What about the name Guy? Middle names?

So originally I was very set on finding a [name_m]German[/name_m] boy name, but so far I haven’t came across anything that I absolutely love. My husband likes [name_m]Walter[/name_m] and [name_m]George[/name_m], and I like [name_m]Walter[/name_m], but I feel like it’s a bit lackluster with my daughter’s name.

Our first little one is named [name_f]Greta[/name_f], and I have been trying to find something that has a similar sweet and spunky sound. I finally came across the name [name_m]Guy[/name_m] a couple weeks ago and have been thinking about it ever since! I think it sounds pretty cute? Am I crazy? It doesn’t seem very popular from what I have been able to find, which is fine with me as it still should be fairly easy to say/spell, etc.

Any other suggestions for fun names that go with [name_f]Greta[/name_f]? Our last name is one syllable and basically sounds like trunk.

What middle name would you consider for [name_m]Guy[/name_m]? I am thinking the middle name probably should have more syllables since [name_m]Guy[/name_m] has one syllable and our last name has only one syllable? Thoughts?

I love the name [name_m]Guy[/name_m]. I love its meaning and that strong I sound seems to be fashionable lately. I feel like it is a very underused name.

I like [name_m]Guy[/name_m]! I know one person named [name_m]Guy[/name_m], a man in his early 30’s. If you are looking for [name_m]German[/name_m] names to go with [name_f]Greta[/name_f] there’s also [name_u]Kai[/name_u]. It has a lot of usage in Germany and sounds a LOT like [name_m]Guy[/name_m]!

I love [name_m]Guy[/name_m]!

[name_m]Guy[/name_m] [name_m]Walter[/name_m]? [name_m]Guy[/name_m] [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m]? [name_m]Guy[/name_m] [name_m]Theodore[/name_m]?

I very strongly dislike this name. Please don’t call the kid guy… It sounds like the phrase “that guy” basically meaning that person who I don’t know the name of. So to me, if I met someone named guy, it would seem like the parents couldn’t think of a name. One of my pregnant friends used to call her bump “my little guy” before she found a name for him… go figure. I agree with the second poster, [name_u]Kai[/name_u]/[name_u]Kye[/name_u] is a better name. Call the kid that instead. xx

[name_u]Kai[/name_u] is cute, but [name_m]Guy[/name_m] has a strong, masculine feel to it that you can’t go wrong with!

Personally I think I’d go with it as a middle name…maybe [name_m]Harrison[/name_m] [name_m]Guy[/name_m]. That would sound better with your one syllable surname as well…in my opinion anyway!

I’m really not a fan of [name_m]Guy[/name_m] to be honest. It seems weird for a person’s actual name to be that when it’s a popular slang term. There’s also just something about it…I picture a too-cool guy slicking back his greasy hair.

I’m wondering how everyone is saying [name_m]Guy[/name_m]? Because of my time in [name_m]French[/name_m] class, I say it like GHEE, which is the [name_m]French[/name_m] pronunciation, but is it traditionally said like [name_m]Guy[/name_m] in the US? I do like [name_m]Guy[/name_m] quite a bit, but I don’t like the [name_m]GYE[/name_m] pronunciation. I think I saw someone suggest [name_m]Guy[/name_m] [name_m]Theodore[/name_m], and I like that combo a lot. If all the comments about [name_m]Guy[/name_m] are getting to you, I agree that [name_u]Kai[/name_u] is a good alternative, or even [name_m]Gaius[/name_m]/[name_m]Caius[/name_m] ([name_m]Guy[/name_m]-us; kai-us).

A few combo ideas, if you do still love [name_m]Guy[/name_m]:

[name_m]Guy[/name_m] [name_m]Emilian[/name_m] (one of my first ideas, although I don’t know why. I do quite like it, though)
[name_m]Guy[/name_m] [name_m]Vincent[/name_m]
[name_m]Guy[/name_m] [name_m]Julian[/name_m]
[name_m]Guy[/name_m] Hammitt (not sure why, but I love this!)
[name_m]Guy[/name_m] [name_u]Elliot[/name_u]
[name_m]Guy[/name_m] [name_m]Daniel[/name_m]
[name_m]Guy[/name_m] [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m]
[name_m]Guy[/name_m] [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m]
[name_m]Guy[/name_m] [name_m]Arnold[/name_m]
[name_m]Guy[/name_m] [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m]
[name_m]Guy[/name_m] [name_m]Edward[/name_m]

Good luck!

[name_m]Guy[/name_m] is a huge family name for me! Lots of generations have had a [name_m]Gaetano[/name_m] or [name_f]Gaetana[/name_f], and the latest gens have had [name_m]Guy[/name_m].

We’ve used [name_m]Guy[/name_m] [name_m]Anthony[/name_m], mostly.

It’s pronounced like [name_m]GYE[/name_m], just like we’d say “that guy”. It sounds like it’s the same in [name_f]England[/name_f] too. See here

Here in the US it’s definitely pronounced [name_m]GYE[/name_m] - no one here would pronounce [name_m]GUY[/name_m] as GHEE unfortunately, so you would have to constantly be correcting everyone.

I very much dislike [name_u]Kai[/name_u], so even though it sounds similar it definitely isn’t making the list. I thought about [name_m]Gaius[/name_m], but I think it has the issue that hardly anyone would know how to pronounce it and it probably would end up being pronounced [name_u]GAY[/name_u]-US often…so I’ll steer clear of that as well :-/

I still do like [name_m]Guy[/name_m] ([name_m]GYE[/name_m]) though, so it will at least be considered. :-/

I’m not a fan, sorry. I find it an odd sounding word as a name. Also, unlike other “word” names like seasons, flowers, colours, etc, which have often ethereal and beautiful meanings, [name_m]Guy[/name_m] falls flat and sounds… I don’t know how to describe it… unconsidered. [name_m]Just[/name_m] “a guy”. shrugs

Also, the [name_m]French[/name_m] pronunciation is “gee” (like, geese) which turns me off even further!
