So recently I’ve posted about the name [name_f]Anna[/name_f] but I’m still not sold on it. Today I stumbled across the name [name_f]Nancy[/name_f] and it’s growing on me, especially since I want to honor my mom and mother in law who both have the middle name, [name_f]Ann/name_f.
What are your thoughts? Would it go with my son’s name, [name_m]George[/name_m] [name_m]Edward[/name_m] (He’s named after my husband, father in law and dad)
I love it (even though it’s often dismissed as being “outdated”)! I think it’d go nicely with your DS’s name (especially since in both cases there would be a family connection).
I think it’s lovely. My grandmother was [name_f]Nancy[/name_f], everyone called her [name_f]Nan[/name_f] or [name_f]Nance[/name_f]. I think it’s just on the cusp of being ripe again! There are a few Nancys popping up here and there.
To me, it fits with other names like [name_f]Enid[/name_f] which are being used more often again. I like it, and think it goes well with [name_m]George[/name_m].
I’m not a fan of [name_f]Nancy[/name_f]. it feels too dated and sounds unpleasant to me. Some other [name_f]Ann[/name_f]- variations you might like: [name_f]Anna[/name_f], [name_f]Annika[/name_f]/[name_f]Anika[/name_f], [name_f]Hannah[/name_f], [name_f]Grace[/name_f] (the meaning of [name_f]Ann[/name_f]), or any -ann/anna- names like [name_f]Lilianna[/name_f], [name_f]Annabeth[/name_f], etc.
My great aunt is named [name_f]Nancy[/name_f], so personally I have a hard time picturing it on a young person, but I think it would be cute with the nickname [name_f]Nannie[/name_f] as a small child, and then she could sort of grow into it. I do think it goes well with your son’s name and is an adorable way to honor your family members.
I find [name_f]Nancy[/name_f] really fresh! Especially with the Stranger Things reference in pop culture. I think it fits [name_m]George[/name_m] very well. I would love to meet a little [name_f]Nancy[/name_f]!
I think it goes well with [name_m]George[/name_m], but I don’t like it, sorry. It does feel outdated to me without being vintage, and given the nicknames [name_f]Nan[/name_f] and [name_f]Nannie[/name_f] are common words for grandmother where I live, I think it’ll be really had to get away from the old lady image.
Not my personal cup of tea, but it fits with George, it’s got some interesting namesakes (my first thought was Lady NancyAstor), it’s got a jaunty sound that would stand out, and honestly, you’re probably ahead of the curve here fashion-wise. Go for it if you want to.
One random association I just thought of… didn’t NancyDrewhave a (female) friend named George?
[name_u]Love[/name_u] it! [name_m]George[/name_m] and [name_f]Nancy[/name_f] is a gorgeous pairing. I’ve actually met a couple of toddler aged [name_f]Nancy[/name_f]'s and found it to be the most endearing name to come across. I think it has more sparkle than [name_f]Anna[/name_f], I think you should go for it!
It is refreshing to hear [name_f]Nancy[/name_f]. The elementary and nursery schools are packed with the current popular names, so I like hearing something different.
I think [name_f]Nancy[/name_f] is beautiful, and it fits perfectly with [name_m]George[/name_m] [name_m]Edward[/name_m] (which is also lovely!). [name_f]Nancy[/name_f] is one of my own favourites, for a similar reason (my grandmother and mother both have [name_f]Ann/name_f in their names), so I’m so happy to see someone else who loves the name!
I love it! [name_f]Nancy[/name_f] is my name. I think it’s cute on a little girl and grows easily into an adult name. It sounds great with [name_m]George[/name_m]. Definitely less tired than [name_f]Ann[/name_f] or [name_f]Anna[/name_f]. I hope you use it! Another [name_f]Nancy[/name_f]…yay!
I’m usually a fan of old-fashioned ([name_m]Even[/name_m] [name_f]Enid[/name_f]/[name_f]Hattie[/name_f] old fashioned, not just the [name_f]Katherine[/name_f]/[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] types), but is [name_f]Nancy[/name_f] quite old enough to be classic? Maybe it’s just the Nancys that I know, but I would have thought [name_f]Nancy[/name_f] was more in the era of [name_f]Karen[/name_f]/[name_f]Linda[/name_f]/[name_u]Sandy[/name_u]. Which isn’t quite as classic as [name_m]George[/name_m]. But that might just be my experience, and I think [name_f]Nan[/name_f] is a very sweet nickname.
As alyssum pointed out, one of [name_f]Nancy[/name_f] [name_u]Drew[/name_u]'s best friends was named [name_m]George[/name_m] (a girl). For me that would prevent me from using the two names together, but perhaps [name_f]Nancy[/name_f] [name_u]Drew[/name_u] books aren’t as popular as they were & others wouldn’t make the connection. But that was what immediately came to mind for me.
My cousin [name_f]Nancy[/name_f] is married to [name_m]George[/name_m] so to me they just go together.
[name_f]Anna[/name_f] is plain but [name_f]Anna[/name_f]-[name_u]Jean[/name_u] or [name_f]Hannah[/name_f]-[name_u]Jean[/name_u] sound interesting now that we have overdosed on Annabels and Isabells.
My cousin is [name_f]Nancy[/name_f] [name_u]Jean[/name_u].
