We can't decide...

Hello Berries,

We are trying to find a name for our little one. We can’t decide between [name_u]Elliott[/name_u], [name_u]Everest[/name_u] and [name_m]Felix[/name_m] (nn [name_m]Fox[/name_m]). We also like [name_u]August[/name_u] but for some reason it didn’t make it to our finale list.
Can you help us decide? [name_m]How[/name_m] do you know when a name is the “right” name?

Thank you!

My favorite is [name_m]Felix[/name_m], second choice [name_u]Elliot[/name_u]. [name_m]Felix[/name_m] [name_u]August[/name_u], [name_m]Felix[/name_m] [name_u]Elliot[/name_u]? It’s hard to explain the feeling of having The Name. It felt much more than a name. I could almost feel a personality (felt attached) to the name. If that makes sense. I have names now that I feel the same way about and it’s the hope to be able to use them some day. Feelings that you will regret not using the name.

I like all of your names. [name_m]Felix[/name_m] is probably my favorite on this list (your list also makes me think of my oldest–[name_u]Everett[/name_u]). When we were picking names, we started using a name we liked around the house talking about the baby for a week or so to see how it felt. We did that with a few names. I will also say, some people may have an “ah ha!” moment, but I never did. [name_m]Even[/name_m] after both sons were born, it took time for me to really see the little lumpy thing in front of me as [name_u]Everett[/name_u] or [name_m]Arthur[/name_m], but now I couldn’t see them any other way.

With both our daughters, my husband and I took our final contenders and lived with them for a few weeks without discussing names. I imagined scenarios throughout each child’s life and it became clear which names were sort of fun hypothetical names and which were names I would actually give to a real person. My husband pictured taking the baby to the office, introducing him/her to coworkers, and he said that one name kept coming up as the one he most enjoyed using in this scenario. Not sure if this is helpful, but since a name is an everyday thing, picturing how it works in every day life can make things clearer.

From your list, I love [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] and [name_u]August[/name_u] but they’re all great names! You cannot make a bad choice here, because each option is wonderful. Good luck!

1st of all, they’re all great names so you can’t go wrong. [name_m]Felix[/name_m] is my personal favorite followed by [name_u]Everest[/name_u].
As for knowing which name is right… I’m a name nerd so I always loved thinking about dozens of names and rationalizing why they are strong and meaningful choices. But when it came down to it, deep down, each time there was a name that I couldn’t deny was my child. I was sad thinking about giving up other lovely names I found… But there was one name that I knew was undeniably part of our family. A name that felt comfortable and cozy.
With my last we did use all our options for a few days each to see how they felt. It was fun. One name was exciting enough for us that we even made it our front runner for a bit. But in the end we went back to the name that I knew months before conception would complete us.

I watched this last night and thought it had some good ideas 5 Baby Name Hacks | Picking The Perfect Name Tips - SJ STRUM intro by EMILY NORRIS - YouTube

Good luck choosing the one ”

I like [name_m]Fox[/name_m] by itself. I would probably go [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] [name_m]Fox[/name_m] and call him [name_m]Fox[/name_m]. Good luck!

Thank you for sharing your experiences! We might try to use the names in our daily lives, and see if one feels better than the others.

@bellisaurusrex, [name_u]Everett[/name_u] & [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] make a gorgeous sibset!

@llbaby22, I wish I could feel this way. But I don’t feel anything for now. Maybe it’s too early?
[name_u]Elliott[/name_u] has been in my list since 2008 I believe. In my head, if we had a son, it was going to be [name_u]Elliott[/name_u] and nothing else. It was set in stone. And we are still in love with it.
[name_m]Felix[/name_m] was a long time favorite of mine also, but it had lost his sparkle… until I recently came across a little boy named [name_m]Fox[/name_m], and that’s when [name_m]Felix[/name_m] nn [name_m]Fox[/name_m] started to sparkle again.
[name_u]Everest[/name_u] is more recent, but it’s the name that resembles us the most. We like to travel, we love skiing, hiking, we are nature lovers. [name_u]Everest[/name_u] is rare but not out there. It sounds like [name_m]Ernest[/name_m] or [name_u]Everett[/name_u]. I can totally see it on a grown-up man. But I have such a hard time giving up [name_u]Elliott[/name_u]… And now [name_m]Felix[/name_m] makes its entry into the show.

@courtenayjay, thank you! I’m going to watch the video now.

We already have a middle name picked out for [name_u]Elliott[/name_u] (C@spi@n)! But [name_u]Elliott[/name_u] [name_m]Fox[/name_m] is stunning!

In order of preference:

  1. [name_u]August[/name_u] “[name_u]Gus[/name_u]”
  2. [name_u]Everest[/name_u] “[name_u]Ever[/name_u]”
  3. [name_u]Elliott[/name_u]
  4. [name_m]Felix[/name_m]

FYI, [name_m]Felix[/name_m] is the name of a European brand of cat food, which definitely puts me off the name.
