[name_m]Hi[/name_m]! So I’m at a point where I’m trying to step out of my comfort zone to expand my list…but I don’t want to go too out there. What are your opinions on the boys names [name_m]Ransom[/name_m] and [name_m]Reason[/name_m] (individually, of course)? Acceptable, or totally crazy?
ETA: Oh! And [name_m]Ramses[/name_m] too, if you don’t mind.
I actually like [name_m]Ransom[/name_m] - especially from a religious-name view point. [name_m]Reason[/name_m] seems odd, and [name_m]Ramses[/name_m] is fine but not my style.
I love both! Everyone tells me [name_m]Ransom[/name_m] isn’t usable but it would make a great middle name and [name_m]Ranson[/name_m] works, too. I think [name_m]Reason[/name_m] is really handsome and you can use [name_u]Rhys[/name_u]/[name_m]Rease[/name_m] as a nickname! [name_m]Ramses[/name_m] is very strong sounding but personally, not my favorite. I think all 3 are usable though!
I’m not at all keen on [name_m]Ransom[/name_m] myself due to the negative connotations (blackmail/prisoner/punishment) of the word.
[name_m]Reason[/name_m] I don’t dislike as much, however, all I tend to see in my mind’s eye are ‘Ahhh, the voice of [name_m]Reason[/name_m]’ digs at the kid, every time he speaks up. [name_m]Reason[/name_m] does have the sounds of a typical boy’s name though (ending in -son and having a [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] like sound going on) so it might just work.
[name_m]Ramses[/name_m] I like, however, I’d prefer it as a middle name I think, as it might be a bit heavy to carry as a first.
I actually knew a girl named [name_m]Ransom[/name_m], and I never thought of it as “odd.” I do remember thinking, “Isnt’ that boy’s name?” I like it!
I do not care for [name_m]Reason[/name_m]. It sounds like a celebrity baby name that the tabloids tear to shreds. As the wife of a UNC graduate, [name_m]Ramses[/name_m] makes me immediately think of their mascot.
I like [name_m]Ransom[/name_m] (means [name_m]Rand[/name_m]'s son), [name_m]Reason[/name_m] is nice as well. I’ve come across then name Ramsden in the past which you might like.
[name_m]Ransom[/name_m] is only a middle name and I prefer [name_m]Ramsey[/name_m] to [name_m]Ramses[/name_m]. As for [name_m]Reason[/name_m]… well, you’d better have a good one to name your kid that. I knew twins named [name_f]Wisdom[/name_f] and [name_f]Clarity[/name_f] and they were complete lunatics, so word/virtue names can get ironic pretty quickly. I think if you have to use [name_m]Reason[/name_m] it would make a better middle name.
[name_m]Ransom[/name_m]… as in being held ransom? And [name_m]Reason[/name_m]? Give me one good reason why [name_m]Reason[/name_m] would be a good name. Haha sorry - a little humor there.
I love [name_m]Ransom[/name_m]. It has a combination of cowboy panache and religious reference. I like [name_m]Reason[/name_m] in theory. I have a great uncle whose middle name was Reasin. [name_m]Ramses[/name_m] makes me think of the old condom line. For the younger generation, that reference might not be a worry, though.
I’ve always loved the name [name_m]Ransom[/name_m], and it’s actually the (last) name of the doctor in C.S. [name_m]Lewis[/name_m]’ Space Trilogy. I think it’s the kind of name that, if people knew a child with it, they would get it. I know a lot of people don’t like the name because of it’s meaning, but I think it has a nice bad boy feel like [name_m]Killian[/name_m] or [name_m]Gunner[/name_m].
I’ve also been considering [name_m]Reason[/name_m] as a nn for [name_m]Harrison[/name_m]. I love it, too. I think they make for a great sibset, with the only downside being the “reason” for a “ransom” connection.
I dig [name_m]Reason[/name_m]! [name_m]Ransom[/name_m], well, I can’t get over the “kidnapping ransom” thing. It sounds nice, but that connection ruins it for me. [name_m]Ramses[/name_m], well…hmm. I don’t dislike it? I’d probably be a wimp and go with [name_m]Ramsey[/name_m], though.
Good job stepping out of your comfort zone!! I’ve met a [name_m]Ransom[/name_m] and I think it’s okay. [name_m]Reason[/name_m] is a bit too much. And Rameses (however cool sounding) was cursed by God in the bible. Not just he himself but his entire bloodline.
However keep looking at Egyptian names. There are cool ones!
EDIT!!!
Think of some “normal” names you like the sound of and go from there to the more dangerous side
Example-
If you like the name Brian- why not Byron, or Myron.
If you like Brandon- Branson, Banyan, Braham, Bram
If you like Reason, why not Gracin?
I wouldn’t want to have to live day to day with any of these. Forced to choose, I guess [name_m]Ramses[/name_m] isn’t completely terrible. [name_m]Ransom[/name_m] would be very tough though. And also [name_m]Reason[/name_m]. They’re the sort of names that give pause in the resume pile.
