I am just curious what comes to mind when you hear the name [name]Marnie[/name]?
It is one of the many nicknames my baby has (her given name is [name]Maren[/name], prn [name]MAR[/name]-en, not [name]MARE[/name]-in). I really never expected or planned on her being called [name]Marnie[/name], but my 4 yo started using it one day and now I find myself using it, too. To be honest, it is a name I never cared for until now (something about a 4 yo saying it just makes it cute to me).
But now I am wondering how it would work for her if the nickname [name]Marnie[/name] really sticks. What are your honest opinions/thoughts on the name? Does it sound too dusty or dated? Too much like a dog/cat name? What are your first impressions?
Thanks!
Also, do you think Marnie is too much of a stretch as a nickname for Maren?
I love the name [name]Marnie[/name], I think its very fresh and spunky. I actually knew girls in highschool named [name]Marnie[/name] and one named [name]Maren[/name]. If you think it suits your daughter I would encourage you to keep using it!
I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Marnie[/name].
Singer [name]Lily[/name] [name]Allen[/name] just named her daughter [name]Marnie[/name] I believe, so could become popular but its very cute as a nn!!!
The lady that works at my insurance companyās local office is named [name]Marnie[/name]. She is really nice and friendly, so I have that positive association with the name. I actually really like it.
As a nn I think itās very cute and fun. It would sound well on an old woman as well as a little girl. And she has the option to use [name]Maren[/name] if she wants a more professional name. I like it a lot.
Iāve come around to it. A student that I used to work with couldnāt quite say my first name and twisted it into [name]Marnie[/name], which sweetened me to it. Itās still got strong [name]Hitchcock[/name] associations for me so that increases its coolness.
I had to google [name]Lily[/name] [name]Allen[/name] and while I still donāt know who she is, I like her DDs names ([name]Ethel[/name] and [name]Marnie[/name])ā¦I agree that it could spark an upswing in the name, but who knows. Hopefully it wouldnāt get too popular, but it would only be a nickname, so not a huge deal. But it does turn me off from using it a littleā¦I just hate riding any āceleb baby nameā wave, know what I mean?
[name]LOVE[/name] [name]Marnie[/name]. Like a pp said, the [name]Hitchcock[/name] association makes it uber cool for me, but also the fact that a Girls character is called [name]Marnie[/name] renders it more modern than it may have been before. Though Iāve never looked at [name]Marnie[/name] and seen old lady. [name]Ethel[/name], yes, but [name]Marnie[/name] is pretty spunky in my opinion.
I love it! And the show Girls & [name]Lily[/name] [name]Allen[/name] have knocked the dust off of it. I also think of fashion range [name]Marni[/name] & the [name]Hitchcock[/name] movie.
Itās spunky, jammy sweet & works so well on a girl today.
Canāt say enough good things about [name]Marnie[/name]!
