[name_f]Wellesley[/name_f] (pronounced wells-ly) OR [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] for a boy’s first name?
If we went with [name_f]Wellesley[/name_f] as a first name we would go with [name_m]Wells[/name_m] as a nickname and if we went with [name_f]Wellesley[/name_f] as a middle name for [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] we would still use [name_m]Wells[/name_m] as a nickname, thoughts?
From all of your options, I prefer [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] [name_f]Blythe[/name_f]. [name_f]Wellesley[/name_f] just seems like one of those names people are always going to have trouble spelling and pronouncing. Have you considered using just [name_m]Wells[/name_m] as a name? [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] [name_m]Wells[/name_m] sounds nice too.
[name_f]Wellesley[/name_f] [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] gets my vote with nn [name_m]Wells[/name_m]. You are going to be calling him [name_m]Wells[/name_m] with either as a first so I would definitely name him [name_f]Wellesley[/name_f] [name_m]Atticus[/name_m]. Otherwise it is slightly confusing and he is going to be constantly explaining, “No, I go by my middle name.” I do like pp’s suggestion of just using [name_m]Wells[/name_m] if that is an option for you.
I think the spelling of [name_f]Wellesley[/name_f] is what is throwing me off. I think Wellsley or Wellsly would work better. That E in the middle makes me want to say Wel-es-ley instead of [name_m]Wells[/name_m]-ley. That being said Wellsley [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] nn [name_m]Wells[/name_m] is handsome. [name_m]Wells[/name_m] [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] is very handsome as well.
I completely agree with princessshannon. I love the name [name_f]Wellesley[/name_f], however the spelling slows me down and makes me think people will pronounce it wrong. I like Wellsley
[name_m]Atticus[/name_m] [name_f]Blythe[/name_f] however I do like [name_m]Wells[/name_m] so maybe [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] [name_m]Wells[/name_m] or [name_m]Wells[/name_m] [name_m]Atticus[/name_m]
I prefer [name_m]Atticus[/name_m]. I keep wanting to mispronounce [name_f]Wellesley[/name_f].
However, if you’re definitely going to call him [name_m]Wells[/name_m], I would vote for [name_m]Wells[/name_m] [name_m]Atticus[/name_m]. It’s easy to say and won’t be bungled by someone like me and he won’t spend his entire life correcting people since he goes by a short form of his middle name.
I’m not a fan of nicknames though. If you’re going to call them x, just name them x.
I worked with a woman who had a daughter named [name_f]Alison[/name_f] [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] (for example). Her family called her [name_f]Maggie[/name_f], short for [name_f]Margaret[/name_f], until she started kindergarten. Then, the teachers wanted to call her [name_f]Alison[/name_f]. The other kids started calling her [name_u]Allie[/name_u] because they had trouble with [name_f]Alison[/name_f]. The poor four year old had three different names to go by and a bit of confusion. In the end, the family had to stop calling her [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] and start calling her [name_u]Allie[/name_u].
We all love names and want to use as many as we can whenever possible. But whenever I start to get carried away, I think of poor [name_f]Maggie[/name_f]/[name_u]Allie[/name_u] and remember they’re just kids. Lets keep it easy on them.
I hope I didn’t step on any toes. This is all just my opinion, of course.
I would go with [name_f]Wellesley[/name_f] if you’re going to call him [name_m]Wells[/name_m]. Or [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] [name_m]Wells[/name_m] “[name_m]Wells[/name_m]” rather than [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] [name_f]Wellesley[/name_f] “[name_m]Wells[/name_m]”. I think [name_f]Wellesley[/name_f] is cool, I haven’t heard it before. Nameberry has it identified as a girls name, but I haven’t heard it either way and would consider it a place name, since i live near a [name_f]Wellesley[/name_f]. Of course the case could be made to save it for a pet… In which case, [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] [name_f]Blythe[/name_f]. Good luck!
I am not crazy about [name_f]Wellesley[/name_f] to be blunt, it almost sounds/ looks like a misprn of [name_m]Wesley[/name_m]. [name_m]Wells[/name_m], however, is a fantastic nickname. I think [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] [name_m]Wells[/name_m] nn [name_m]Wells[/name_m] is an excellent option.
