What are some commonly-hated names you love? And what popular names do you despise?

For my first question, I love Patch (It was on a Worst Names list) and Ethelreda.

I’m starting to like it, but for a long time I thought [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] was awful. I also can’t stand Faustina.

UPDATE: I just found out a detail of Nevaeh that makes it…well, not so good, so I’m removing it…

I like [name_f]Neveah[/name_f] Or Naveya i think its really nice! and at first didn’t associate it with being heaven backwards!! lol

Patch isnt that badd i’d say more of a middle name imo it also reminds me of 1 of the puppies names from 101 dalmations… [he was soo cute]

I also liked Ilithyia…
Ummm [name_f]Amethyst[/name_f] has been given bad feedback
Ohh and to top has to be [name_f]Arizona[/name_f]… NO-[name_f]ONE[/name_f] likes that name…
lilith - a demon name…
there are many of my names that others dont like… but i do… and much more that this lil list… lol xx

My own childrens names when said about on here have been called chavy!! ( Im no chav believe you me…!- So was utterly well astoundingly insulted)

I love the name [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] for a girl, despite its heavy [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] connection. I also have a crush on the name [name_u]Ever[/name_u], but most people find it too weird.

I absolutely loathe the names [name_f]Ava[/name_f] and [name_f]Aria[/name_f]. So many people drool over these names but I can’t stand them.

I despise [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] & [name_u]Toby[/name_u] (the names, not the children), dislike [name_f]Nora[/name_f] & [name_f]Cora[/name_f], [name_f]Emma[/name_f], [name_f]Ella[/name_f], [name_f]Anna[/name_f], [name_f]Mable[/name_f], and most especially [name_f]Hazel[/name_f]. I love [name_f]Lucrezia[/name_f]/Lucrece, [name_f]Godiva[/name_f] (though I wouldn’t be courageous enough to use it), and [name_f]Isolda[/name_f].

I like [name_u]Sailor[/name_u], [name_m]Waldo[/name_m], [name_f]Winifred[/name_f], [name_f]Mabel[/name_f], [name_m]Balthazar[/name_m], [name_f]Columbine[/name_f], [name_m]Sylvester[/name_m], [name_u]Hero[/name_u], [name_m]Oswin[/name_m], [name_f]Elektra[/name_f], [name_f]Mavis[/name_f], [name_m]Rainer[/name_m], [name_m]Darwin[/name_m], [name_u]Zephyr[/name_u], [name_f]Harriet[/name_f], [name_u]Wallace[/name_u], [name_u]Roscoe[/name_u], [name_m]Dashiell[/name_m], [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], [name_f]Polly[/name_f], [name_f]Ursula[/name_f], [name_u]Valentine[/name_u], [name_m]Dov[/name_m], [name_m]Luther[/name_m], [name_m]Thaddeus[/name_m], [name_m]Pilot[/name_m], Solace, [name_f]Quintana[/name_f], [name_u]Jean[/name_u], [name_m]Merlin[/name_m], [name_f]Marigold[/name_f], [name_f]Fay[/name_f], [name_f]Hester[/name_f]/Hesper, [name_m]Walter[/name_m], [name_f]Marjorie[/name_f], and [name_m]Baxter[/name_m].

I hate syllable mix n’ match names and boys’ names on girls.

I love [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u], [name_f]Nevaeh[/name_f], [name_u]Ever[/name_u], and [name_m]Caledon[/name_m] which have all gotten bad reactions from people

I hate:
Trendy and popular names like: [name_m]Jasper[/name_m], [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f], [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f], [name_u]Jaden[/name_u]/[name_m]Braden[/name_m]/[name_m]Caden[/name_m] etc…
Old names like: [name_f]Clementine[/name_f], [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], [name_f]Mabel[/name_f], [name_f]Hazel[/name_f], [name_m]Henry[/name_m], [name_m]George[/name_m], [name_m]Walter[/name_m] etc…

I like Patch as a spunky nickname for [name_m]Patrick[/name_m].

I don’t like [name_f]Hazel[/name_f], [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] and [name_u]August[/name_u]/us at all, all of which seem to get a lot of love on here.

I love [name_f]Agnes[/name_f] and [name_f]Agatha[/name_f] is warming up on me. I pretty much love old lady names.
I am not a fan of the name [name_f]Violet[/name_f]. It is one letter away from the word violent, and it wouldn’t be hard to slip up on the pronunciation and accidentally make it sound like that.
I also hate -aden boy names. They are trendy and terrible.
I do NOT like boyish sounding names on girls. No no no no no.

Well, I also can’t stand [name_m]Jasper[/name_m]–it sounds like a boy who would bully other kids but be prim and sanctimonious with adults to me. [name_m]Declan[/name_m] I think sounds harsh and awkward. [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] and [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] seem coarse and awful to my ear, and I can’t wrap my head around [name_f]Circe[/name_f]. A witch who turned men into pigs might be a witty namesake for a stripper, but for a little girl? Mystifying.

Names I love that other people hate? Tesla and [name_m]Cadmus[/name_m] are our top contenders if our baby (due in [name_f]April[/name_f]) is a boy, and we haven’t gotten good responses from anyone on those. I agree that [name_f]Nevaeh[/name_f] is pretty, by the way.

@vasilisa I feel the same way about [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] and [name_f]Circe[/name_f].
I don’t get [name_f]Imogen[/name_f], [name_u]Sloane[/name_u], or [name_f]Daphne[/name_f].
I love [name_u]Ever[/name_u] which everyone i know thinks is bad and [name_f]Edith[/name_f].
I also adore [name_m]Cecil[/name_m] and [name_m]Eugene[/name_m] and lotr names which nobody else likes at all

@gummibear, [name_f]Edith[/name_f] and [name_m]Cecil[/name_m] would be great together! I agree that [name_u]Sloane[/name_u] is awful, slimy-sounding, but [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] has the great association of [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] Cunningham.

If you ask me 3 days ago i would say that i hate Nevaeh but right know its one of my favorite name . I really dont get the religious problems . Others i really love Hermione , Baltazar , Amadeus , Morpheus , Prometheus , Wolfgand , Hunter ( pretty much i love all er names ) , Ever ( sooo beautiful ) , Sailor , Hero , Psyche , Renesmee ( What can i say ! ) , Lancelot , Romeo , Aidan

Names i dont like

super kreative names ( I dont really mind Alyson but i despise names like Earaon )
very old fashioned names exp. Mabel
names ended in dan / den with the exception of Aidan / Aiden
The name Sloane ( i dont know why ) , Lila / Lyla , Vivian ( althought i love Vivienne ) , Cecily ( althought i love Cecilia ) , Circe

I adore [name_f]Imogen[/name_f], I can’t figure out what it is that others hate about it.

I hate the name [name_u]Sloane[/name_u]; I can’t find a single redeeming quality in it, and I feel like I hear it more and more often these days. I can’t get behind [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] on a girl, either. The only [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] I know is a boy, and the only girl [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] I’ve heard of is the bratty cheerleader character from Glee. I don’t watch the show, but I’ve seen gifs and have caught snippets of it while channel flipping and either I’m missing a large chunk of her character or she’s a horrible person.

I don’t hate [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] or Willhelmina because I can at least understand that they appeal to some people, and I like that they’re legitimate girl names with a history behind them, but for the life of me I can’t figure out what anyone sees in them. They’re names I only associate with Nameberry, so if I met one in real life I’d HAVE to ask the mom if she was a member here.

I love [name_f]Agnes[/name_f], and that generally gets a terrible wrap outside of Nameberry. I also like [name_u]Bentley[/name_u], and that’s super trendy and yeah, awful. I still like it, though. I think [name_u]Bentley[/name_u] nn [name_m]Ben[/name_m] is adorable. Too bad it’s so trendtacular.

[name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] doesn’t get a lot of love on here, either, but I adore that.

And I can imagine that [name_f]Edith[/name_f] wouldn’t get a lot of love outside of Nameberry, but I adore that, too. I would [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] to have two girls named [name_f]Agnes[/name_f] and [name_f]Edith[/name_f].

I’ve always thought that [name_f]Nevaeh[/name_f] actually sounded quite nice, based on phonetics alone (I’ve never met one in real life, but in my head I pronounce it like [name_f]Niamh[/name_f]/[name_f]Neve[/name_f] with an ‘a’ on the end). It’s the ‘heaven spelt backwards’ thing that put me off. I wouldn’t call a child [name_f]Heaven[/name_f], so [name_f]Nevaeh[/name_f] is out too.

Names I love that not many others do are; [name_f]Hester[/name_f], [name_u]Damaris[/name_u], [name_m]Bertram[/name_m], [name_m]Jago[/name_m], [name_m]Hamish[/name_m]. I also quite like [name_u]Hayden[/name_u] & [name_u]Aidan[/name_u], which don’t really count as they are pretty popular in real life, but don’t go down well at all on many naming forums.

Popular names that I can’t get on board with are; [name_m]Jack[/name_m], overly cute names M-ie names ([name_f]Maisie[/name_f], [name_f]Millie[/name_f], [name_f]Mollie[/name_f]), and the Nameberry favourite [name_f]Clementine[/name_f].

I love [name_m]Cecil[/name_m], too! I know it’s not popular, but I also despise [name_f]Faustina[/name_f]–it reminds me of a tropical bird, and not the beautiful kind! I would never never never use it on a kid, but Nip and Lemony are cute and I’d love reading about fictional characters by those names.

[name_f]One[/name_f] of my favorites is [name_m]Moses[/name_m]. Also I love [name_f]Rainbow[/name_f] for a little girl, and am a fan of some boy names besides the traditional unisex ones on girls. As for popular names I don’t like, [name_f]Niamh[/name_f], Caiomh, Saiorse, etc. [name_m]NOONE[/name_m] IN AN ENGLISH SPEAKING COUNTRIES [name_m]WILL[/name_m] BE [name_m]ABLE[/name_m] TO PRONOUNCE OR SPELL THOSE. PLEASE [name_m]DON[/name_m]'T NAME YOUR CHILD [name_f]ONE[/name_f] OF THOSE UNLESS YOU LIVE IN [name_f]IRELAND[/name_f]. Also just on a personal level I really hate [name_f]Isla[/name_f] (Which I initially thought was pronounced Is-La until I heard someone say it out loud) and honestly don’t think it will be as eadily pronounced in [name_u]America[/name_u] as some people think.

^ if Americans can pronounce “island” i think its reasonable to assume they can figure out [name_f]Isla[/name_f].

I despise annoying Scrabble names that parents make up. It’s annoying. [name_f]Do[/name_f] they ever think that their kid may need a job some day? If I can’t take your name seriously, I can’t take YOU seriously. I won’t be calling “Tyffannie” for a job interview. Sorry. I also hate the name [name_m]Jasper[/name_m]. It sounds like a country-hick cowboy. (I also have a bad association with the name. I went to elementary school in the 80’s with a [name_m]Jasper[/name_m]. He was weird. Later in life- after high school he shook his baby daughter to death and it was all over our local newspaper. Soooo, the name creeps me out for obvious reasons.)

I don’t know if these names are commonly hated or just weird but I love [name_u]Echo[/name_u] and [name_f]Pixie[/name_f]!

As for popular names I cannot stand [name_f]Emily[/name_f], [name_f]Hannah[/name_f], [name_m]Thomas[/name_m], [name_m]Alexander[/name_m], [name_m]Daniel[/name_m], [name_m]Matthew[/name_m], [name_m]Michael[/name_m] and there’s probably others.
