Welsh Names?

My mother’s family is Welsh, so I’m looking for names that are Welsh but still can be easily pronounced. I’ve found boy’s names I like ([name_m]Ciaran[/name_m], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u], [name_u]Rhys[/name_u]) but girl’s names are harder for me. Please help! Thank you!

I love Welsh names and Celtic names in general! When you mean easy to pronounce, do you mean that the pronunciation is obvious for English speakers from the spelling, or that the sounds are easy for an English speaker to make but you might have to tell them how it’s pronounced?

If the first:

[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f]/[name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f]
Morwen
[name_f]Rhiannon[/name_f]
[name_f]Bronwyn[/name_f]/[name_f]Bronwen[/name_f]
[name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f]
[name_f]Megan[/name_f]
[name_u]Tegan[/name_u]
[name_f]Bethan[/name_f]

If the second:

[name_f]Eluned[/name_f] (el-EE-ned)
[name_f]Gwyneira[/name_f] (gwin-AY-rah)
[name_f]Eira[/name_f] (AY-rah)
[name_u]Rhian[/name_u] (ree-in)
[name_u]Seren[/name_u] (seh-rin… rather than sair-in, though depending on where you live they might sound quite similar)
[name_f]Carys[/name_f]/[name_f]Cerys[/name_f] (kaa-riss, like the A in cat, or keh-riss, rather than care-iss… but again, those might actually sound quite similar out loud)
[name_f]Ffion[/name_f] (fee-awn)
[name_f]Elin[/name_f] (Welsh spelling of [name_f]Ellen[/name_f], pronounced the same… though it’s also a Nordic name pronounced ee-lin)
[name_f]Ceridwen[/name_f] (care-EED-wen)
[name_f]Alis[/name_f] (Welsh spelling of [name_f]Alice[/name_f], pronounced the same)
[name_f]Branwen[/name_f] (brahn-wen)
Meiriona (mehr-ree-OH-nah)
Ceinwen (kine-wen… there seem to be several pronounciations of this though)

I hope I got the pronunciations right! I checked a number of them with old Nameberry threads, but happy to be corrected if anyone else sees a mistake.

I also love [name_f]Angharad[/name_f] and Gwenllian but no hope of most English speakers getting those right… I can’t myself, but I love how they’re said in Welsh!

My name is [name_f]Brynn[/name_f]. I also [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_f]Elowen[/name_f]/Elowyn

For boys I like [name_u]Rowan[/name_u], [name_m]Griffin[/name_m], and [name_m]Emrys[/name_m] a lot. [name_f]Anwen[/name_f], [name_f]Arwen[/name_f], [name_f]Bronwen[/name_f], [name_f]Arianwen[/name_f], [name_f]Bethan[/name_f], [name_f]Carys[/name_f], [name_f]Eluned[/name_f] ([name_f]EL[/name_f]-a-ned), [name_f]Elin[/name_f], [name_f]Elinor[/name_f], [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f], [name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f], [name_f]Iona[/name_f], [name_f]Owena[/name_f], [name_f]Rowena[/name_f], [name_f]Rhiannon[/name_f], [name_u]Seren[/name_u], and [name_f]Rhoswen[/name_f] are also nice imo for girls

There’s also [name_u]Meredith[/name_u], Dylis (sounds like dill-iss), [name_f]Enid[/name_f], [name_f]Lois[/name_f], [name_u]Nesta[/name_u], [name_f]Isolde[/name_f], [name_f]Adara[/name_f], [name_f]Alis[/name_f] ([name_f]Alice[/name_f]), [name_f]Angharad[/name_f], Arlais, Caitrin, [name_f]Ceridwen[/name_f], Dafina ([name_f]Davina[/name_f]), [name_f]Delia[/name_f], [name_f]Delyth[/name_f], [name_f]Eleri[/name_f], [name_f]Glenda[/name_f], [name_f]Glenna[/name_f], [name_f]Glenys[/name_f], Gwenellian, [name_f]Iola[/name_f], [name_f]Iona[/name_f], [name_f]Madlen[/name_f], [name_f]Nerys[/name_f], [name_f]Nona[/name_f], [name_f]Petra[/name_f], [name_f]Rhonda[/name_f], [name_f]Tanwen[/name_f], [name_f]Una[/name_f], [name_f]Vanora[/name_f], [name_f]Wenda[/name_f], Ysbail, [name_f]Yseult[/name_f].

So many beautiful suggestions!

Welsh names are gorgeous! Many of my favourites have been mentioned already, but I haven’t seen the lovely little Tesni, which I think is beautiful, especially with her meaning - ‘warmth from the sun’.
