What are some of the strangest names you remember from school?

I think for me the strangest were a pair of twins I went to high school with and their names were [name_u]James[/name_u] and…[name_m]Semaj[/name_m]. Yes [name_u]James[/name_u] spelled backwards I kid you not. I also went school with a girl named [name_f]Helena[/name_f] [name_m]Troy[/name_m], but you just can’t beat [name_u]James[/name_u] spelled backwards

Dusted off my yearbooks for this one!

I went to school with a few kids whose names inadvertently ended up sounding like product names- Think along the lines of a girl named [name_f]Mercedes[/name_f], last name Benz.

Also went to school with a few kids whose parents didn’t think how their name would sound with their last. Think along the lines of [name_m]Justin[/name_m] [name_m]Case[/name_m]. [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t give your kid the middle initial P if your last name is [name_m]Hart[/name_m]. No one will let them forget that their name looks like “fart” on paper.

Several kids I went to school with actually shared their names with celebrities. Yeah, I can say I met [name_u]Morgan[/name_u] [name_m]Freeman[/name_m]. [name_m]Just[/name_m] not that [name_u]Morgan[/name_u] [name_m]Freeman[/name_m].

I can’t give any actual examples without sounding like I’m mocking people with truly stand-out names, and I respect their anonymity.

The worst-- an exchange student one of my siblings went to school with. I’m sure her name would have been beautiful in her home country, but her first and last name together sounded very much like “pee on me.” Poor girl got mocked from here to next [name_f]Tuesday[/name_f].

Oh, twin names. Like [name_u]Taylor[/name_u] and [name_u]Tyler[/name_u]. Or [name_m]Kevin[/name_m] and [name_u]Devin[/name_u]. [name_u]Jan[/name_u] and [name_m]John[/name_m]. cringe Did their parents not realize they had two babies, who will have to prove to the world from the day they are born that they are actually two unique individuals?

I cannot remember the exact spellings but I knew a boy whose first, middle and last were all a form of [name_u]Kelly[/name_u]. Like [name_u]Kelley[/name_u] [name_f]Kellie[/name_f] [name_u]Kelly[/name_u]. I have no idea why someone would do that to their kid.

This is the worst. I think it’s up there with matchy-matchy twin names. At least twins will grow up and live their separate lives as the unique individuals they are.

Like [name_m]Daniel[/name_m] [name_m]Daniels[/name_m], or [name_m]Robert[/name_m] [name_m]Roberts[/name_m]? [name_m]Edwin[/name_m] Edwards? I’ve seen this before, however rarely, and I feel bad for the kid. Did the parents get so frustrated with finding a name that threw up their hands and decided, “Let’s turn our kid’s name into a joke!” …?

I saw someone mention on another forum thread, sisters [name_u]June[/name_u], [name_u]Jean[/name_u], [name_f]Joan[/name_f], and [name_f]Jane[/name_f]. Ouch.

I literally laughed out loud at some of those names, rowgeesee!

Most of the names in my (very, VERY small) school were pretty ordinary, but here are some interesting standouts from my yearbooks:

Isatta
[name_m]Jayson[/name_m] (is that Y really necessary?)
[name_f]Kaycee[/name_f]
[name_f]Tabitha[/name_f] (love it, but don’t see it very often)
Wanjiru
Noruelis
Sao
[name_f]Shaniya[/name_f]
[name_m]Omar[/name_m]
[name_u]Jael[/name_u]
Xaris
Kyralynn
Kemper
[name_m]Georges[/name_m]
Allycia
[name_m]Natan[/name_m]
[name_m]Aram[/name_m]
Marcalyn

Whew, alright, those are more strange names than I remembered! And most of those that are pretty out there are kids that are graduating high school in the next couple years (very young grade schoolers when I graduated!)

I know a [name_u]Marty[/name_u] Martinson. There are very many names at my school that are horribly made-up and/or misspelled, so I won’t even TRY to get into that. Maybe I will later if I have time.

I’m a high-school junior, so these names are all pretty “recent.”

Boys: Osmar, Jovanie, [name_m]Piotr[/name_m], Joquil, [name_u]Michal[/name_u], Marcin, [name_m]Bohdan[/name_m], [name_m]Cristobal[/name_m], [name_m]Kyler[/name_m]

Girls: Yubani, Theanna, Raizele ([name_m]Ry[/name_m]-Zull), [name_f]Avani[/name_f], [name_f]Beatriz[/name_f], [name_f]Araceli[/name_f], Anayeli, [name_f]Kinga[/name_f], [name_f]Mirna[/name_f], [name_f]Janae[/name_f], Nalleli

Anayeli… Um… how do you pronounce that?? I don’t want to say how I want to pronounce that.

I attended K-12 with a girl named [name_f]Ericka[/name_f] [name_m]Erickson[/name_m]. Really.

I also attended K-12 with a boy named [name_m]Obadiah[/name_m], which was a name you just didn’t hear in the 1980s/1990s. He went by “[name_m]Obe[/name_m],” pronounced Oh-BEEE. I don’t know if his parents were [name_f]Star[/name_f] Wars fans, but as you can imagine, [name_m]Obi[/name_m]-Wan Kenobi immediately came to mind.

Ha ha you went all out I love it! I forgot my friend was telling me about the eye doctor she used to go to named [name_f]Monica[/name_f] [name_f]Monica[/name_f]. I don’t think her parents even tried.

In my sister’s graduating class, there were over a dozen girls named [name_u]Unique[/name_u]. Or Youneek. Or some horrendous mizspeling of unique. [name_m]How[/name_m] unique, that over a dozen girls had the name!

Kashmier (girl) (Has a sister named Jessica. lol)
Bartholomew
Tuff
Bernice
Mercedes (Went by Sadie)
Pascha (Pay-Shuh) (girl)
Yesenia
Amberleigh (Had never heard this name til I met her)
Gannon
Song
Billie (girl)
Sue-Ann

Not a classmate, but I know someone with the last name Karr… and they went ahead and named their son [name_m]Rayce[/name_m]. Yes, [name_m]Rayce[/name_m] Karr.

Haha, It’s actually [name_f]Ann[/name_f]-Eye-[name_f]Ellie[/name_f]. Not as bad as it looks, but still not nearly usable.

@haylie I think you deserve an award for that one.

@kate_elaine thank you for clearing that up. I like @rainbowbright908 didn’t want to attempt to pronounce it, but if I had to the first thing that rolled off my tongue was [name_f]Anna[/name_f]-Yell-E

One of the governors of [name_u]Texas[/name_u] [name_m]Jim[/name_m] Hogg named his daughter [name_f]Ima[/name_f]. [name_f]Ima[/name_f] Hogg.

[name_u]Noah[/name_u] [name_m]Howe[/name_m] - yes he got asked how to do things aallllllllllll the time lol. His brother’s name is [name_m]Andrew[/name_m]
[name_f]Tequila[/name_f] - sister is [name_f]Brandy[/name_f]
[name_f]Mandolin[/name_f] Frisbee - his actual first and last name, but he went by Malon may-lon
Desonage - she went by [name_m]Des[/name_m]. Her siblings are [name_u]Seth[/name_u], [name_f]Hannah[/name_f], and [name_f]Megan[/name_f]
[name_m]Clifton[/name_m]
[name_f]Eleni[/name_f]
Raivyn
[name_f]Demi[/name_f] - sister is [name_f]Cami[/name_f]
[name_m]Jimmy[/name_m] and [name_m]Timmy[/name_m] - twins
[name_f]Milissa[/name_f]
[name_f]Alisa[/name_f]
[name_f]Shayna[/name_f] and [name_f]Shawna[/name_f] - twins
[name_f]Katie[/name_f] and [name_f]Kylie[/name_f] - twins
[name_m]Robert[/name_m] [name_m]Robertson[/name_m] - teacher

Those are the most unusual or interesting names that I can remember lol.

Some of these may not be strange but they were definitely unexpected or interesting.

Girls:
[name_f]Tuesday[/name_f]
Tanyella (brother [name_m]Jerome[/name_m] and sister Tamsene (tam-ZEEN))
[name_f]Gladys[/name_f] (not strange but unusual on a young person)
[name_f]Agnes[/name_f] (same as [name_f]Gladys[/name_f])

Boys:
[name_u]Zen[/name_u] (sister called [name_f]Rainbow[/name_f])
[name_m]Kiefer[/name_m] ([name_f]Sister[/name_f] called [name_f]Roxy[/name_f])
[name_m]Merlin[/name_m]
Sweyn

We did have a teacher called [name_m]Keith[/name_m] [name_f]Lorraine[/name_f]!

some that I remember from school:

  • Maylise
  • a misspelling of Daiquiri that sounds the same
  • Vianessa (vee-ah-nessa)

  • Geoffrey (went by Geoff-- as in G-off not Jeff… I’m still trying to figure out of that was jsut a joke that stuck or intentional by his parents)
  • Aleta (was always in love with her name)
  • Saphira (she prn’s it suh-fear-uh) I was actually contemplating naming my son this because I love it so much. It’s still on my list along with Sapphira (sah-FYE-rah) However, we moved back to the town she is from so Saphira would be too weird to reuse in such a small place I think
  • Arialdy (boy) pronounced air-ee-all-dee in english ah-dee-al-dee (kinda) in spanish (He’s dominican)
  • Hasheptsu (I can’t remember the spelling, she went by Hash)
  • Spencer (girl)
  • Beata
  • Mabel
  • Julissa
  • Jadelyne
  • Charlie (girl)
  • Emelyn
  • Tuesday (girl)
  • Sunday… or was it Sundae? (girl)
