WDYT of Ransom Pryor for a boy?

We are torn between [name_m]Pryor[/name_m] or [name_m]Ira[/name_m] for a middle name for our baby boy. [name_f][/name_f] First name [name_m]Ransom[/name_m] and last name is a run of the mill one syllable name similar to [name_m]Smith[/name_m], etc. [name_f][/name_f] Help!

I personally would lean towards [name_m]Ira[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f].

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Ransom[/name_m] [name_m]Pryor[/name_m] makes me think they may have have a prior charge for ransom

[name_f][/name_f]

I think both [name_m]Ransom[/name_m] and [name_m]Pryor[/name_m] are great individually. Definitely unexpected strong and bold but I personally wouldn’t put them together

[name_m]Ransom[/name_m] [name_m]Pryor[/name_m] has a very stately, monastic feel, while also giving modern-American-boy. It does feel a touch money related to me, maybe because of the point @Ehrob1[name_f][/name_f] made, but I do find them quite cohesive.

[name_f][/name_f]

I slightly prefer [name_m]Ransom[/name_m] [name_m]Ira[/name_m] in feel but find [name_m]Ransom[/name_m] [name_m]Pryor[/name_m] easier and better to say?

I generally prefer [name_m]Ira[/name_m], but [name_m]Pryor[/name_m] has a great sound and in this case I prefer [name_m]Pryor[/name_m] – I like how it sounds with [name_m]Ransom[/name_m]. It’s smoother, gentler and unexpected in a pleasing way.

[name_f][/name_f]

I wouldn’t have made the connection mentioned above. [name_m]Ransom[/name_m] is not a specific charge as far as I’m aware, and of course is not the intended meaning either in the context of a person’s name.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Do[/name_f] you prefer the meaning of one over the other? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you prefer the initials of one over the other?

First of all, congrats! I think all three are great names individually.

[name_f][/name_f]

I must admit that the criminality connection of [name_m]Ransom[/name_m] [name_m]Pryor[/name_m] was also the first thing that struck me. Neither one of those names by themselves make me think of crime, but when they’re together it’s quite a strong link in my personal opinion.

For that reason, if I were in your shoes, I’d go with [name_m]Ransom[/name_m] [name_m]Ira[/name_m]

both are super cool, but i slightly prefer ransom ira. i actually have that combination on my own list and think he’s handsome, spiritual, and sturdy yet unique. :evergreen_tree:

love to see ransom used, btw! whatever you choose will be lovely. best of luck! :horse:

wow, ransom pryor is so[name_f][/name_f] cool, i love it!

Is there a other Pr name you like? I much prefer the strong Pr sound after Ransom than a vowel starting second.

Could Ransom Prescott work? Or with another strong middle: Brenner, Beckett, Granger, Calloway?

Otherwise I think I’d go Pryor - though not sure I could personally commit to it as I’d fixate on the wordiness and prior ransom thing.

Both of them feel very… criminal? to me. [name_m]Ransom[/name_m] [name_m]Pryor[/name_m] for reasons others have pointed out, [name_m]Ransom[/name_m] [name_m]Ira[/name_m] because it makes me think of IRA (Irish Republican Army) kidnappings. In general, I find “a sum of money demanded or paid for the release of a captive” an infelicitous meaning for a baby name.

It’s too wordy to me personally. I do like the sound. Maybe [name_m]Ransom[/name_m] [name_m]Peter[/name_m]?

[name_m]Ransom[/name_m] [name_m]Ira[/name_m] feels like the safer choice…. [name_m]Ransom[/name_m] [name_m]Pryor[/name_m] is easily confused with “prior ransom” which doesn’t help with the negative perceptions [name_m]Ransom[/name_m] sometimes gets. [name_f][/name_f] [name_m]Ransom[/name_m] is a great name, and love the ties to CS [name_m]Lewis[/name_m]! [name_f][/name_f] I think I would opt for [name_m]Ransom[/name_m] [name_m]Ira[/name_m] myself, and maybe use save [name_m]Pryor[/name_m] for another sweet babe. [name_f][/name_f] I do like [name_m]Ransom[/name_m] [name_m]Pryor[/name_m] a lot visually, but it feels too wordy here. [name_f][/name_f] I also was getting tongue twisted with the R’s—at one point I was saying Prancin’ Ryder/Ryer :woman_facepalming:t3::woman_facepalming:t3:[name_f][/name_f]. That could very well just be a me problem, though. [name_f][/name_f] :joy:

[name_f][/name_f]

I think either are lovely, but my preference is [name_m]Ira[/name_m] I think.

Good luck!
