I’m having our second daughter in [name_u]June[/name_u] and we’ve decided on the name [name_f]Isolde[/name_f] - but we can’t agree on any middle names! I like a variety of different things, and my partner is… well, not at the same sense of urgency as me yet. Here are a few of my favourites (with his reaction in brackets):
[name_f]Isolde[/name_f] [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] (“urgh”)
[name_f]Isolde[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] (“too normal”)
[name_f]Isolde[/name_f] [name_f]Fay[/name_f] (“too medieval”)
[name_f]Isolde[/name_f] [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] ("[name_f]Hermione[/name_f] has all the same consonants as our surname")
Any suggestions I can throw at him? My name is [name_f]Francesca[/name_f] [name_f]Lily[/name_f], and our firstborn is [name_f]Nellie[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]. Surname starts with an H and ends in an -an sound. (To give you more sense of our style, if [name_f]Isolde[/name_f] arrives and turns out to be a boy, her name will be [name_m]Percival[/name_m] [name_m]Gerard[/name_m] [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] - both middle names are family names - called [name_u]Percy[/name_u]. There are no good family names for girls on either side.)
Also, what about a nickname? [name_u]Izzy[/name_u] seems obvious, but we are really close to my sister [name_f]Ysabella[/name_f] (emotionally and geographically), who goes by Ysy (pronounced like [name_u]Izzy[/name_u]). Would Izo be weird? I kind of like [name_f]Posy[/name_f], especially if we had a middle name beginning with P, but I haven’t come across any nice P names that fit our style yet.
And finally, any suggestions for back up names in case [name_f]Isolde[/name_f] doesn’t look like an [name_f]Isolde[/name_f] when she’s born?
I really love Isolde - great choice! Personally, I like Isolde Genevieve, but “urgh” doesn’t sound terribly positive so best move on…
Sounds like you have a very classic/Classical style. Suggestions:
Isolde Elinor
Isolde Maebh/Maeve
Isolde Juliet
Isolde Florence
Isolde Ffion
Isolde Vivien
Isolde Evelyn
Isolde Liv
Isolde Peony
Isolde Plum
Isolde Annick
Isolde Miri
Isolde Elise
Isolde Beatrix/Beatrice
Isolde Rue
Isolde Thais
Isolde Aveline
Isolde Marion
And I think Izo/Iso is perfect as a nickname - I’d use Iso for sure!
It’s hard to come up with alternatives to such a gorgeous name, but maybe something like: Cicely, Beatrix, Hestia, Esther, Junia, Lorelei, Calliope, Portia, Ariadne or Ceridwen?
[name_m]Just[/name_m] in case alternatives:
[name_f]Theadora[/name_f]
[name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f]
[name_u]Vivian[/name_u]
[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]
[name_f]Isadora[/name_f]
[name_f]Maude[/name_f]
I like the idea of continuing the floral middle name theme. personally I prefer [name_f]Isolde[/name_f] without any nickname.
Other suggestions for back up:
[name_f]Freya[/name_f]
[name_f]Delphine[/name_f]
[name_f]Elysia[/name_f]
[name_f]Astrid[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucia[/name_f]
[name_f]Odette[/name_f]
[name_f]Nerissa[/name_f]
I’ve found [name_f]Isolde[/name_f] works ridiculously well (in my opinion) with [name_f]Elowen[/name_f]
[name_f]Isolde[/name_f] [name_f]Elowen[/name_f]
[name_m]Just[/name_m] another idea for you
(Also. The nickname I will be using in the future for [name_f]Isolde[/name_f] is Sola which you should definitely use. It’s part of the name, it’s distinct enough from your sisters name and [name_f]Nellie[/name_f] and Sola sound cute together If you like it of course )
