We need help deciding a girls name!

We like the names [name_f]Felicity[/name_f], [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] and [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]. We like classic traditional names. We like [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] because it means happiness and I had the [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] American Girl doll when I was younger that I loved. We like [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] because that was my husband’s grandma’s name and we like southern names. We like [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] because it was my grandma’s mom’s name and I was very close to my grandma. We are unsure about [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] because there is not a nickname we love. I’m unsure about [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] because I first hear “[name_m]George[/name_m]” in the name and it kind of takes away from the girliness of the name for me. We are unsure about [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] because we are unsure how we feel about one syllable first names. Big sister is [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]. Please help us decide!

I think they’re all nice names and go well with [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]. Does she have a nn she regularly goes by?

[name_f]Felicity[/name_f] is personally my favorite, and I would consider how often you would really feel the need to call her by a nn. Maybe when calling for dinner from the other room, “Liss” or one of the many diminutives wouldn’t be so bad, and she can be referred to as [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] otherwise.

As for [name_f]Georgia[/name_f], I do feel similarly with the first syllable “[name_m]George[/name_m]”. It’s not necessarily bad, but the first syllable of a name is common to use at times, and my taste leans girlier. If I’m honest, I think it may be a little on the nose southern themed with [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f].

I consider [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] a longer one syllable name, being five letters, and having three consonants all making their own sound. I find it very vintage but in a cute rather than fussy way. Kids will be familiar thanks to Spongebob. Would you use a nn here too?

Rather than looking at what’s wrong with each name, I think you should focus on which makes you feel good!

Like justthinkin, my favorite of your list is [name_f]Felicity[/name_f]. Fliss, Liss, [name_f]Lissa[/name_f], [name_f]Lissie[/name_f], [name_f]Flick[/name_f]…IDK if any of those nns appeal? In spite of its length, though, [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] is easy & fast to say. To my ear, [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] & [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] flow well together.

Also like justthinkin, [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] w/[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] is too over-the-top Gone-With-the-Wind. I also hear “[name_m]George[/name_m]” before anything else.

[name_f]Pearl[/name_f] is pretty & vintage & to my ear goes pretty well w/[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]…[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] & [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]. If your last name is one syllable, though, I wouldn’t use [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] as a first name. I tend to like it as a middle name rather than a first, though.

You didn’t mention what [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]'s middle name is…would [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] go w/[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [insert name here]?

[name_f]Felicity[/name_f] would be my choice. It’s so pretty as it is, it doesn’t scream needing a nickname. I find that most of my kids have nicknames that we call them affectionately that have very little to do with their actual names. It’s the kind of thing that gradually grows.

[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] and [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] sound like perfect sisters.

Great names to choose from!

I do like [name_f]Felicity[/name_f], but I can’t think of any more nn that haven’t been mentioned yet.

I actually really like the name [name_f]Georgia[/name_f]. Probably because I like the name [name_u]Georgie[/name_u] for a girl. If the “[name_m]George[/name_m]” association isn’t for you, maybe consider [name_f]Geneva[/name_f], [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f], [name_u]Jori[/name_u]?

As for [name_f]Pearl[/name_f], you could lengthen the name to [name_f]Pearla[/name_f] or [name_f]Pearline[/name_f]/[name_f]Pearlina[/name_f]? You could also you Margaret as a name, which means Pearl.

I actually really adore [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] with [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]. That would be my vote.

[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] and [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] and [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] and [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] both work very well, and between the two it sounds like you’re most excited about [name_f]Felicity[/name_f].

Does [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] have a nickname? If not I really don’t think the lack of a nickname is all that important concerning [name_f]Felicity[/name_f].

As an English major, I would hesitate to use [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] with [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] because it would evoke The [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] Letter which is kind of a grim association. I would also share the concern about [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] and Gone with the Wind.

I love [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] and its meaning to you and it sounds great with the sister name, so that would be my strong top choice.

For all the reasons above, I think [name_f]Felicity[/name_f]’s the best choice - though I really like [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] and am always struck by meeting them in real life. I don’t love the nickname options with [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] though, which makes it tricky. Meanwhile, I don’t love [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] as a first; it’s a really sweet middle.

Are there any other family names you’d use? Or would you consider a variation of them (meanings or looks) like [name_f]Verity[/name_f], [name_f]Blythe[/name_f], [name_f]Georgina[/name_f], [name_f]Abigail[/name_f], [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] or [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]?

Out of these three, I’m partial to [name_f]Felicity[/name_f]. I love how it sounds, its meaning and pretty much everything about it. My preferred nickname is Lissy. Feli, Fliss, [name_f]Flick[/name_f], Flicka, City, etc.

[name_f]Georgia[/name_f] and [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] are awesome as well. With sister [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] I actually like [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] the most. It’s short. I don’t normally like short names myself, but if you really love a name, you become more flexible with the rules. I say just give [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] a longer middle, if that helps.

All lovely names
My favourite overall is [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] but I think pearl goes really well with [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f].
[name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]
[name_f]Pearl[/name_f] [name_f]Felicity[/name_f]
[name_f]Georgia[/name_f] [name_f]Felicity[/name_f]
[name_f]Georgia[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]

My vote goes to [name_f]Georgia[/name_f]. I like the names [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] and [name_f]Pearl[/name_f], but the former feels a bit to gentle to be paired with [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] and [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] is a bit short. To me, [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] and [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] are feminine, lush, and rich names that pair perfectly.

I love all three! The only potential issue (which was already mentioned) is the [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]+[name_f]Georgia[/name_f]/Gone With The Wind connection, but that might bw a plus for you since you say you like southern names.

I personally would choose [name_f]Felicity[/name_f], and use one of the other names as a middle name, since they are honor names. I slightly prefer [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f], but [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] might sound better depending on the surname. Both are wonderful.

I think [name_f]Flick[/name_f] is an adorable nickname for [name_f]Felicity[/name_f], and I’ve also heard Liss/[name_f]Lissa[/name_f]. I probably wouldn’t pick a nickname ahead of time, something might naturally come out when you meet her.

Thank you all so much for your comments and suggestions! I can’t tell you enough how helpful you all have been in helping us make a decision. You all have made great points about things I hadn’t even thought of!

Justthinkin- [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] sometimes goes by “[name_f]Letty[/name_f]” as her nickname. I agree that [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] doesn’t necessarily need a nickname. As for a nickname for [name_f]Pearl[/name_f], probably [name_f]Pearly[/name_f]. Thank you for your advice on putting more focus on what I love about the names! I appreciate your comment!

Bobcat108- I love the nickname Lissy! [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]'s middle name is [name_f]Noelle[/name_f] so I do think that her name goes well with [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]! Thank you for your comment!

Flamingo- I totally agree! I do find myself saying nicknames that don’t even relate to my daughter’s name! Thank you for your comment!

River_Dweller- Thank you for your comment! I like your suggestions of alternate versions of [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] but not enough to use them. Thank you for suggesting them though! Thank you also for your suggestions with lengthening [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]. I appreciate your input!

Brittanyanitarose- Thank you for your comment! We usually just call her [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] and sometimes “[name_f]Letty[/name_f]”. I agree a nickname doesn’t seem to be all that important!

[name_f]Erin[/name_f] [name_f]Beth[/name_f]- Thank you for pointing out the association of [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] and [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] in the [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] Letter and [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] with Gone with the Wind. I hadn’t thought too much about those. Thank you for your input!

Eloiset- I agree, I do like when I hear someone is named [name_f]Georgia[/name_f]. Maybe I’m overthinking the “[name_m]George[/name_m]” part of it. It is a pretty name. We’ve been through other family name options and haven’t found any that we love. Thank you for your name suggestions. We will take them in to consideration! Thank you!

[name_f]Luneth[/name_f]- Thank you for your nickname suggestions for [name_f]Felicity[/name_f]! I like Lissy the best too. Thank you for the suggestion of using a longer middle name with [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] and for your comment!

Googlechrome- Thank you for your comment on the names! Thank you for the name combinations! I think I like [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] the best! Thank you!

Danakatherine- Thank you for your suggestion of [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] and [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] together! I agree they do have a nice sound being paired together!

Yellowplums- Thank you for your comment on the names! I’m not too concerned with the Gone with the Wind association because like you said I do love southern names. I also like the combination of [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]! I like your idea of waiting for a nickname to come naturally! Thank you for your help!

I like [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] best with [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]. Is a good nickname a deal breaker? My favorite nn is [name_f]Lissa[/name_f] but [name_f]Fay[/name_f] or [name_f]Fifi[/name_f] would work as well. I think [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] flows rather well so it doesn’t really need a nickname even though it’s a longer name. I’m okay with [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] and [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]. While I do love [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] I do find it too wordy with [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f].

Cyoung325- A good nickname would not be a deal breaker. I like [name_f]Lissa[/name_f]! Thank you for your comment!

My first thought was also [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]… beautiful!
As nicknames, [name_f]Lissa[/name_f]/[name_f]Lettie[/name_f] or Lissy/[name_f]Lettie[/name_f] go well together (did anyone mention [name_f]Flossie[/name_f]?)
I agree with [name_f]Erin[/name_f] [name_f]Beth[/name_f] about the literary associations that came to mind with the other two names.

Congratulations on having another little girl.

Vivi_simone- I love how you pointed out the combinations of the girls’ nicknames together! So cute! Thank you!

I love [name_f]Lettie[/name_f] & Lissy as pet names for sisters–and they would still each have a unique first initial with their formal names.

[name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] is lovely. I like the nicknames [name_f]Flick[/name_f] or Fliss for [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] but I also think it stands well on its own and doesn’t really need a nickname. I also really like [name_f]Georgia[/name_f], I don’t think you could go wrong with either. I’m not as big of a fan of [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] on it’s own, personally, but I think it definitely makes a cute middle name.

What about…
[name_f]Florence[/name_f] - [name_f]Flora[/name_f], [name_f]Florrie[/name_f], [name_f]Flossie[/name_f]
[name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] - [name_f]Maggie[/name_f], [name_f]Nola[/name_f], maybe even [name_f]Nora[/name_f]?
[name_f]Susannah[/name_f] - [name_f]Susie[/name_f], [name_f]Annie[/name_f], [name_u]Sunny[/name_u], [name_f]Zuzu[/name_f]
[name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] - [name_f]Lula[/name_f], [name_f]Lulu[/name_f], [name_u]Tally[/name_u]
[name_f]Virginia[/name_f] - [name_f]Ginny[/name_f]
