So, my husband and I announced our name picks for #2 to my family today. While they loved our boy name, [name_u]Rowan[/name_u], they weren’t over enthusiastic about our girl name, [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]. They didn’t hate it…but they didn’t say how beautiful it is or anything like that. Now, we’re not necessarily going to change our minds on a name we really like just because not everyone in the family is in love with it. But, it did make me want to ask…what do YOU think of [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]? Does it conjure up an image for you? Does it sound well with her sister, [name_f]Isobel[/name_f]? What would you give as a middle name?
I adore [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]. It has a nice musical flow, and it has such pretty associations… I’d give it a simple mn, probably a one-syllable middle:
[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] [name_f]Cate[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] [name_f]Maud[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] [name_f]Brynn[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] [name_f]Tess[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] is gorgeous with [name_f]Isobel[/name_f]!
I have a little relative named [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] [name_f]Ada[/name_f] which I love. [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] makes me think of a sweet, sometimes cheeky, little blonde; this names ages so well and nns [name_f]Rose[/name_f] or [name_f]Rosi[/name_f] are great.
I’m rubbish at middle names so I can’t help you there. But as for [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f], I just [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] it! SO classic, timeless really. It’s beautiful. I picture it equally on a bouncing toddler or a young lady headed off to work. Stick with it!
I like Rosalie quite a bit. Of Rose names out there, Rosamund is my favorite, with Rosalie as a fairly close second. I like Rosie a lot, and dislike just Rose, so Rosalie is a very dainty, sweet choice. Very timely, stylistically. I think Isobel and Rosalie are a little hissy together, but it’s still gorgeous. My only hesitation is that I knew a Rosalie that went by Sally, and I really dislike Sally, lol, and that Rosalie was… very off. She sort of scared me, and wasn’t very pleasant to be around, lol. But if I can disassociate from her, I think Rosalie is very dainty and pretty, and Rosie’s an adorable nn.
I have absolutely no clue what MN I would use for it–maybe Rosalie Kate? Rosalie Elise? Probably something pretty simple. I like the idea of an “E” mn for it. Maybe Rosalie Eve, although that wouldn’t work with Isobel Yvonne.
ETA: I’m biased, of course, since the identical-sounding, and similar-looking Isabelle is my top choice for a girl, but there are many other names I would pick over Rosalie if I was naming a little Isabelle’s/Isobel’s/Isabel’s little sister. Mainly because we have similar-ish styles, but different enough that we have our own preferences. I’d probably end up with an Arianne, Violet, Charlotte, Eleanor, Grace, Adele, or Penelope after an Isabelle, but Isobel and Rosalie is really lovely, and if that’s your pick, it shouldn’t matter what I would pair as an Isobel’s sister. It’s probably better that all Isabelles and Isobels and Isabels don’t have an Arianne for a little sister. :]
Good luck!
@ashthedreamer Thanks for your input! [name_f]Violet[/name_f], [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] and [name_f]Adele[/name_f] have all been on my list as well, we have very similar taste in names.
We have the same problem with parents and [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]. I find the older generation don’t seem to like [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] as much as other [name_f]Rose[/name_f] names, maybe for them is a Mom or grandma name as the last time it was fashionable was when the film [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] came out in 1937?
[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] is fine. It goes well with [name_f]Isobel[/name_f].
It’s classy and pretty
[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] is absolutely beautiful! Such a romantic vintage name. [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t worry about family reactions. They will come around.
I think [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] is lovely, though I do prefer some of your other names from you signature. I think it would work fine as a sister to [name_f]Isobel[/name_f], but I’m more for using names you love in a sibling set as opposed to names that “fit” (I love [name_f]Lilac[/name_f], [name_m]Henry[/name_m], [name_m]William[/name_m], [name_f]Florence[/name_f] and [name_u]Harper/name_u, but they don’t fit, per say).
I would use:
[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] [name_f]Isla[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] [name_f]Florence[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] [name_f]Evelina[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] [name_f]Matilda[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]
I love [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]! Of course the image it conjures for me is largely in part to my own daughter [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] [name_f]Gabrielle[/name_f]: sweet, full of joy and laughter, musical, plus a little bit of firecracker.
[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] and [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] are a lovely pairing for sisters. The other middle name we liked/considered was [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f].
I love [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] [name_f]Jemma[/name_f], although personally I would spell it [name_f]Gemma[/name_f], as that’s one of my favorite names. [name_f]Edie[/name_f] is very cute, but I’m a believer in giving a baby a more formal name, with the shorter version as a nickname. So I would probably name her [name_f]Edith[/name_f] or some other name that has [name_f]Edie[/name_f] as a nickname if that’s your preference.
Thank you for calming my fears. We were at my parents’ today and they didn’t seem to mind [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f], maybe it just needed time to sick in? We’re thinking of [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] [name_f]Elowen[/name_f]. [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] means [name_u]Elm[/name_u] tree which would go with her sistemn [name_f]Yvonne[/name_f] meaning Yew tree. I’m also loving [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] [name_f]Arwen[/name_f] though as well…I have an uncle in [name_m]Wales[/name_m]
