✃ weird word names & their combos

i love my weird word names. i love my weird names in general, but word names just feel so right so often. i do find, though, that my word names tend to seem more out there than other weird names that i like. maybe it’s because we’re so used to seeing them in other contexts, but i just find myself caring way more about the weirdness of word names than i do with other names, and caring how other people will interpret them.

how do you feel about word names? would you ever use any? do you like them in theory, but steer away from them when thinking of actual childrens’ names? do you maybe stick to solely nature names or color names, words that easily transition into names, or are you down with some weird ones?

personally, i love word names. some of my absolute favorite names are word names, and i think some of them are ones that people might think are a little strange as names. a couple of my all time faves are basil, orange, day, love, and tea. i’m gonna make a big list of ones i love in a reply (because i tried to list some here and ended up typing a huge paragraph lol) and i’d love to hear some of your faves as well!! gimme opinions! gimme combos! gimme tips for using words as names! gimme all your thoughts!!

I think they can be really dreamy! I like whimsical word names like [name_f]Daffodil[/name_f], [name_f]Sunshine[/name_f], and [name_u]June[/name_u] much more than I like rugged word names like [name_m]Ransom[/name_m], [name_u]Cedar[/name_u], and [name_m]Bramble[/name_m].

Your selection are so cute. [name_u]Orange[/name_u], [name_f]Tea[/name_f], [name_u]Day[/name_u], and [name_u]Love[/name_u] !? Come on! Those are adorable. They go together like a little tea party.

[name_u]Love[/name_u] is my favourite word name, too! not sure if I’d be brave enough to use it as a first name, but I’d certainly use it in the middle. i also really like [name_u]Basil[/name_u] and [name_f]Tea[/name_f] from your selection (another one of my favourites middles is Tearose!)

some other word names that I really love are [name_f]Bee[/name_f], [name_f]Honey[/name_f], [name_u]Rune[/name_u], [name_f]Fairy[/name_f], [name_u]Dream[/name_u], [name_f]Sunshine[/name_f], [name_f]Plum[/name_f], [name_f]Muse[/name_f], [name_m]Saturn[/name_m] and [name_u]Mercury[/name_u]. the only word names I’d feel completely confident giving to a child are weekday names and month names - [name_f]Tuesday[/name_f], [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f], [name_f]Sunday[/name_f], [name_f]May[/name_f], [name_u]June[/name_u], [name_u]July[/name_u] and [name_u]August[/name_u].

i think you can clearly tell why i made this topic (and why i had to do this in a reply lol). i love word names! i made my top picks italicized in case you’re curious. i think also choosing word names from another language is a really helpful tip i have; if you live in a country where that language isn’t widely spoken, you’ll bypass the weirdness of adjusting to a word being used as a name! i speak french as my second language, so i see a lot of words in french that i think would make great unique names here in america where i live. this could also be a really cool way to honor family ancestry, by choosing a word from the official language of a country your family comes from! maybe just consult with a native speaker of the language and don’t use random words you find through a translator; you don’t want to name your kid something with a negative implication or something that doesn’t mean what you think it means.

i also have to mention that clementine is the name of a little baby girl i found on instagram once and her moms call her lemon for short which i think is ADORABLE

i’d love to hear your favorite word names if you have any!!

@snowmaiden thank you!! omg i adore the idea of a little tea party of siblings with whimsical little word names like this that’s so cute, and i totally agree about whimsical word names gotta love em

@Indilee i totally agree about love as a middle, i think it works especially well as a lil one syllable name to make a name with two middles flow nicely!! bee is so cute i would definitely use bee, and weekday names are some of my absolute favorites. also i know somebody named mercury and it suits them super well!

@Greyblue yess i love word names as middles. i especially love a short lil word name following a long vintage first, that perfectly describes my naming style right there. i never thought of glow and firefly as names before but those are so cute i’ll have to add them to my list!!
