Wesley pronunciation

Hello!

[name_m]How[/name_m] do you pronounce [name_m]Wesley[/name_m]?

[name_m]Wesley[/name_m] or [name_m]Wezley[/name_m]?

Please let me know where you are from. Thank you!

I’m from Kentucky and I say [name_m]Wess[/name_m]-lee. [name_m]Wes[/name_m] as a nn I say with a soft ‘s’ as well. Never been a fan of Wezz-lee but love [name_m]Wess[/name_m]-lee.

I am also from Kentucky and I pronounce it both ways. [name_m]Just[/name_m] depends on whether I’m being particularly lazy as [name_m]Wezley[/name_m] comes out when I don’t take the time to pronounce the ‘s’ properly. I’d say I pronounce it as [name_m]Wesley[/name_m] more often than [name_m]Wezley[/name_m], though.

I say it like ‘[name_m]Wezley[/name_m]’. I’m English.

I am in the midwestern US, and I pronounce it as [name_m]Wesley[/name_m], with the ss sound. I love this name!

I say Wezz-ley, but had never really thought about my pronunciation of it - I’m from the UK and have a slight lisp, which might impact it.

[name_u]Utah[/name_u], I pronounce it [name_m]Wess[/name_m]-ley. I love it!

I’m from Oklahoma and I pronounce it [name_m]Wess[/name_m]-ley. This is my favorite boys name! I love it!

I’m from Kansas and I say [name_m]WESS[/name_m]-ley.

I’m from Midwestern US and usually say “[name_m]Wess[/name_m]-ley.” I do know a few men/boys who use the Wezz-ley pronunciation, though, so it is a bit of a toss up when first meeting one.

I’m from [name_m]Washington[/name_m] D.C. and I pronounce it [name_m]Wess[/name_m]-lee. I like it much better with the soft ‘s’ sound. I remember watching [name_f]Buffy[/name_f] and being surprised that the English character pronounced it Wezz-lee! [name_m]Wess[/name_m]-lee sounds much sweeter and softer to me. I love the name.

^ Exactly this.

[name_m]Wesley[/name_m] (with the s sound, not the z)

I say it with the s sound, but I hear the z pronunciation a lot too. I’m in [name_f]Alabama[/name_f].

I’m Australian and I pronounce it [name_m]Wezley[/name_m].

I’m from the [name_m]Pacific[/name_m] Northwest in the US and I say wess-lee!

Sounds like people in the US prefer [name_m]Wessley[/name_m]. In the UK it’s definitely [name_m]Wezley[/name_m]. I’m from [name_f]England[/name_f] and would never even have considered pronouncing it with an unvoiced s. To me, according to orthographic conventions it would need a double s to suggest that sound.

I’m American but have lived in the UK a long time.

When I see [name_m]Wesley[/name_m] on its own I tend to say it [name_m]Wess[/name_m]-ley. But for [name_m]Wesley[/name_m] Snipes, I say Wezz-ley Snipes for some reason lol. Both pronunciations sound good to me tbh.

And [name_m]Wes[/name_m] for me is [name_m]Wess[/name_m], not Wezz.

I’m from [name_u]Texas[/name_u] and my first instinct is Wezly, but might make it Wessly if I was thinking about it too hard, ha!

I’m from [name_f]Canada[/name_f] and although I’ve definitely heard it said both ways, I’d always say [name_m]Wess[/name_m]-ley.
