Was just wondering what people think of this name and if it is more associated with being a girls name because of To Kill A Mockingbird. Thanks!
While I see why [name]Scout[/name] should be unisex, I associate it so strongly with To Kill a Mockingbird and [name]Scout[/name] [name]Willis[/name] that I do end up thinking of it as a girl’s name.
The only male Scouts I’ve encountered have been dogs, actually.
What goodhope said. I’ll add:
I think jokes about boy scouts may be worse for boys than jokes about girl scouts for girls.
I think people may get confused and think he’s [name]Scott[/name].
Good luck!
I associate [name]Scout[/name] with Buffalo Dreams (a not very famous Disney Movie) and that character was a girl, so to me it is only a girls name, sorry
It’s okay, if he’s a boy scout.
It seems more like a cutesy nickname like [name]Buddy[/name] or [name]Buster[/name], I can’t imagine a grown man named [name]Scout[/name].
Definitely tied to a girl in my opinion. I actually do know two little girls named scout, both under the age of 8, which I think is very sweet. Plus I don’t even know of any male dogs named [name]Scout[/name] - all female.
I think that it’s masculine enough to be used on a boy, but very tied to a girl.
I think jesba is right that it is likely to be mistaken for [name]Scott[/name] if used on a boy.
As a proper name, I find it too cutesy and lacking in substance for a boy or a girl. It’s a cute name when a child is young but doesn’t age well.
Definitely a girl’s name.
I don’t care [name]HOW[/name] much To Kill A Mockingbird and other media tells me it’s a girl name, it’s strictly boy… if you’re a dog.
I see it more as a girl’s name. Also I think if I saw it on a boy, because it looks so close to [name]Scott[/name], that I would wonder why not use [name]Scott[/name].
K, thanks- was just wondering. Someone suggested it and I didn’t know what to think of it.
I used to know a really cool guy named [name]Scout[/name]. [name]Scout[/name] [name]Finch[/name] never made me think of it as a girl’s name, and there’s nothing about it that screams “girl” to me. When I hear the name [name]Scout[/name] I picture a guy who loves the outdoors, hunting, fishing, etc. Basically your typical Southern guy.
