Hey, guys, how are you doing? I created my own account on nameberry to ask you for opinions on the name we chose for our baby girl, but I am a stubborn person and stared going through the forums and fell in love with another one, my husband loved it as well and now we can’t decide so, since you are all so good with names and matching them with the last name, I decided to ask for your help. First option was [name_f]Thais[/name_f]. I am brazilian, my husband is australian and our baby will be born and raised here in Australia, so I suggested a couple of brazilian names and we both loved this one. It’s pronounced ty-EES and means love, beloved or bandage (sorry, i spelled it wrong before lol). She could go by [name_u]Izzy[/name_u] or T, I think. The second one, the one we fell in love with thanks to nameberry is [name_f]Davina[/name_f]. Means beloved and friend, and she could possibly go as D, [name_f]Nina[/name_f] or [name_m]Davey[/name_m]. Our last name is O’[name_m]Brien[/name_m] and we don’t really want a middle name, so, please, berries, can you help us?
I prefer [name_f]Davina[/name_f] O’[name_m]Brien[/name_m] because a) it flows better than [name_f]Thais[/name_f] O’[name_m]Brien[/name_m] and b) it will be much easier for others to spell and pronounce in Australia where she’ll grow up.
I love [name_f]Thais[/name_f]!
[name_f]Davina[/name_f] flows better with your last name.
[name_f]Davina[/name_f], I believe, is the female version of [name_m]David[/name_m]? And it’s much more common.
I love that [name_f]Thais[/name_f] Brazilian apparently, so that brings a beautiful balance to the name and child being raised in Australia.
[name_f]Thais[/name_f] may have the issue that it sounds unisex to me, if this would bother you. [name_f]Davina[/name_f] doesn’t have that issue.
Geeat choices either way! Care to keep us posted on what you decide?
When you said [name_f]Thais[/name_f] means “bondage”, I intriguingly looked it up and I’m relieved to find it’s actually “bandage” lol. While I think [name_f]Davina[/name_f] would be easier to spell/pronounce, I prefer [name_f]Thais[/name_f] as I find [name_f]Davina[/name_f] to be a mum name.
omg i didn’t notice i spelled it wrong, thank you. lol
[name_f]Thais[/name_f] is a beautiful name with beautiful history and I think it’s my favorite option for you.
I’m in love with both of them, it’s so hard to decide.
Yes, [name_f]Davina[/name_f] is a female version of [name_m]David[/name_m] and I think it sounds so pretty and feminine but also strong.
On the other hand, we have [name_f]Thais[/name_f] which sounds very happy, cheerful and bubbly and it was on my mum’s list before she decided to call me [name_f]Ana[/name_f] [name_f]Beatriz[/name_f]. I also think it sound a bit like a “gender neutral” name, probably because I’m used to girl names ending in -a or -e. I’ll sure keep you updated when I decide. And thank you!
I have always had a soft spot for the name [name_f]Davina[/name_f] because it is delicate and strong at the same time. However, having read about [name_f]Thais[/name_f], I understand your quandary. [name_f]Thais[/name_f] is beautiful and has a great meaning. I also think it would be easy to pronounce / spell after only one explanation (to a stranger). I also prefer the nick names that come along with [name_f]Thais[/name_f].
[name_f]Davina[/name_f] is easier to spell and a more commonly understood name in english speaking places. They are both wonderful. Could you wait until you meet your daughter? She may seem more like a [name_f]Davina[/name_f] or a [name_f]Thais[/name_f]. Either way, the names you are considering are great so your daughter will be beautifully named! Congrats!
I would stick with [name_f]Thais[/name_f].
I might have a soft spot for it as well, can’t beliebe I’ve never seen or heard it before. My worries about [name_f]Thais[/name_f] were exactly the fact the we/she would have to explain how to say or write it to every stranger we happen to meet. I’ll probably wait, it’s not a bad idea at all. If we don’t decide until her birth, we’ll wait to see her. Thank you.
Both beautiful names, but [name_f]Davina[/name_f] flows better with your last name. Tough call!
One [name_u]Berry[/name_u] has in her signature a quote that suggests you should close your eyes and say the name and see if it makes you smile. Maybe you’ll be able to choose that way!
Good luck
Well, that’s definitely a good way to do it! Thank you so much.
I think both are great, but I agree with others that [name_f]Davina[/name_f] will probably be a little easier to use in Australia. It’s beautiful, and I love the idea of a baby [name_m]Davey[/name_m]!
[name_f]Davina[/name_f] is so so so gorgeous!
[name_f]Davina[/name_f] is absolutely stunning! I’ve never met anyone with this name so it seems like a rare gem to me. I also love the idea of the nn [name_f]Nina[/name_f] as I love [name_f]Nina[/name_f] on her own anyways.
Thank you so much, guys! Now I’m sure and she’s going to be [name_f]Davina[/name_f]! Thank you so much for your help!
