My husband and I are torn between two names for our third baby: [name]Anders[/name] and [name]Finn[/name]. We have two older children, [name]Heidi[/name] and [name]Rhys[/name].
[name]Anders[/name] would most likely be [name]Anders[/name] [name]Benjamin[/name], and [name]Finn[/name] is currently lacking a suitable middle name. I’m just having a hard time fully committing to one or the other because of certain characteristics about each.
[name]Finn[/name]-- While I love the way it sounds and the way it seems to pair well with [name]Rhys[/name] and [name]Heidi[/name], it seems the slightest bit incomplete. Since my husband and I don’t like [name]Finnegan[/name], [name]Finnian[/name], [name]Finley[/name] or any other [name]Finn[/name]- variation, that would be his given name. This was originally my first choice, so I do have a real soft spot for it.
[name]Anders[/name]-- I have a terrible fear that we won’t be able to stop people from eventually calling him [name]Andy[/name]. Oh, the thought of it is enough to make me want to hide this name away and never use it. However, I love it. I think it’s such a cool name. I feel like it’s something you need to really own, but once you do, you can really rock it. Some people have said it sounds nicknamey for [name]Andrew[/name].
With the name [name]Anders[/name], [name]Andy[/name] is a name that he would most likely be called at some point in time, and he might decide to be called that on his own. So, if you don’t like the name [name]Andy[/name], [name]Anders[/name] is not the best choice. [name]Finn[/name] does sound kind of nicknamey, but it does have the potential to stand on it’s own. Out of the two, I like [name]Finn[/name] best. Have you ever thought of [name]Flynn[/name]? It sounds a lot like [name]Finn[/name], but sounds more complete to me. [name]Finn[/name] can also be a nickname for [name]Flynn[/name]. As for middle names, I’ve always liked how [name]Finn[/name] [name]Alexander[/name] and [name]Finn[/name] [name]Tobias[/name] sound.
I personally like [name]Anders[/name] better but they are both go really well with you other children! I think that [name]Anders[/name] has a bit more of a European feel to go along with [name]Heidi[/name] and [name]Rhys[/name] and feels more complete as a name. I completely agree with your aversion to [name]Andy[/name] and another nickname for [name]Anders[/name] which I have heard from Workaholics on Comedy Central is Ders. Ders to me is weird but sort of cute in an awkward way if that makes any sense.
I like [name]Anders[/name] a lot and I love [name]Flynn[/name] but not [name]Finn[/name], if you chose [name]Flynn[/name] I suggest [name]Flynn[/name] [name]Anderson[/name] as a combo.
If you want another suggestion for a son named [name]Flynn[/name], then I like [name]Flynn[/name] [name]Eric[/name] and I think that [name]Eric[/name] and [name]Heidi[/name] work well together.
If you are looking for another boys name then [name]Owen[/name] would fit beautifully, [name]Owen[/name], [name]Heidi[/name] and [name]Rhys[/name].
I think that [name]Anders[/name] would probably end up with the nn of [name]Andy[/name] unfortunately.
Are you a nickname-type of person? I could never see myself calling a son of mine named [name]Anders[/name] by his full name on a regular basis. It’s a cool name, it just sounds a little too formal to me, and I would definitely gravitate toward [name]Andy[/name].
[name]Finn[/name] is getting pretty trendy, if that’s something you consider when picking a name. But, of the two, I do find it more usable than [name]Anders[/name]. I like pp’s suggestion of [name]Finn[/name] [name]Anderson[/name]. If you really wanted to, you could even still call him [name]Anders[/name] with that name.
I prefer [name]Finn[/name] to [name]Anders[/name] 100%. I think it fits better with [name]Heidi[/name] and [name]Rhys[/name]. I just… [name]Don[/name]'t like [name]Anders[/name] much at all and the only [name]Andy[/name] I know it kind of a jerk I’m sorry if this is a bit forward, haha. I just think [name]Finn[/name] is pretty awesome and [name]Anders[/name] doesn’t have the same feel.
I like both [name]Anders[/name] and [name]Finn[/name] a lot but I think [name]Anders[/name] goes better with [name]Heidi[/name] and [name]Rhys[/name]. I don’t think you have to worry a lot about being called [name]Andy[/name]. I personally pronounce [name]Anders[/name] as Ahn-ders, to my ears [name]Andy[/name] has a very different beginning pronunciation and I wouldn’t arrive there from [name]Anders[/name].
I like both [name]Anders[/name] and [name]Finn[/name] - my suggestion is to go with [name]Flynn[/name] instead, as it sounds and looks more “complete.” [name]Flynn[/name] [name]Anders[/name] would be very handsome!
I like both of them. I think [name]Anders[/name] maybe fits with [name]Heidi[/name] and [name]Rhys[/name] a bit better, but I know a [name]Heidi[/name] & [name]Anders[/name] who are siblings so that might be why.
I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Finn[/name]! It fits beautifully with [name]Heidi[/name] and [name]Rhys[/name] and it doesn’t sound incomplete to me at all. However, if it does sound too incomplete for you, have you thought about using [name]Phineas[/name] and [name]Finn[/name] as a nn?
I have to say that I love [name]Finn[/name] more than I love [name]Anders[/name]. I personally feel that [name]Finn[/name] can work really well on its own. [name]Flynn[/name] could also work really well with [name]Heidi[/name] and [name]Rhys[/name].
[name]Bree[/name]
I think [name]Finn[/name] is the best pick for you because. [name]Anders[/name] could choose to go by [name]Andy[/name] and if you don’t want that you shouldn’t name him anything starting with ‘And.’ I do think [name]Finn[/name] is incomplete personally but, since you don’t like any other combo It’s not the end of the world. I would use something like [name]Finn[/name] [name]Alexander[/name], [name]Finn[/name] [name]Samuel[/name], [name]Finn[/name] [name]Christopher[/name].
I like [name]Finn[/name] a ton more - I am from Denmark, and [name]Anders[/name] here is a name that was used a lot in the 80s, kinda like [name]Justin[/name] in the US, so it feels dated. [name]Finn[/name] is just about to make a comeback, I think.
This is a tough one. [name]Anders[/name] goes with [name]Heidi[/name] and [name]Finn[/name] is a better “fit” with [name]Rhys[/name]. I’m going to have to go with [name]Finn[/name] for one reason: I don’t like the two boys names ending in an “s”.
I like both and I adore the combo of [name]Anders[/name] [name]Benjamin[/name] however…I do think [name]Andy[/name] is inevitable. I think [name]Finn[/name] is slightly more useable and for the reason, it gets my vote!
[name]Anders[/name]. Definitely go with [name]Anders[/name]. [name]One[/name] of my bestest friends on the entire planet is named [name]Anders[/name] and he is an amazing son of a gun.
I like [name]Finn[/name]. It’s cute <3 The sibset of Heidi, Rhys, and Finn is adorable! Though I would be afraid of him being asked ‘full name’ in future job applications or something along that line, but at least to me, Finn doesn’t sound incomplete.
Not a fan of Anders, considering it isn’t my style. Anders, Heidi, Rhys, doesn’t sound as good as Finn in my opinion.
