We don't LOVE anything!

We’re struggling with our girl names. [name]Baby[/name] will be here at [name]Christmas[/name] - we aren’t finding out what we’re having, but we’d like to take in 3 or 4 boy and girl names and decide once we see the baby what to name them. Boy names are 99.99% done, but we just can’t seem to narrow down our girl list.

I notice a lot of people have long girl lists because they like so many. For us, it’s more that we don’t really like/love any, but can tolerate some, and those ones are on the list. Subconsciously, for me, it might be that I really don’t want a girl. Yes yes, blah blah, I’ll be happy if the baby is healthy, that’s not what I’m saying. I’ve just never wanted a girl, ever. Anyways, if one should pop out, I’m afraid the poor thing won’t be named for a long time. [name]Both[/name] my husband and I have names we love, but have vetoed. It seems that the common ground names aren’t really making either one of us happy. His favourite is [name]Cadence[/name]… I just can’t get over it sounding like [name]Prudence[/name], which I personally envision as a crotchety old school marm. We compromise on [name]Caiden[/name]. My ultimate fav is [name]Eowyn[/name], but his whole family is ESL, so pronunciation would be an issue, and we know it would get mispronounced in general a lot.

Here’re a few names that we are sort of ok with - any suggestion of new names that look like they fit our style, or comments on the ones we have are welcomed. I know there’s more than this, but they’re saved on my computer at home, and I’m at work… shhh. See? [name]Just[/name] goes to show how un-in love with them we are, I can’t even remember them all. Anyways, thanks!

[name]River[/name]
[name]Phoenix[/name]
Raux (or [name]Ro[/name] is a nn… but we can’t seem to find a long name that we like that it would work for)
[name]Willow[/name] ([name]LOVE[/name] Lo as a nn)
[name]Rayne[/name]
[name]Peyton[/name]
[name]Addison[/name] (dispise the nn [name]Addy[/name] though, and we know that’s what would happen)
[name]Keila[/name] (Key-la)
[name]Luna[/name]
[name]Caiden[/name]
Roma (male version of Rome got short listed, so this is our compromise)

And just to weigh in:
[name]Eowyn[/name]
[name]Cadence[/name]

PS - No idea about the mn. I’ve noticed that most of these sound good with [name]Rayne[/name] as a mn, but since we’re having a [name]Christmas[/name] baby, I’m tempted to use something holidayish, like [name]Eve[/name] or [name]Winter[/name] ([name]Holly[/name] is my brother’s dog’s name, so that’s a no-go).

[name]Luna[/name] is great!!! [name]Lu[/name] or lulu is a great nn for a girl, too!!

I agree that [name]Luna[/name] is great. [name]Willow[/name] is also nice - but would cause problems for many ESLs as well. The rest I like less, but our naming styles seem VERY far apart.

Keep searching if you can’t find something you both love.

[name]River[/name] - I like it
[name]Phoenix[/name] - Masculine… I wouldn’t give this name to a girl for that reason.
Raux (or [name]Ro[/name] is a nn… but we can’t seem to find a long name that we like that it would work for) - Dislike
[name]Willow[/name] ([name]LOVE[/name] Lo as a nn) - I like it
[name]Rayne[/name] - Dislike. Maybe if it were spelled [name]Rain[/name] I would like it a little better, but not much.
[name]Peyton[/name] - [name]Even[/name] though this name is unisex, it seems masculine to me.
[name]Addison[/name] (dispise the nn [name]Addy[/name] though, and we know that’s what would happen) - Dislike.
[name]Keila[/name] (Key-la) - Really dislike.
[name]Luna[/name] - Like it OK
[name]Caiden[/name] - [name]Even[/name] though this name could be unisex, it seems masculine.

And just to weigh in:
[name]Eowyn[/name] - I like the sound, but not sure how I feel about the name. I’m not sure if I like it or dislike it.
[name]Cadence[/name] - I like [name]Cadence[/name]. I know a [name]Cadence[/name] nn [name]Cadey[/name].

It seems like you and your husband like nature names and unisex names. [name]How[/name] about -
[name]Calla[/name]
[name]Emmerson[/name] / [name]Emerson[/name]
Laef
[name]Brady[/name]
[name]Devon[/name]
[name]Emery[/name]
[name]Finley[/name]
[name]Olive[/name]
[name]Sable[/name]
[name]Lake[/name]
[name]Harper[/name]
[name]Laurel[/name]
[name]Lark[/name]
[name]Ivy[/name]
[name]Aspen[/name]
[name]Avis[/name]
[name]Greer[/name]
[name]Riley[/name]
[name]Dahlia[/name]
[name]Wren[/name]
[name]Bellamy[/name]
[name]Fern[/name]
[name]Finch[/name]
[name]Kendall[/name]
[name]Teagan[/name]
[name]Iris[/name]
[name]Skylar[/name] / [name]Skylar[/name]
[name]Rowan[/name]
[name]Cameron[/name]
[name]Paloma[/name]
[name]Reese[/name]
[name]Quinn[/name]

Maybe if you research more nature and unisex names you will find girl names you love. Good luck!

I always liked the idea of [name]Ramona[/name] with the nickname [name]Ro[/name] but I’m not sure that it really fits with your style at all. [name]Ramona[/name] [name]Eve[/name] is pretty though!

[name]Do[/name] you like Elowyn/Elowen at all? It might take away some of the pronunciation issues of [name]Eowyn[/name] but still has a similar feel.

1 [name]Roma[/name] - the rarest and most interesting name on your list for me. You may also like [name]Romilly[/name], [name]Romana[/name] or [name]Romina[/name].
2 [name]Willow[/name] - trendy but soft and pretty. Other tree names to consider: [name]Sequoia[/name], [name]Cypress[/name], [name]Cedar[/name] and [name]Rowan[/name].
3 [name]Luna[/name] - getting popular but it has a lovely meaning. [name]How[/name] about [name]Lyra[/name], [name]Lola[/name], [name]Lila[/name], [name]Leila[/name] or [name]Aria[/name]?

I’m not too crazy about the remaining names on your list although [name]Eve[/name] and [name]Winter[/name] would be great mn choices.

I love the suggestion of [name]Ramona[/name]! You could use [name]Roma[/name] or [name]Romy[/name] as a nn, which are both really cool, imo. I think [name]Ramona[/name] [name]Claire[/name] would be pretty (no real [name]Christmas[/name] connection, but I love that “clair” is the French word for “clear”, so it reminds me of the [name]Christmas[/name] carol, It Came upon a [name]Midnight[/name] Clear. Yes, I’m a dork. :)).

I really like [name]Willow[/name] (Lo is cute. I love [name]Lola[/name], though. And [name]Willa[/name]. [name]Love[/name], love, love [name]Willa[/name]!), and [name]Luna[/name]. Unisex names aren’t really my thing at all, so I’m not sure about suggestions, but I do like the suggestion of [name]Kendall[/name]. I’ve been really liking it lately, for some reason. I love the suggestion of [name]Olive[/name], too.

I remember reading this one book when I was little, all five girls were named after types of trees. Two of them were [name]Olive[/name] and [name]Cassia[/name], those two have stuck with me. I love those as nature names. I think something like [name]Georgia[/name]/[name]Georgiana[/name]/[name]Georgina[/name] might be up your alley, too?

Good luck!

Thanks for all the input so far ladies - quite a few of the suggestions I/he loves, but we’ve vetoed. It’s hard, because we’re both big name lovers, and have been talking about names since we were dating. So this isn’t a new process… it’s years in the making, which is why we feel like we’ve exhausted so many avenues. But still keep them coming, you’ve all definitly caught on to our style!

Congratulations! My thoughts:
[name]River[/name], [name]Phoenix[/name]- I like these- on boys. I think [name]Willow[/name] is a more feminine, appealing nature name.
Raux (or [name]Ro[/name] is a nn… but we can’t seem to find a long name that we like that it would work for)- I love [name]Ro[/name] as a nickname! I think Raux looks very faux-French; it’s definitely not sophisticated looking to me. Longer forms could be: [name]Rose[/name], [name]Rosalie[/name], [name]Rosario[/name], or any other form of [name]Rose[/name]; [name]Romilly[/name], [name]Roxana[/name], [name]Caroline[/name], [name]Roisin[/name], [name]Romina[/name], [name]Romana[/name] (also works for [name]Roma[/name])
[name]Willow[/name] ([name]LOVE[/name] Lo as a nn)- I really like [name]Willow[/name]! I like also [name]Willa[/name] and Lo as a nickname.
[name]Rayne[/name]- I think it’s much better spelled [name]Rain[/name]. [name]Rayne[/name] just sort of looks like it came from nowhere.
[name]Peyton[/name], [name]Addison[/name] (dispise the nn [name]Addy[/name] though, and we know that’s what would happen)- both are quite trendy and masculine to me, especially [name]Addison[/name] (means “[name]Son[/name] of [name]Adam[/name],” ) And [name]Addy[/name] is avoidable, but I really don’t think [name]Addison[/name] is a nice enough name itself to go through the trouble.
[name]Keila[/name] (Key-la)- I prefer [name]Leila[/name]. [name]Keila[/name] ([name]Kayla[/name]) is quite bland and dated to me.
[name]Luna[/name]- Along with [name]Willow[/name], a definite standout here! I think this is a really fantastic name!
[name]Caiden[/name]- “I didn’t like x, so we compromised” is almost never a recipe for a name you’ll love well into the future. And when your daughter’s class has 9 boys named [name]Aiden[/name], [name]Brayden[/name], [name]Kayden[/name], Khaden, [name]Hayden[/name], [name]Jaden[/name], [name]Zayden[/name], and [name]Rayden[/name], I doubt you’ll still think of [name]Caiden[/name] as cute and original.
[name]Roma[/name]- Again, I think you should only settle for a compromise if NOTHING else is better. This could be a nickname- [name]Romilly[/name] and [name]Romana[/name] come to mind. I prefer it as a nickname because it’s too place-y for my taste, but the sound is appealing.

Top choices are [name]Luna[/name] and [name]Willow[/name]. Good luck!

[name]River[/name] - meh.
[name]Phoenix[/name] - don’t like, too weird and definitely reminds me of a boy
Raux (or [name]Ro[/name] is a nn… but we can’t seem to find a long name that we like that it would work for) - don’t like, she’d have issues with pronunciation confusion
[name]Willow[/name] ([name]LOVE[/name] Lo as a nn) - really pretty!
[name]Rayne[/name] - too stripper for me
[name]Peyton[/name] - very nice, the only association I have is with the Mad Men actress [name]Peyton[/name] List. No problems with that though!
[name]Addison[/name] (dispise the nn [name]Addy[/name] though, and we know that’s what would happen) - don’t do it. too popular. and you [name]WILL[/name] get [name]Addy[/name]
[name]Keila[/name] (Key-la) - weird way of spelling [name]Kayla[/name]. Seems like you’re trying to hard. Phonetically, that would be pronounced K-eye-la, just so you know.
[name]Luna[/name] - pretty!
[name]Caiden[/name] - too popular with all the other -ayden’s
[name]Roma[/name] (male version of [name]Rome[/name] got short listed, so this is our compromise) - I really like it!

And just to weigh in:
[name]Eowyn[/name] - very pretty, but I like Elowyn better
[name]Cadence[/name] - I think it’s cute, and I think of it as a much younger sounding name than [name]Prudence[/name]. [name]Cadence[/name] is a musical term, not a virtue name.

Other suggestions:
[name]Verity[/name] (virtue name, but not well-known, so you and your H might both like it!)
Elowyn
[name]Willa[/name]
[name]Ivy[/name]
[name]Lena[/name]
[name]Keira[/name]
[name]Sage[/name]
[name]Sable[/name]
[name]Adair[/name]
[name]Azalea[/name]
[name]Carys[/name]

I love [name]Willow[/name]! [name]Willow[/name] [name]Eve[/name] or [name]Willow[/name] [name]Noelle[/name] could be sweet. There’s also [name]Willa[/name] if you’re interested in an alternative. I can’t say I’m a big fan of your list apart from that. Elowen might be a nice alternative to [name]Eowyn[/name]. Maybe even [name]Arwen[/name] or [name]Anwen[/name]? Some more suggestions:

[name]Isla[/name]
[name]Olive[/name]
[name]Gwendolen[/name]
Aven
[name]Cara[/name]
[name]Cora[/name]
[name]Maya[/name]
[name]Hazel[/name]
[name]Riley[/name]
Zélie
[name]Juniper[/name]
[name]Phoebe[/name]
[name]Ramona[/name] (for Raux)
[name]Romola[/name]
[name]Romilly[/name]
[name]Haven[/name]
[name]Adeline[/name]
[name]Emmeline[/name]
[name]Emilia[/name]
[name]Noa[/name]
[name]Asha[/name]
[name]Wren[/name]
[name]Livia[/name]
[name]Lilia[/name]
[name]Carys[/name]

Anything there?

Here are some of the names that came to mind when I saw your list:

Tess/Tessa
Bryn
Saige/Sage
Arwen
Sedona- I thought of this when I saw Phoenix on your list. Sedona seems more feminine IMO.
Jocelyn
June
Piper
Bailey
Ivy

I LOVE Eve and Noelle as middle names.

I can completely relate to your feelings regarding not loving any of the names that you can agree upon. Hopefully you’ll find something in this thread that you’ll love.

I love [name]Willow[/name] and [name]Cadence[/name]! Beautiful names. What about [name]Adelaide[/name] as an alternative to [name]Addison[/name] – [name]Addy[/name] doesn’t stand out as much. [name]Do[/name] you like [name]Delaney[/name]? I think it captures a lot of what makes [name]Cadence[/name] a great name.
As far as mn ideas go, I love [name]Eve[/name], [name]Winter[/name], and [name]Noelle[/name]! Another idea is [name]Belle[/name]. I’ve always thought that would make a sweet mn for a [name]Christmas[/name] baby, like a little [name]Christmas[/name] bell.

[name]Dominica[/name]
[name]Meadow[/name]
[name]Harper[/name]
[name]Harlow[/name]
[name]Harley[/name]
[name]Kendall[/name]
[name]Chloe[/name]
[name]Melody[/name]
[name]Harmony[/name]
[name]Felicity[/name]
[name]Fiona[/name]
[name]Bianca[/name]
[name]Ruby[/name]
[name]Shasta[/name]
[name]Delina[/name]
[name]Davina[/name]
[name]Daria[/name]
[name]Phoebe[/name]
[name]Ophelia[/name]
[name]Luka[/name]
[name]Minerva[/name]
[name]Aquinnah[/name]
[name]Zara[/name]
[name]Cleo[/name]
[name]Bridget[/name]
[name]Thora[/name]
[name]Ivy[/name]
[name]Iris[/name]

Of all the names that you mentioned [name]Winter[/name] is the one that stood out to me; could this be a contender for first name?

My alternate suggestions would be my faves, as per my signature below…

[name]River[/name] – [name]Love[/name] this name, but, while it works for a boy or a girl, it is quite a bit more popular for little boys than little girls. Prepare for gender confusion.
[name]Phoenix[/name] – Nice name, but I think this one is even more masculine.
Raux (or [name]Ro[/name] is a nn… but we can’t seem to find a long name that we like that it would work for) – Not familiar with this name, but I’m guessing it’ll be mispronounced a bit. [name]Ro[/name] is a cute nn, though!
[name]Willow[/name] ([name]LOVE[/name] Lo as a nn) – This one might be a winner. It seems like you guys are drawn toward nature names, and unlike some of your other favorite nature names, this one is clearly feminine. Sweet nn, too. Easy to pronounce, easy to spell.
[name]Rayne[/name] – I like the sound of this name, but with all the different spellings out there it can be confusing. Still, it’s definitely a name to consider.
[name]Peyton[/name] – Another unisex name, but the girls have this one for the moment. It’s a lot more popular than some of the other names you’re considering (53 for girls, 166 for boys), so don’t be surprised if you encounter other Peytons (or Paytons).
[name]Addison[/name] (dispise the nn [name]Addy[/name] though, and we know that’s what would happen) – Nice name, but at 13, it’s quite popular. It feels like a trendy spin-off of [name]Madison[/name], though it has its own roots and history.
[name]Keila[/name] (Key-la) – Sweet name, but it will be mispronounced often.
[name]Luna[/name] – This name has a mystical, storybook feel to me. Good name if that’s what you’re going for.
[name]Caiden[/name] – I can’t see this as a girl’s name, though it’s sweet on a boy.
[name]Roma[/name] (male version of [name]Rome[/name] got short listed, so this is our compromise) – Simple and straightforward, but not at all common. It sounds like a name that would be used for an older woman, though. Is [name]Rome[/name] special to you? If so, that might be a good reason to choose this name. I think [name]Romy[/name] is a sweet nn.

This list has so few clearly feminine names (and even a few that are generally masculine) that I think your desire for a sun is really shining through. I hope you get that boy you’ve dreamed of!

And just to weigh in:
[name]Eowyn[/name] – I do like this name when pronounced correctly, but because so few people will know how to pronounce it, she’ll have to explain her name whenever she meets someone new (and probably will have to repeat the pronunciation several times before others will remember the pronunciation.
[name]Cadence[/name] – I actually really like this name a lot. Sweet, and because it’s also a musical term, it’s straightforward in terms of pronunciation and meaning. You have a great nn option with [name]Cady[/name] (though [name]Cadence[/name] is lovely on its own). The one negative of this name? Funky version “[name]Kaydence[/name]” is just a hair more popular.

Other ideas for a baby born at [name]Christmas[/name]: [name]Natalie[/name] or [name]Noelle[/name] (though [name]Eve[/name] and [name]Winter[/name] are also nice choices).

[i]Combo ideas (with an asterisk beside my top two combos for each fn:

*Willow Eve
*Willow Rayne
Willow Natalie
Cadence Eve
Cadence Rayne
*Cadence Winter
Cadence Natalie
*Cadence Noelle
*Roma Eve
Roma Rayne
Roma Natalie
*Roma Winter
Roma Noelle
Roma[/i]

[name]Love[/name] that suggestion! Never came across that in my ‘[name]Christmas[/name] name’ searches. Thanks!

Looks like [name]Willow[/name] is the top contender for most people. Our only drawback is that it’s actually the name of the church we attend now - but I’ve liked then name long before then. Second choice seems to be [name]Roma[/name] - my husband and I were there last year (In Italian, [name]Rome[/name] is pronounced this way) and loved it so it does have a special meaning to us. I’m also surprised that most people think of [name]Phoenix[/name] as a boy’s name - I’ve only ever known females with that name.

People have mispronounced/misspelled my name my whole life, and it’s never really bothered me, so I guess I’m not as worried about those kinds of concerns. Hmmm, I’ll have to read off some of your suggestions to the hubby, see if anything sticks. Oh! I’m at home now, so here are the other ones that were on our list:

[name]Alexia[/name]/[name]Alexis[/name] (tribute to my Grandfather, [name]Alexander[/name])
Liviya
[name]Aria[/name]
[name]Hailey[/name]

Some of you are right… these ones I couldn’t remember are far more feminine… clearly I’m desperately wanting a boy, haha.

I like your seasonal choices - Eve or Winter. Either would be very nice for a Christmas time baby girl! As for your other choices, I like Willow and Luna the best. Most of your other names have a rather masculine feel to them, and I’m not a fan of that for baby girls.

Oooh, I also like PP’s suggestion of Belle for a Christmas baby!

PS - My sister was desperate for a boy and had a girl, too. Now that she has her girl, she loves it! You’ll get used to the idea and once you meet her, you won’t be able to imagine it any other way!

(Sorry for repeats)

I like [name]Avalon[/name] for you. [name]Avalon[/name] [name]Eve[/name] is beautiful. You seem to like quite a few -n ending names.

In stead of [name]Cadence[/name] (I am not a fan of this name either), how about [name]Florence[/name] nn [name]Flo[/name]? Or [name]Flora[/name]?

Or [name]Sloane[/name]? Only 1 syllable, too little?

If you like [name]River[/name] and [name]Rayne[/name], then how about [name]Raven[/name]?

Good luck!
