We're Adopting!?!

My husband and I have been married for 6 years and have a beautiful son named [name]Charles[/name] [name]Andrew[/name] nn [name]Charlie[/name]. I joined this site to find the perfect name for son #2 who will be [name]Jasper[/name] [name]William[/name].

Without getting into too much detail, my youngest sister is 6 months pregnant with a little girl. She is 17 and definitely not ready for parenthood. She’d decided previously that she would keep the baby no matter what, but has since changed her mind. She came to me asking if my husband and I would adopt her daughter and we have said yes.

We meet all the criteria and we have a home study coming up here in the next couple of weeks.

I have asked if my sister wants to help name the baby and she has said no. Her original choice was [name]Kaylee[/name] [name]Renee[/name].!

I would, however, like to honor her in some way: I was thinking about possibly having the baby’s initials be the same as my sister’s, but I’m not sure if thats too obvious. What do you think? They are M.L. btw.

I think that it’s a good idea

some suggestions;

[name]Melissa[/name] [name]Louise[/name]
[name]Melanie[/name] [name]Lauren[/name]
[name]Maria[/name] [name]Lois[/name]
[name]Marissa[/name] [name]Lily[/name]
[name]Michaela[/name] [name]Laine[/name]
[name]Malia[/name] [name]Louise[/name]
[name]Mara[/name] [name]Larkin[/name]
[name]Maisie[/name] [name]Lorraine[/name]
[name]Millie[/name] [name]Laurel[/name]
[name]Marcy[/name] [name]Lavender[/name]
[name]Margaret[/name] [name]Lilac[/name] nn [name]Maggie[/name]
[name]Miriam[/name] [name]Leah[/name]/[name]Leanne[/name]
[name]Martha[/name] [name]Lucille[/name]
[name]Megan[/name] [name]Leah[/name]
[name]Maya[/name] [name]Lenore[/name]
[name]May[/name] [name]Lynette[/name]

What do you think?

The first name I thought of was [name]Emily[/name] because it has the M.L. sound in it. [name]Emeline[/name] or any [name]Em[/name] name would also work. I think if your sister likes the name [name]Kaylee[/name] [name]Renee[/name], it would be nice to honor her with the name she loves. You could also use [name]Katherine[/name] and call her [name]Kay[/name], or use [name]Renee[/name] for a first name. Good luck!

There have already been a lot of good M names suggested so I;ll suggest some different names.

[name]Charlie[/name], [name]Jasper[/name], and…
Magaret “[name]Margo[/name]” or “[name]Greta[/name]”

HTH and good luck

Congratulations, on both babies! With [name]Charles[/name] and [name]Jasper[/name], I think you should go with something vintage.

If you want to use M.L. initials, here are some ideas:

Here are some combo names for you:

[name]Matilda[/name] [name]Lucy[/name]
[name]Margaret[/name] [name]Laura[/name]
[name]Margo[/name] [name]Lillian[/name]
[name]Madeleine[/name] [name]Lucille[/name]
[name]Mary[/name] [name]Lydia[/name]
[name]Maria[/name] [name]Laurel[/name]
[name]Mirabelle[/name] [name]Lenore[/name]

Or, a K.R. name might be nice. [name]Katharine[/name] is a natural choice for a classic K name, and you could call her [name]Kate[/name], [name]Katie[/name], or the very vintage [name]Kitty[/name]. [name]Katharine[/name] [name]Rebecca[/name] would be pretty…

[name]Lemon[/name]

What a great sister you are! And how exciting to be adopting a little girl  I think that [name]Charles[/name] and [name]Jasper[/name] have a classic-vintage feel, so a name they has a similar vibe would be nice.

[name]How[/name] about…

[name]Matilda[/name] [name]Lucy[/name] (love this one!)
[name]Margaret[/name] [name]Lydia[/name]
[name]Maeve[/name] [name]Louise[/name]
[name]Miranda[/name] [name]Lillian[/name]
[name]Marion[/name] [name]Louise[/name]
[name]Magnolia[/name] [name]Lucy[/name]
[name]Margo[/name] [name]Lucinda[/name]

*[name]Lemon[/name] must have been reading my mind as I was writing!

[name]Matilda[/name] [name]Lily[/name]
[name]Marion[/name] [name]Louise[/name]
[name]Meagan[/name] [name]Lila[/name]

Our maybe her initails backwards??
[name]Lily[/name] [name]Mae[/name]
[name]Lily[/name] [name]Marie[/name]
[name]Lila[/name] [name]Michelle[/name]

Hey there after reading your post i thought of some of my favorite M names as well as agreeing with the other ladies with a vintage feel:

[name]Millicent[/name] (nn millie)
[name]Melodie[/name]/[name]Melody[/name] (not to vintage, but cute)

best of/ good luck!

I agree. Something vintage is definitely in order.
We definitely like the idea of M.L. initials, talked it over with my sister and she doesn’t mind the idea.
[name]Margaret[/name] nn [name]Maggie[/name] or [name]Margo[/name] is adorable
[name]Miriam[/name] nn [name]Miri[/name] is a family name
We also like [name]Mary[/name].
[name]Martha[/name] is cute, but reminds me too much of [name]Martha[/name] [name]Stewart[/name]. :frowning:
I like [name]Matilda[/name], my husband hates it with a passion. Says it reminds him too much of the movie.

Our last name is [name]Blackwell[/name], if this helps. I tend to bend the way I say names to “make” them sound good with our last name.

[name]Lucille[/name] and [name]Lucienne[/name] are both family names
[name]Laurel[/name] is my sister’s mn, so a diminutive of that would be good. Is [name]Lorelei[/name] too out there? We like it.

I very much appreciate the help. You are lifesavers!!

[name]How[/name] about:

[name]Mary[/name] [name]Lorelei[/name] [name]Blackwell[/name]

[name]Margaret[/name] [name]Lucille[/name] [name]Blackwell[/name]

[name]Miriam[/name] [name]Laura[/name] [name]Blackwell[/name]

I really love [name]Mary[/name] [name]Lorelei[/name]. I like the sweetness of [name]Mary[/name] next to the more spunky [name]Lorelei[/name]. Great combo!

Oh, [name]Blackwell[/name]? Why does everyone here have such great last names! I love that - it fits perfectly with the vintage theme you’ve got going on…

I’d personally do a three-syllable first name with a two-syllable middle name, or vice versa. I love [name]Miriam[/name] with [name]Jasper[/name], but it feels a bit Biblical, honestly. I think [name]Margaret[/name] “[name]Maggie[/name]” and [name]Mary[/name] are great names, and I totally concur about the [name]Martha[/name] [name]Stewart[/name] issue. So, I’d choose [name]Margaret[/name] or [name]Mary[/name]!

[name]Margaret[/name] [name]Laura[/name] [name]Blackwell[/name]
[name]Margaret[/name] [name]Lucy[/name] [name]Blackwell[/name]

[name]Mary[/name] [name]Laura[/name] [name]Blackwell[/name] - This could be a double name!
[name]Mary[/name] [name]Lillian[/name] [name]Blackwell[/name]
[name]Mary[/name] [name]Lucienne[/name] [name]Blackwell[/name] - [name]Love[/name] the name, but it isn’t very vintage.

I honestly do think [name]Lorelei[/name] might be a bit off, style-wise, with your names. And, I don’t much care for the flow of [name]Lucille[/name] [name]Blackwell[/name], myself. Have you considered switching the initials to the reverse, L.M.?

[name]Lucy[/name] [name]Margaret[/name] [name]Blackwell[/name]
[name]Lucy[/name] [name]Miriam[/name] [name]Blackwell[/name] - Oh, love this!

[name]Laura[/name] [name]Margaret[/name] [name]Blackwell[/name]
[name]Laura[/name] [name]Miriam[/name] [name]Blackwell[/name]

[name]Lemon[/name]

Adopting your sister’s child is so honorable. Congrats.

If you’re going with a first name that starts with M, I agree with [name]Lemon[/name]… either [name]Margaret[/name] or [name]Mary[/name]. I think nn [name]Margo[/name] sounds cute with [name]Charlie[/name] and [name]Jasper[/name].

I really like [name]Lucy[/name] with your last name, too. Maybe you could flip the initials. [name]Lucy[/name] [name]Miriam[/name] [name]Blackwell[/name] is my favorite from [name]Lemon[/name].

Good luck!

My favorite “M” names have always been [name]Marina[/name] and [name]Marielle[/name],
what about [name]Marina[/name] Lilliane or [name]Marielle[/name] [name]Louise[/name]?

oops, just saw your last name is [name]Blackwell[/name], scratch [name]Marielle[/name] then!

[name]Charlie[/name], [name]Jasper[/name] and

I like the idea of finding a name with her initials M.L., but my first combo is

[name]Laurel[/name] [name]May[/name] I think that this is very pretty and even if the initials are the opposite way around it still honours your sister.

[name]Lorraine[/name] [name]Mary[/name] nn [name]Raine[/name]
[name]Lavinia[/name] [name]Mary[/name] nn [name]Vin[/name]
[name]Mary[/name] [name]Louise[/name] could be said as one name
[name]Meredith[/name] [name]Louise[/name] nn [name]Merry[/name]
[name]Lara[/name] [name]Melody[/name] Pretty
[name]Miriam[/name] [name]Leah[/name] Classic
[name]Moira[/name] [name]Lois[/name] Vintage
[name]Larissa[/name] [name]Maeve[/name] Pretty
[name]Mabel[/name] [name]Louise[/name] Vintage
[name]Margot[/name] [name]Lacey[/name] Interesting
[name]Marion[/name] [name]Lucille[/name] Nice

best wishes

We think we have it down to [name]Margaret[/name] or [name]Mary[/name]. Though my husband likes [name]Mamie[/name], just because its a diminutive of [name]Margaret[/name] OR [name]Mary[/name]. He said that way we wouldn’t have to choose. I’m not sure I get his logic but oh well. So we have to choose between:

We are leaning towards [name]Lucille[/name] as the middle name. My sister reminded me earlier that she’s never really liked her mn. But [name]Lorelei[/name] is okay. Are there any other L names that sound like these two?

[name]Margaret[/name] [name]Lucille[/name]
[name]Mary[/name] [name]Lorelei[/name]

are for now our front runners. Not sure what mn goes best with [name]Mamie[/name].

I would go with [name]Margaret[/name] nn [name]Maisie[/name]

L mn;

[name]Margaret[/name] [name]Louise[/name] [name]Blackwell[/name]
[name]Margaret[/name] [name]Lillian[/name] [name]Blackwell[/name]
[name]Margaret[/name] [name]Lauren[/name] [name]Blackwell[/name]
[name]Margaret[/name] [name]Laura[/name] [name]Blackwell[/name]
[name]Margaret[/name] [name]Lily[/name] [name]Blackwell[/name]
[name]Margaret[/name] [name]Louisa[/name] [name]Blackwell[/name]
[name]Margaret[/name] [name]Leni[/name] [name]Blackwell[/name]
[name]Margaret[/name] [name]Lenore[/name] [name]Blackwell[/name]
[name]Margaret[/name] [name]Loretta[/name] [name]Blackwell[/name]
[name]Margaret[/name] [name]Lizzie[/name] [name]Blackwell[/name]
[name]Margaret[/name] [name]Libby[/name] [name]Blackwell[/name]

What do you think?

My sister’s second name is [name]Lucille[/name] and my second name is [name]Margot[/name] so I am going out on a limb here and I am going to suggest

[name]Margot[/name] [name]Lucille[/name] [name]Blackwell[/name]

maybe it would be better if you call the baby as she wants, it’s the same as you were calling her in your sister’s honour or you may give her first name as your sister wants and the second would be your sister name.

I love [name]Margaret[/name] and will age very well.

I like [name]Luciana[/name] more than [name]Lucille[/name].

With [name]Margaret[/name] being such a strong name, I like the idea of having a slightly more frilly mn. [name]Luciana[/name] I think fits that bill.

Good luck!!

[name]Charles[/name], [name]Jasper[/name] and…
I think that [name]Margaret[/name] is great, may I suggest [name]Marguerite[/name]? a little bit fresher sounding, I think

Here are some other M names

[name]Mallory[/name](nn [name]Mally[/name])

L names

I hope all goes well
