What are you and YOUR siblings named?

We all want to create the perfect names for our children, but what are the names your parents gave to you and your siblings? Would you ever pick those combos for your children? [name_m]How[/name_m]/why did those names come about.

[name_f]My[/name_f] name: [name_f]Stephanie[/name_f] [name_f]Anne[/name_f] - [name_f]Stephanie[/name_f] after my father ([name_m]Stephen[/name_m]) and [name_f]Anne[/name_f] after an aunt.

Brother’s name: [name_u]Glen[/name_u] [name_m]David[/name_m] - [name_u]Glen[/name_u] after my great-grandpa and [name_m]David[/name_m] after an uncle.

[name_f]Stephanie[/name_f] & [name_u]Glen[/name_u]. [name_u]Steph[/name_u] & [name_u]Glen[/name_u]. I would not choose either of these names for my own children but I do think they go well together. I could be biased though.

[name_f]Jillian[/name_f] [name_f]Julia[/name_f] ([name_f]Julia[/name_f] for my maternal grandmother; [name_f]Jillian[/name_f] because they liked it)
[name_f]Susannah[/name_f] Coyne (Coyne is a surname somewhere)
[name_m]Daniel[/name_m] [name_m]William[/name_m] ([name_m]Daniel[/name_m] is traditionally given to the first son of the generation)
[name_m]John[/name_m] [name_u]Emmet[/name_u] ([name_m]John[/name_m] after my maternal grandfather; [name_u]Emmet[/name_u] is an Irish patriot’s name)
[name_m]George[/name_m] [name_m]Toussaint[/name_m] ([name_m]George[/name_m] after my paternal grandfather; [name_m]Toussaint[/name_m] means All Saints in [name_m]French[/name_m])
[name_m]Patrick[/name_m] [name_u]Lanie[/name_u] ([name_u]Lanie[/name_u] was my paternal grandmother’s maiden name)
[name_f]Fiona[/name_f] [name_f]Cecile[/name_f] (me–[name_f]Cecile[/name_f] is for my paternal grandmother’s middle name, [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f])
[name_f]Maeve[/name_f] [name_f]Regina[/name_f] (just because they liked it)

Some of these I would give to my children–[name_m]George[/name_m], [name_m]John[/name_m] (even [name_m]John[/name_m] [name_u]Emmet[/name_u]), [name_f]Susannah[/name_f], [name_f]Julia[/name_f], and [name_f]Maeve[/name_f]. I like my middle name, [name_f]Cecile[/name_f], but I would use [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f]. They’re all lovely, though of course I could be biased too!

[name_m]Jason[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] ([name_m]Alexander[/name_m] for a friend’s name, [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] for my father)

[name_f]Juliet[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] (Twin of [name_m]Jason[/name_m], they just liked the names.)

[name_f]Grace[/name_f] [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] (Me, [name_f]Grace[/name_f] because it was popular at the time and they liked it, [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] after my paternal grandmother.)

[name_m]Xavier[/name_m] [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] ([name_m]Xavier[/name_m] after an uncle, [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] because they liked it.)

[name_m]Archer[/name_m] [name_m]David[/name_m] ([name_m]Archer[/name_m] because my dad refused to name him [name_m]Archibald[/name_m], [name_m]David[/name_m] after an uncle.)

[name_u]Emmett[/name_u] [name_m]Callum[/name_m] ([name_u]Emmett[/name_u] after an uncle, [name_m]Callum[/name_m]
because mom liked it)

[name_f]Pamela[/name_f] [name_u]Kay[/name_u] ([name_f]Pamela[/name_f] because my mom found it in a baby book and thought it sounded “musical”. [name_f]My[/name_f] sister is now a singer/songwriter/musician. [name_u]Kay[/name_u] because it’s my mom’s middle and her mom’s middle.)

[name_f]Cathryn[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] ([name_f]Cathryn[/name_f] after my aunt [name_f]Kathryn[/name_f]. Mom changed the K to a C so I’d have my dad’s initials. [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] after my mom’s best friend at the time, [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]. [name_f]Kathryn[/name_f] and [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] were also my mom’s bridesmaids.)

I list them from oldest to youngest…

[name_f]Carolyn[/name_f] “[name_f]Carrie[/name_f]” [name_f]Marie[/name_f]- she is to honor an a great aunt [name_f]Carolyn[/name_f], great aunt [name_f]Myrtle[/name_f], and great aunt [name_f]Marie[/name_f]. She nicknamed herself [name_f]Carrie[/name_f] when she was a preteen because she didn’t like [name_f]Carol[/name_f] and was jealous of my sister [name_f]Jerri[/name_f].

[name_f]Jerri[/name_f] [name_f]Ninette[/name_f]- [name_f]My[/name_f] dad said he wanted a child named after him. They only planned on two kids. [name_f]My[/name_f] dad’s name is [name_m]Gerald[/name_m] nn [name_u]Jerry[/name_u]. They just switched it to the feminine form, which is [name_f]Jeri[/name_f] but they added an R. [name_f]Ninette[/name_f] means [name_f]Grace[/name_f] which was my Grans name, and is a [name_m]French[/name_m] diminutive of [name_f]Ann[/name_f], my moms middl name. [name_f]Roberta[/name_f] [name_f]Ann[/name_f].

[name_m]Jeffrey[/name_m] “[name_m]Jeff[/name_m]” [name_m]Franklin[/name_m]- [name_m]Jeffrey[/name_m] is a name they liked, and [name_m]Franklin[/name_m] was my moms dad, my Grandpas middle name. [name_m]Ellsworth[/name_m] [name_m]Franklin[/name_m].

[name_m]William[/name_m] “[name_m]Will[/name_m]” [name_m]Henry[/name_m]- [name_m]William[/name_m] is a name they liked, and [name_m]Henry[/name_m] is a great uncle of mine.

[name_m]Thomas[/name_m] “[name_m]Tom[/name_m]” [name_m]Allen[/name_m]- [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] is my dad’s middle name, [name_m]Allen[/name_m] is just a name they liked.

[name_u]Shannon[/name_u] “[name_u]Shann[/name_u]” [name_f]Grace[/name_f]- Me  [name_f]My[/name_f] dad came up with the name from the song Shenandoah- it’s an old American Folk Song also known as Across the Wide Missouri. [name_f]My[/name_f] mom wanted to honor my Gran/her mom [name_f]Grace[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f].

There is an 18 year difference in age from me and my oldest sister. [name_f]My[/name_f] parents have been married for 43 years now.

I honestly can’t think of better names to suite my siblings. I think my parents did a great job at naming us! If they weren’t my siblings names I’d use [name_m]Jeffrey[/name_m], [name_m]William[/name_m], [name_m]Henry[/name_m], [name_m]Thomas[/name_m], [name_m]Allen[/name_m] (I am as a mn because its a family name on my husbands side), [name_f]Ninette[/name_f], [name_m]Franklin[/name_m] (my brother [name_m]Jeff[/name_m] named one of his sons [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] [name_m]Franklin[/name_m]).

I have [name_m]Gerard[/name_m], or [name_m]Jared[/name_m] to honor my dad with the nn [name_u]Jerry[/name_u] or [name_u]Gerry[/name_u]. [name_f]Anna[/name_f] means [name_f]Grace[/name_f] and is to honor my mom. [name_f]Bea[/name_f] ([name_f]Bee[/name_f]) is to honor my Gran.

[name_f]Rebekah[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] “[name_f]Becka[/name_f]”- [name_f]Rebekah[/name_f] is Biblical and they liked it, [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] was for my Mum.

[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] “[name_u]Jo[/name_u]”- (Me) [name_f]My[/name_f] Mum named me after her favourite character in her favourite book, [name_u]Jo[/name_u] from [name_m]Little[/name_m] Women. I don’t have a middle name, because my parents thought that [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] could stand on it’s own and any name would take away from it.

[name_m]Nathan[/name_m] [name_u]Glenn[/name_u] [name_m]Charles[/name_m] “Nafe”- [name_m]Nathan[/name_m] is Biblical and they like the meaning. [name_f]My[/name_f] Dad chose his middle names, [name_u]Glenn[/name_u] after my Dad’s brother who had recently died, and [name_m]Charles[/name_m] is a family middle given to the first born boy.

So we are [name_f]Rebekah[/name_f], [name_u]Jo[/name_u] and [name_m]Nathan[/name_m] I think my parents did a great job of naming us, we have lovely classic names

I also have 3 younger siblings from my Dad’s second marriage. All of their middle names are family names, though I don’t think there’s a particular story behind the first names.

[name_m]Mitchell[/name_m] [name_m]Kevin[/name_m] “[name_m]Mitch[/name_m]”
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f] “[name_f]Lucy[/name_f]-[name_f]Lu[/name_f]”
[name_f]Abigail[/name_f] [name_u]Jean[/name_u] “[name_u]Abby[/name_u]”

[name_f]Rebekah[/name_f], [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], [name_m]Nathan[/name_m], [name_m]Mitchell[/name_m], [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], and [name_f]Abigail[/name_f]

[name_f]My[/name_f] sister is called [name_f]Marilyn[/name_f] [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f] because we have a [name_f]Mary[/name_f] and [name_f]Mary[/name_f] variation tradition in our family and my mother loves [name_f]Marilyn[/name_f] [name_u]Monroe[/name_u] and [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f] is after my paternal aunt and one of my sisters god-mothers.

I’m called [name_f]Molly[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]: again the [name_f]Mary[/name_f] tradition and [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is after my other paternal aunt and one of my god-mothers.

[name_u]Haley[/name_u] [name_f]Alannah[/name_f] (me) - one of my mum’s favourite names
[name_f]Mikayla[/name_f] [name_f]Nicole[/name_f] - my parents originally thought about [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f], but changed their minds as they disliked [name_f]Maddie[/name_f], and didn’t want her lumped in with all the [name_u]Madison[/name_u]'s being born around that time, and they didn’t like the [name_f]Michaela[/name_f] spelling, so opted for [name_f]Mikayla[/name_f].

(I can’t remember my siblings’ middle names - I’m terrible, sorry. In my defense, there are some weird age gaps between myself and most of my siblings. None of my siblings are named after anyone except for one of my brothers.)

[name_f]Katherine[/name_f] “[name_f]Kate[/name_f]” - [name_f]My[/name_f] oldest sister by 15 years. I love the name [name_f]Kate[/name_f] and contemplated using it many times.

[name_u]Lindsay[/name_u] “[name_f]Lindy[/name_f]” - She’s older than my by 12 years. I’ve never really liked the name [name_u]Lindsay[/name_u] and I doubt I’d ever use it, even as a middle name.

[name_u]Allison[/name_u] “[name_u]Allie[/name_u]” - Older than me by 10 years. I like the name [name_u]Allison[/name_u] but I don’t think I’d use it on any of my own children.

[name_f]Margaret[/name_f] “[name_f]Meg[/name_f]” - Me. [name_f]My[/name_f] mother just liked the name, I guess.

[name_m]Maxwell[/name_m] “[name_u]Max[/name_u]” - [name_f]My[/name_f] younger brother by 2 years. [name_u]Max[/name_u] seems so popular that I’d never use it.

[name_m]Charles[/name_m] “[name_u]Charlie[/name_u]” - [name_f]My[/name_f] younger brother by 8 years. Again, too popular.

[name_u]Gary[/name_u] - Younger by 10 years. [name_f]My[/name_f] only sibling named after someone. He’s named after his father.

[name_m]Joshua[/name_m] [name_u]Michael[/name_u] ([name_m]Josh[/name_m])- my mom likes Hebrew names. [name_u]Michael[/name_u] is our father’s fn.

[name_m]Nathanael[/name_m] [name_m]Peter[/name_m] ([name_m]Nate[/name_m])- Again a Hebrew name. -ael spelling to mirror [name_u]Michael[/name_u]. [name_m]Peter[/name_m] is our father’s mn.

[name_f]Marisa[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]- Planned on Hebrew name ([name_f]Rachel[/name_f]) but changed their minds. [name_f]Marisa[/name_f] to keep with my grandmother ([name_f]Mary[/name_f]) and mother’s ([name_f]Marilyn[/name_f]) fn’s. [name_f]Rose[/name_f] was my great grandmother’s fn. [name_f]My[/name_f] mom also liked that it reminded her of the song “The [name_f]Rose[/name_f].” (I was born in '81.)

[name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_f]Alice[/name_f] & [name_u]Michael[/name_u] [name_m]George[/name_m] (middles after my Dad’s grandfather and Mum’s grandmother).

I really like them  my parents’ sibsets are awful though ([name_f]IMO[/name_f] obviously):

[name_f]Michelle[/name_f], [name_f]Debra[/name_f] & [name_u]Neil[/name_u]
[name_m]Paul[/name_m] [name_m]Jr[/name_m]. & [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] (though Dad goes by [name_m]Mark[/name_m], his mn)

[name_f]Sarah[/name_f] [name_f]Megan[/name_f] and [name_m]Daniel[/name_m] [name_m]Marcus[/name_m]. I feel like they’re okay names, but [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] is unbearably popular.

[name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Jenny[/name_f]
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_f]Vera[/name_f]
[name_u]Sam[/name_u] [name_m]Brian[/name_m]- Pronounced [name_f]Bree[/name_f]- in (Irish)
From youngest to oldest

[name_m]Jeremy[/name_m] [name_m]Keith[/name_m]
[name_u]Lindsey[/name_u] [name_f]Marie[/name_f] (me)
[name_f]Kylie[/name_f] [name_u]Lynn[/name_u]
[name_m]Dawson[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u]

I think they did a pretty good job and I personally love my name

I’m [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] [name_f]Cynthia[/name_f], named after my grandmothers, and my sister is [name_f]Laura[/name_f] [name_f]Ann[/name_f]. [name_f]Ann[/name_f] is my mom’s middle name, and [name_f]Laura[/name_f] was chosen because it was basically the only girls’ name my parents could agree on, plus my mom liked the [name_m]Little[/name_m] Women connection ([name_m]Theodore[/name_m] “[name_u]Laurie[/name_u]” [name_u]Laurence[/name_u]), since she had gotten my nickname [name_f]Meg[/name_f] from the book as well. I think my parents did a good job naming me (although I’d rather not be named after anyone, at least the names are nice), but I think my sister’s name is kind of boring, especially the middle. [name_f]Anne[/name_f], at least, would have been a prettier spelling.

[name_f]My[/name_f] name is [name_f]Cate[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]…[name_f]Cate[/name_f] just because and then [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] after my maternal great-grandmother.
[name_f]My[/name_f] brother who is 4 years younger than me is named [name_m]Ewan[/name_m] [name_m]Henry[/name_m]. [name_m]Ewan[/name_m], again, just because they liked it, and then [name_m]Henry[/name_m] after my maternal great-grandfather.
For a long time it was just the two of us, [name_f]Cate[/name_f] and [name_m]Ewan[/name_m], which I think goes rather well together. Then, my youngest brother was born. His name is [name_m]Gavin[/name_m] [name_m]Charles[/name_m]. [name_m]Gavin[/name_m] was chosen because they liked it, and then [name_m]Charles[/name_m] was after my maternal grandfather. (There is definitely a theme here)

[name_f]My[/name_f] parents were rather uncreative and chose top 50 names for all of us. I’m [name_f]Emily[/name_f] [name_f]Anne[/name_f], [name_f]Emily[/name_f] was a name they liked (and number 1 that year) and [name_f]Anne[/name_f] was after my grandmother. [name_f]My[/name_f] brothers are twins and are [name_u]Michael[/name_u] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] and [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u]. I think all of our names go fairly well together, and I like them all (my parents seem to have a similar style to me) but I would have chosen less popular names. Personally, though I like all of our names I think they are kind of boring/normal (and I’d rather not have to go by [name_f]Emily[/name_f] last initial all the time).

I have the best of both worlds - only child with grown-up half-siblings who I was not raised with. They were adopted (separately), so I do not know if they already had names, or whether my Dad and his ex picked them. I don’t think they have middles because no-one’s ever mentioned them.

Half-sister - [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f]
Half-brother - [name_u]James[/name_u]
Me - [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] = I was named after my paternal grandmother ([name_f]Helena[/name_f] [name_f]Sophie[/name_f]) and my maternal grandmother ([name_f]Margaret[/name_f]). [name_f]My[/name_f] parents added [name_f]Grace[/name_f] because they felt it flowed better and my Mum loved it.
