Reminds me of the anime [name]One[/name] Piece. My young cousins have a cat named Nami after the character. I think it’s a nice name, but could cause some pronunciation issues depending on your region. My parents read it as rhyming with [name]Amy[/name] every time they see it.
I think a lot of people would just confuse it with [name]Naomi[/name], personally. I sort of have that problem–[name]Naomi[/name] is one of my least favorite names ever, I really can’t find anything nice to say about it at all, and Nami looks so much like it that I instantly dislike it almost to the same degree as I dislike [name]Naomi[/name]. Then again, it sort of reminds me of [name]Cami[/name], which makes me think of [name]Camille[/name], so I like it a bit more, but not by much.
Good luck!
It’s very pretty, though I think [name]Ash[/name] is probably spot on with the [name]Naomi[/name] factor. Also, if she turns out to be a busy bee Tsunami is going to be a likely candidate for nickname. Fine by me, but I’d make sure it’s something you’re cool with
I studied Japanese and Nami means wave, and tsu means big so Tsunami is literally big wave if that bothers you!! i think it is far too similar to [name]Naomi[/name] (though i like [name]Naomi[/name]!)
I worked as an art teacher a few years ago, and I had a darling little girl named Nami in one of my classes. I think it’s a beautiful name, and I love the meaning “wave”.
I think it’s really cute. It does look like [name]Naomi[/name], so people may think it’s a typo if they see it written out, but I like the sound. Keep in mind that it sounds like Nam as in Viet Nam, and a lot of veterans refer to their “days in Nam.”
If it’s pronounced rhyming with [name]Tommy[/name], then it’s pronounced like Nommy, right?
If so, then I dislike it. It reminds me of when you eat and you say nom nom! Haha. Some people say it to describe how someone looks, e.g. “that guy is nommy!” i.e. that guy is yummy, hot, good-looking or whatever!
If it’s pronounced Nah-mee then I really like it! Very pretty
But yeah, obviously the association with Tsunamis!
I can’t imagine it rhyming with [name]Tommy[/name]. If it’s like the end of tsunami then surely it’s ‘nah-me’. Personally I think I’d just hear ‘tsunami’ when ever I heard it and they’ve killed so many people…
I think it is very pretty but I would only use it if my ancestors were Japanese etc. Cool for a nn.
Thanks all!
