[name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Virginia[/name_f] “[name_f]Ginny[/name_f]” ([name_f]Mary[/name_f] because of their strong Catholic roots, [name_f]Virginia[/name_f] because of our home state)
[name_f]Caroline[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] “[name_f]Callie[/name_f]” (both because they liked the names)
[name_u]Spencer[/name_u] [name_m]Gregory[/name_m] (My mother loved [name_u]Spencer[/name_u]; [name_m]Gregory[/name_m] is a family name)
[name_f]Laura[/name_f] [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] ([name_f]Laura[/name_f] after [name_f]Laura[/name_f] Ingalls [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] and [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] after my mother’s sister)
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] “[name_f]Eliza[/name_f]” (both family names)
[name_f]Hannah[/name_f] [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] (Me) - [name_f]Hannah[/name_f] is a name that my parents like, and [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] is after both my grandmothers. My mum wanted my middle name to be [name_f]Rowena[/name_f], but the family middle won out. I would have been [name_m]Matthew[/name_m] if I were a boy.
[name_f]Kimberleigh[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] - Again, they just liked [name_f]Kimberleigh[/name_f], and [name_f]Jane[/name_f] is my mum’s middle name. She was going to be called [name_f]Amber[/name_f]-[name_u]Leigh[/name_u], but there was a girl in my class named Amberley, so they went with [name_f]Kimberleigh[/name_f] instead. She would have been [name_m]Benedict[/name_m] if she were a boy.
[name_f]Samantha[/name_f] [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] - My mum and step-dad could not agree on a girl’s name, but they both liked [name_f]Samantha[/name_f], and her middle name is after my aunt. She would have been [name_m]Christopher[/name_m] if she were a boy.
[name_m]Oliver[/name_m] [name_m]John[/name_m] O’[name_u]Neil[/name_u] - Dad and step-mum just liked [name_m]Oliver[/name_m], [name_m]John[/name_m] is after his grandfather, and O’[name_u]Neil[/name_u] is his mum’s maiden name. They also considered [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] for him, but preferred [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]. He would have been [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f] [name_f]Florence[/name_f] if he were a girl.
I think our names all go together, although [name_f]Kimberleigh[/name_f] is more trendy than the others (in my opinion). [name_f]Hannah[/name_f], [name_f]Kimberleigh[/name_f], and [name_f]Samantha[/name_f] works well, just as [name_f]Hannah[/name_f], [name_f]Kimberleigh[/name_f], and [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] does.
I am [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] [name_f]Fenna[/name_f] and my brother is called [name_m]Massimo[/name_m] [name_m]Albert[/name_m] and my sisters are called [name_f]Vanessa[/name_f] [name_f]Maria[/name_f] and [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] [name_f]Isabella[/name_f]. All the girls first names are ones that my parents liked and [name_m]Massimo[/name_m] is [name_m]Massimo[/name_m] [name_m]Junior[/name_m] and shares my dad’s name.
Middle names are after family members:
[name_f]Fenna[/name_f]: my mother’s name and she was named after her grandmother
[name_m]Albert[/name_m]: great-grandfather’s name on mother’s side
[name_f]Maria[/name_f]: paternal grandmother
[name_f]Isabella[/name_f]: my father’s sister
My two older half siblings are [name_m]Johnathan[/name_m] [name_m]Allan[/name_m] [name_m]Duncan[/name_m] and [name_u]June[/name_u] [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] [name_f]Ann[/name_f]
Not sure where they got their names to be honest.
Then for my mothers 5 (me being the oldest) We were all given first names that were our own, unique and individual that weren’t able to be easily shortened to anything to make a nickname and We all got 2 middle names from people important to our family. So in order of oldest to youngest starting with myself we have.
[name_m]Farren[/name_m] [name_f]Patricia[/name_f] [name_f]Eileen[/name_f] - middle names are Maternal grandmothers middle name and maternal Great grandmothers first name. (nn - Mudge)
[name_m]Jarret[/name_m] [name_u]Vernon[/name_u] [name_m]Lloyd[/name_m] - middle names are paternal grandfathers first name and maternal great grandfathers middle name. (nn - Chupa)
[name_m]Liam[/name_m] [name_m]Maxwell[/name_m] [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] - middle names are maternal grandfathers middle name and paternal great uncles first name. (nn- [name_m]Liam[/name_m] lamb)
Kalten [name_u]Douglas[/name_u] [name_m]John[/name_m] - middle names are the [name_m]Doctor[/name_m] who delivered’s first name and fathers middle name. (nn- Pup)
[name_u]Ayden[/name_u] [name_m]Charles[/name_m] [name_u]Dene[/name_u] - middle names are masculin form of maternal Grandmothers first name and paternal cousins nickname. (nn- [name_m]Zeb[/name_m])
I sort of used the same format for my children. Their first name is their own but i wanted something that was common enough to be found on a pen or magnet but not so common as to have to add their last initial to their school work. (Though my daughters name ended up being more common than anticipated.) They also got two middle names after people important to our family.
I probably wouldn’t name my children after any of my siblings. But if I were to have more children, I might would name one after my oldest brother who is deceased. All of my siblings names are ones that my parents liked, as for my twin sister and I, we were named after my grandparents.
I’m [name_f]Megan[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f] and my brother is [name_m]Anthony[/name_m] [name_u]Quinn[/name_u]. I never thought our names made a good sibset, even as a child. They seem like they were choses from completely different style lists.
But, then… I named my boys [name_m]Evander[/name_m] and [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m]… which are very stylistically different. I going to try to keep a 3 syllable theme for future children’s names.
We all carry our mothers maiden name (Kantrelle) for a middle name. I don’t know why my parents these names, I guess they just like them
Airoe
[name_u]Blaque[/name_u] (black)
[name_u]Cedar[/name_u]
[name_f]Daffodil[/name_f]
Ethopyah
[name_f]Feather[/name_f]
[name_f]Germanie[/name_f]
I don’t mind these names, though I tend to like more mainstream spellings and wouldn’t do the abc order. I am finding I have the same vibe with names…we are naming our girl Thistle.
[name_u]Keely[/name_u] [name_f]Joelle[/name_f] (me-they liked both names)
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_u]Lynn[/name_u] ([name_u]Lynn[/name_u] is our mother’s middle name)
[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] ([name_f]Catherine[/name_f] after our grandmother, [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f])
[name_f]Michelina[/name_f] [name_f]Patricia[/name_f] ([name_f]Patricia[/name_f] after our other grandmother. [name_f]Michelina[/name_f] after our father, [name_u]Michael[/name_u], and they got the idea from the frozen food company).
Mine is [name_f]Johanna[/name_f] [name_u]Brooke[/name_u] and my little sister’s is [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] [name_f]Ivy[/name_f]. Neither of us was named after anyone, just names my parents liked. In my sister’s case I got to pick her first name and I chose [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] because it was one of my favorites.
[name_u]Allison[/name_u] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] - [name_u]Allison[/name_u] because my Mom liked it, and my Dad adored it. [name_f]Jane[/name_f] is my Mom’s MN, my cousin’s MN, grandma’s MN, and great-great-grandmother’s FN. I’ll pass it on to my daughter someday.
[name_m]William[/name_m] [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] - Both my parents loved [name_m]William[/name_m]. My Mom loved the nn [name_u]Billie[/name_u], but my brother goes by [name_m]Will[/name_m] and has never responded to [name_u]Billie[/name_u]. [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] is for my Dad’s grandfather [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] “[name_u]Sam[/name_u]”.
[name_u]Allison[/name_u] & [name_m]William[/name_m] - I like how they both have the same amount of syllables, both have the double Ls followed by I’s, and end in “n” or “m”. They look matchy when you describe them, but they sound totally different. I love that my name is at the beginning of the alphabet and his is at the opposite end. I like they both have go to nicknames - [name_u]Allie[/name_u] & [name_m]Will[/name_m]. [name_u]Allison[/name_u] & [name_m]Will[/name_m] sounds good too - which is what we are called.
My name is [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] - [name_u]Ashley[/name_u], because they liked it and [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] is after my great-grandmother.
My brother is [name_m]Grant[/name_m] [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] - again, they liked [name_m]Grant[/name_m] but it also happens to be my grandmother’s maiden name. [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] is after my great-grandfather who was married to [name_f]Sarah[/name_f].
I think [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] and [name_m]Grant[/name_m] go well together because they are of similar popularity here in Australia. [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] is not the spelling of choice here, but my parent’s liked it when they lived in the States before I was born. [name_m]Grant[/name_m] also nods to our American family.
[name_f]Liliana[/name_f] [name_f]Bradlee[/name_f] ‘[name_f]Lila[/name_f]’ (pronounced [name_f]Lilla[/name_f]) - [name_f]Liliana[/name_f] because Mum found it in a newspaper and became obsessed with it and [name_f]Bradlee[/name_f] because my uncle who died before i was born was called [name_u]Bradley[/name_u] and i was named after him.
[name_m]Amadeus[/name_m] [name_m]George[/name_m] ‘Deus’ (pronounced [name_u]Day[/name_u]-us) - [name_m]Amadeus[/name_m] because it means ‘love god’ and mum liked that and [name_m]George[/name_m] because it is tradition for all male members of my brothers family have the middle name [name_m]George[/name_m].
i think [name_f]Liliana[/name_f] and [name_m]Amadeus[/name_m] go well together. [name_f]Lila[/name_f] and Deus too but that might just be because i have spent my entire life hearing ‘[name_f]Lila[/name_f] and Deus’
My name is [name_u]Kimberly[/name_u] [name_f]Renee[/name_f]…daddy picked it out! I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] it!
My brother is [name_m]Jared[/name_m] [name_m]Rolland[/name_m]. My mom got [name_m]Jared[/name_m] from a doctors name she saw in a book or newspaper ([name_m]William[/name_m] [name_m]Jared[/name_m]). [name_m]Rolland[/name_m] was my grandfathers middle name is my daddy’s middle name. I asked my mom why she didn’t use “[name_m]William[/name_m] [name_m]Jared[/name_m]” because [name_m]William[/name_m] is daddy’s name…she said she didn’t know! ”
I would use these names, but I like [name_m]William[/name_m] [name_m]Jared[/name_m] or [name_m]Jared[/name_m] [name_m]William[/name_m] better…but I loved my papa and love my daddy so [name_m]Rolland[/name_m] is good, too!
I’m [name_f]Sheryl[/name_f] [name_f]Anne[/name_f]…[name_f]Sheryl[/name_f] after a cousin of my dad’s who was [name_f]Sherry[/name_f]/[name_f]Cherie[/name_f]. Not sure where the [name_f]Anne[/name_f] came from.
My brother is [name_m]Eric[/name_m] [name_m]John[/name_m]. Those names don’t come from anyone in the family & I’m not sure why my parents chose them.
I have a stepsister named [name_f]Paula[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f]. Again, I’m not sure where those names came from.
None of us have used any of our names when naming our respective kids, although we have used family names for most of the kids in either the first or middle name place.
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] ([name_u]Teddy[/name_u]) [name_u]Elliott[/name_u]- [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] because they liked it, [name_u]Elliott[/name_u] after my great grandfather
[name_f]Olivia[/name_f] [name_f]Rachel[/name_f]- [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] because they liked it, [name_f]Rachel[/name_f] also because they liked it and it is Jewish
[name_f]Sophia[/name_f] ([name_f]Sophie[/name_f]) [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f]- [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] because they liked it, [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f]- same as [name_f]Rachel[/name_f]
[name_m]Charles[/name_m] ([name_u]Charlie[/name_u]) [name_m]Adam[/name_m]- [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] because they liked it, [name_m]Adam[/name_m]- same as [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f] and [name_f]Rachel[/name_f]
[name_f]Juliana[/name_f] Mayta (me)- [name_f]Juliana[/name_f] because they liked it, Mayta after my great aunt who died before I was born
[name_u]Allison[/name_u] [name_u]Flynn[/name_u] (me) - [name_u]Allison[/name_u] because they liked the meaning and [name_u]Flynn[/name_u] is my mother’s maiden name.
[name_f]Kara[/name_f] [name_f]Justine[/name_f] - I actually picked out my sister’s name. I was in the first grade when my parents were expecting her and they often asked me what I thought of names they had come up with and if I had any ideas of my own. I remember looking around the lunch room thinking about the names of other girls in my grade that I liked. [name_f]Cara[/name_f] and [name_f]Justine[/name_f] happened to cross paths, or maybe I played with both of them that day at recess - either way, these two names stuck together for me and I brought them home to my parents. I suggested both [name_f]Justine[/name_f] [name_f]Cara[/name_f] and [name_f]Cara[/name_f] [name_f]Justine[/name_f] and they loved the sound of [name_f]Cara[/name_f] [name_f]Justine[/name_f]. They liked the ‘K’ spelling, better, though and felt the meaning/origin of [name_f]Kara[/name_f] suited better than that of [name_f]Cara[/name_f], [name_f]Kara[/name_f] being Irish in origin (we’re very Irish) and meaning “friend,” [name_f]Cara[/name_f] being Italian in origin and meaning “dear.” Looking back I’m quite proud of my six year-old self - I think the sound flows quite well, it’s uncommon enough without being strange, and the meaning (righteous friend" when you put them together) fits my sister perfectly. Her best quality, in my opinion, is the strength of her love, passion, devotion, and commitment to her friends and loved ones… even to a fault. She’s certainly my best friend; there’s no one I’d rather have in my corner.
If anyone looked at our two names you probably wouldn’t say they went together; no one would ever pick them as a sibset as people do in this community… But I don’t think my parents really thought of such things, and I don’t really think it matters so much. When you know a pair/group of siblings, you begin to think of their names as going together because you know them as a unit. So to me [name_u]Allison[/name_u] and [name_f]Kara[/name_f] go together because we’ve always been together, just as when I think of my cousins or friends and their siblings their names seem to go together in my head, because I’ve always known them together. The association of one name with the other grows organically over time.
