Weeding Through Middle Names - Part 1

Thanks for everyone’s feedback on my sibling for Jonas, Abigail, Bennett and maybe one day, Ronan poll.

Now I’m trying to work out top first middle name options for Eliana. Magnolia has emotional reasons for us. I want a Mary variation or inspired name as the first middle name. My grandmother was Merle who was supposed to be Meryl, but I don’t love her name. We have many Maries/Marys/Marias in our family as well so it’d honour them too. It’s just hard to get names that work with Eliana due to me loving the repeated sounds. I do adore Mariel/Meriel I just worry the flow will be clunky, but technically the number of characters including our surname is only two or three more than my son’s! Maren is too similar to a relatives surname unfortunately and Mae/May/Maeve is claimed by my sister, but would love something Celtic ideally.

  • Eliana Mariel Magnolia
  • Eliana Meriel Magnolia
  • Eliana Mary Magnolia
  • Eliana Meara Magnolia
  • Eliana Merryn Magnolia
  • Eliana Mirren Magnolia
  • Eliana Merewen Magnolia

This first poll will help me weed through them and I may do some follow up ones.

Of these options I like [name_f]Merryn[/name_f], [name_f]Mirren[/name_f], and [name_f]Mary[/name_f] best for flow. There are lots of lovely, mellifluous names here but all the Rs and Ls together can get a bit tricky to say unfortunately. Those -n endings help to give the combo some ‘punctuation’ and structure!

I know you said you didn’t love [name_m]Merle[/name_m] but it does have a great meaning (blackbird) so can I throw in the wildcard [name_f]Eliana[/name_f] [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f]?

Thanks for sharing your outlook!

I do agree, it’s definitely tricky and hard as I love names individually. I also found [name_f]Miara[/name_f] which is beautiful and another one we can’t use :upside_down_face:

Thanks, [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] isn’t really my style, but I’ll give it some thought! [name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Eliana[/name_f] [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] probably flows the best, but I’ve been loving [name_f]Mariel[/name_f] so much lately I couldn’t vote against [name_f]Eliana[/name_f] [name_f]Mariel[/name_f] [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f]! [name_f][/name_f] I also like [name_f]Eliana[/name_f] [name_f]Merryn[/name_f] [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f], but for some reason not as much as the others.

[name_f][/name_f]

Since [name_f]Mary[/name_f] itself is a form of [name_f]Miriam[/name_f], I think [name_f]Eliana[/name_f] [name_f]Miriam[/name_f] [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] or even [name_f]Eliana[/name_f] [name_f]Miri[/name_f] [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] (!!!) could also work well to honor all your Merle’s and Mary’s? [name_f][/name_f] I’m also quite partial to [name_f]Mireille[/name_f] or [name_f]Mirielle[/name_f] to honor a [name_f]Muriel[/name_f] in my family … I think [name_f]Eliana[/name_f] [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] [name_f]Mireille[/name_f], [name_f]Eliana[/name_f] [name_f]Mirielle[/name_f] [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f], or even [name_f]Eliana[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f] [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] would be really lovely, if you’re looking for additional options!

[name_f][/name_f]

Good luck!

Thank you for sharing your thoughts!

For whatever reason I’ve loved Mariel since childhood, so I feel like it’s the best of them all to be honest, despite the repeated sounds with Eliana. My only worry is the length, but I guess sometimes love trumps length!
Mirielle and Mireille are both beautiful! Though a little long long, one blessing would be Mireille would honour both grandparents Merle and Wray.

I actually LOVE this for you (and it solves the issue of tongue twistery Ls)!

I voted [name_f]Merryn[/name_f] because it makes me think of “merry”. I´d also like Merwenn, which is the original form of [name_f]Merewen[/name_f]. It looks nicer to me.
