What are the most beautiful, spiritual and meaningful names you have come across?

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] everyone,

My partner and I have struggled for over A DECADE to get pregnant, and finally we have a little one coming along!

The pressure of finding a beautiful, meaningful and spiritual name seems overwhelming, so I would [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] some inspiring name choices.

Seeing as we don’t know the gender yet, male and female names are welcome!

There are three main forms of criteria I am trying to meet: (1) it sounds beautiful (2) it looks beautiful (3) it has a beautiful, spiritual meaning.

Some names I like so far have been:

([name_u]Zen[/name_u])
Osho
Satoru

(Celtic)
[name_m]Oran[/name_m]/[name_m]Odran[/name_m]
Saoi

(Sanskrit)
Samsara

(Aboriginee)
Uralla
Elanora

(Random)
Mandorla
Espiritu
[name_f]Avalon[/name_f]

… but none of these names quite “do it.” [name_f]Do[/name_f] you guys have any ideas for amazing, meaningful names?

Have you considered [name_m]Bodhi[/name_m]?

yeah we both considered it but we were after something unusual

The ones I thought of were [name_f]Renee[/name_f] and [name_m]Reuben[/name_m]

[name_f]Renee[/name_f] because it means “reborn” and that can mark how your life has changed since she has come into your life. I also think it’s simply a beautiful and underused name, coming from the male [name_u]Rene[/name_u] which is equally useable.

[name_m]Reuben[/name_m] because it means “behold, a son”, I just think that’s sweet since you’ve been trying for so long.

Anastasia means Resurrection so I find that meaning beautiful. But for pretty look, sound, and meaning I don’t think you can beat Seraphine or Seraphina for a girl.

For a boy I really like Thoren. Like the god Thor but more substantial. I met a little Odin in the pediatricians office… I liked that quite a bit, too.

[name_f]Anjali[/name_f]
[name_m]Azarias[/name_m]
[name_m]Zephaniah[/name_m]
[name_f]Amadea[/name_f]

To me this is a really vague question. The names I consider to be spiritually meaningful might not be relevant to people of other faith traditions.

I have to agree here. It doesn’t seem like there is a certain religion or faith you are trying to stick with on names. More specifics would be more likely to get better options (e.g., you like certain spiritual meanings like light)

[name_f]Paloma[/name_f]: dove
[name_f]Reverie[/name_f]: daydreaming, usually about pleasant things
[name_f]Celeste[/name_f]/[name_f]Celestia[/name_f]/[name_f]Celestine[/name_f]/[name_f]Celestina[/name_f]: heavenly
[name_f]Leilani[/name_f]: a heavenly flower
[name_f]Concordia[/name_f]: peace, harmony
[name_u]Eden[/name_u]
[name_f]Rafaela[/name_f]: god has healed (this is the spanish/portugese spelling there’s also Raphaella, [name_f]Rafaella[/name_f])
[name_f]Frieda[/name_f]: peaceful ruler
[name_f]Celia[/name_f]: heavenly
[name_f]Celine[/name_f]: heavenly
[name_f]Salome[/name_f]: peace

[name_m]Absalom[/name_m]: father of peace
[name_m]Casimir[/name_m]: announcing peace
Ithuriel: (discovery of god, I also saw some where spear of god Ithuriel - Wikipedia )
[name_m]Abner[/name_m]: father of light
Raziel: secrets of god
[name_m]Cillian[/name_m]/[name_m]Killian[/name_m]: church
[name_m]Sheehan[/name_m]: peaceful
[name_m]Ambrose[/name_m]: immortal one
[name_m]Croix[/name_m]: [name_m]Cross[/name_m]
[name_m]Ozias[/name_m]/[name_m]Osias[/name_m]: salvation
[name_m]Solomon[/name_m]: peace

So far [name_f]Seraphine[/name_f], [name_f]Amadea[/name_f] and [name_f]Celeste[/name_f] are really nice. Thank you guys. <3

My partner and I are not religious (organized religion) but spiritual, so we’re trying to find spiritual rather than religious names. E.g. I tend to like words that mean soul, spirit, love, immortal, etc. rather than religion-specific words that mean God, church, salvation, etc.

A lot taken from Names with "love" in Meaning - Behind the Name

[name_f]Alma[/name_f]: nourishing or spanish word for soul
[name_f]Enid[/name_f]: soul or life (Welsh)
Libena: love (Czech)
[name_f]Cara[/name_f]: beloved (Italian)
[name_f]Kerensa[/name_f]: love (Cornish)
[name_f]Idonea[/name_f]: love again (if assumed to be a form of [name_f]Idun[/name_f])
[name_f]Carys[/name_f]: love (Welsh)
[name_f]Carita[/name_f]: dearest, esteem, love (Swedish)
[name_f]Aiko[/name_f]: love, affection and child (Japanese)

[name_m]Caradoc[/name_m]: amiable, beloved (Welsh)
[name_m]Hugh[/name_m]: heart, mind, spirit
Athanasius: immortal (Greek, but Atanas is the Bulgarian and Macedonian form. Athanasia is the feminine form)

Aborigine*

This is going to sound overly sensitive, but it’s really important that if you’re choosing names from other religions or cultures you’re using the correct spellings and everything. I truly don’t mean it in a negative or harsh way, so forgive me, it’s more of a respect thing than anything else. [name_m]Just[/name_m] being culturally aware is important to me.

[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] means “divine gift”
[name_m]Anthony[/name_m] means “priceless/ of immeasurable worth”

but you said you want something more unusual than Bohdi so:
[name_m]Boone[/name_m]: blessing
[name_u]Seeley[/name_u]: blessed
[name_m]Amyas[/name_m]: loved
[name_f]Aloisia[/name_f]: famous fighter
[name_f]Anika[/name_f]: sweetest face
[name_f]Verity[/name_f]: reality/ truth
[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f]: bearer of good news
[name_f]Kismet[/name_f]: destiny/ fate
[name_u]Orion[/name_u]: brightest star

Wow, you’ve made some amazing suggestions ottertails – I particularly love how old [name_f]Enid[/name_f] sounds and the meaning behind it, as well as almost every name you have listed here. xxx

Something simple like [name_m]Creed[/name_m] would also be meaningful, but many congratulations on your pregnancy. I hope something appeals!

“[name_f]Amara[/name_f]”, “[name_f]Aroha[/name_f]”, “[name_f]Ahava[/name_f]”, “[name_u]Ceri[/name_u]”, “[name_f]Asha[/name_f]”, “[name_f]Unna[/name_f]”, “[name_f]Vita[/name_f]”, “Armo”, “[name_f]Celestine[/name_f]”, “[name_f]Aliza[/name_f]”, “[name_f]Anwen[/name_f]”, these are beautiful guys, just amazing – some of these I have never even heard before.

Since you guys have been at it longer than me (I am very new to exploring names), do you have any suggestions that I can research further for names that mean ‘silence’, ‘stillness’, ‘peace’ and especially ‘wisdom’?

<3

I’m glad you like a lot of the options! I like to compare between behindthename’s info and nameberry’s information. You may have to find names that have a combined meaning, for example, instead of a boy’s name that means wisdom, you could go with something like [name_m]Alfred[/name_m] that means wise counsel. You also might have to find synonyms. [name_u]Cato[/name_u] means “all knowing” or wise; that probably wouldn’t show up in a search for wisdom. Additionally, you can always google "names that mean __ " and hope that there’s a name berry blog or list that has a list of names. On behindthename, you start typing something like wise and there’s an option that says “search meanings for wise”.

Ooo you two have a very unique, yet beautiful style. A big congrats to you both, by the way!

I unfortunately can’t really fit your style and am struggling to think of any names that might be unusual enough for you both, but I thought I’d share the most “meaningful” name that I’ve come across. It’s just one of those names that when I heard the meaning I thought, “wow that’s really beautiful.”

[name_f]Olive[/name_f]/[name_m]Oliver[/name_m]/[name_f]Olivia[/name_f]

[name_f]Olive[/name_f] - “No matter what the conditions: hot, dry, cold, wet, rocky, or sandy, the evergreen olive tree will live and produce fruit. It is said that you can never kill an olive tree. [name_m]Even[/name_m] when cut down or burned, new shoots will emerge from it’s roots.”

Some other names that you [name_f]MAY[/name_f] like:

[name_f]Una[/name_f] - meaning “one”
[name_f]Philomena[/name_f] - meaning “lover of strength”
[name_f]Kismet[/name_f]
[name_f]Moon[/name_f]
[name_f]Nevaeh[/name_f] ([name_f]Heaven[/name_f] backwards)
[name_f]Irina[/name_f] - meaning “peace”
[name_f]Zosia[/name_f] - meaning “wisdom”

[name_m]Bodhi[/name_m] - meaning “enlightenment”
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] - meaning “gift from God”
[name_u]Pax[/name_u] - meaning “peaceful”
[name_m]Solomon[/name_m] - meaning “peace”

Again, not sure if these are unusual enough for your taste, but thought I’d share! Good luck on naming your little miracle!

Saw you wanted names that mean wisdom/wise

Here are some…

[name_f]Zosia[/name_f]
[name_f]Ulima[/name_f]
[name_f]Ramona[/name_f]
[name_f]Belig[/name_f]

[name_m]Frodi[/name_m]
[name_m]Nakos[/name_m]
[name_m]Sabino[/name_m]

If you want to search names with specific meanings, go to the top right corner where it says “find a name,” click on it and it will allow you to type in a meaning!

@ottertails " I like to compare between behindthename’s info and nameberry’s information." That’s a really smart suggestion that I didn’t think of before … thank you! I’m sure others who come to this thread will appreciate this advice just as much as me!

@alibc I think [name_f]Olive[/name_f] is simple but very sweet and meaningful. I remember learning that [name_f]Olive[/name_f] trees themselves represent immortality, hence why they can never be killed! You’ve also made some fantastic suggestions here like [name_f]Moon[/name_f] which is also simple, but sweet and symbolic, and [name_f]Nevaeh[/name_f] (unique)
