[name]Jory[/name], [name]Rory[/name], etc, I find a bit hard to say.

I know it isn’t the same name, but I think of [name]Joran[/name] [name]Van[/name] der Sloot.

The only [name]Jory[/name] I know is a woman, but I always felt like it was masculine. I think [name]Jory[/name] would be adorable on a little boy! I also like the name with [name]Jules[/name]. Go for it.

I’ve met a girl named [name]Jory[/name] before but it was spelled [name]Jori[/name], I believe. I prefer it for a boy and it sounds great with [name]Jules[/name], double ‘J’ and all. If you love it, use it.

I know one [name]Jorie[/name], a girl. I think it’s a cool name, but just doesn’t match with the lovely, classic [name]Jules[/name]. As someone else said, it has a bit of a dated feel, but could definitely be used today in a more modern-sounding sibset. I think limiting yourself to Js is something you may regret if you have a third child. The two families I know who do have a letter theme did so because the parents’ names matched as well.

I knew a [name]Jori[/name], short for [name]Marjorie[/name].

Personally, I wouldn’t use this as a given name for a boy. I don’t see it aging all that well.

I like [name]Jory[/name]/[name]Jorie[/name]. I grew up with a [name]Jorie[/name], but her name was [name]Marjorie[/name] and it was a nickname. But I like it as a name itself or as a nickname for Jorah.

I’m not big on matching initials for siblings, but if I loved a name enough I’d do it once, but not 2x as then you have a theme you ‘need’ to follow to not leave one out.
