What are you GP Names?

My mother was a very brave women and chose very unusual names for her children. Doing so, during a time when people where more conservative and narrowed in their baby name choices. Although, I am daring at times, baby names is not quite one of them. It is one of those circumstance where it will come back and bite you in the bottom for the rest of your life and possible your child’s life.

I often find myself daring with some name choices but not others. I think sometimes fear strikes its way into our hearts and we feel that many of our name choices NEED to be put on our GP lists. When in reality, the names may be more welcomed than we first anticipated. In a world that is increasingly becoming more tolerant, I think it allows mothers’ today, to be bold in their choices, without coming off wrong as our Mother’s had during their time frame.

I think all NB’s have a GP list. So I’m being bold and throwing my GP list out there for the world to see. Tell me what you think and tell me what your GP names are? I’m sure you all have humorous stories to tell.

1.) [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] [name_m]Phillip[/name_m] [name_m]Llewellyn[/name_m] - [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] is becoming more common
2.) [name_m]Casimir[/name_m] [name_u]Vyvyan[/name_u] Voltaire - people fumble casimir
3.) [name_m]Beresford[/name_m] Wolstan [name_u]Merritt[/name_u] - Very manly and comes with the handy Nn. [name_m]Bear[/name_m] but also has a bad nickname … Bare Bottom–It never crossed our mind, until my husband’s friend announced it to us .

4.) [name_m]Kester[/name_m] Ludric [name_m]Prospero[/name_m]
5.) [name_m]Linus[/name_m] [name_m]Godfrey[/name_m] [name_m]Algernon[/name_m]
6.) [name_m]Casper[/name_m] [name_m]Ulric[/name_m] Adalger – [name_m]Ulric[/name_m] is an unfavored family name and casper the ghost
7.) [name_m]Damon[/name_m] [name_m]Evander[/name_m] [name_m]Burleigh[/name_m] – Sounds like a pretty boy and could be mistaken for demon

8.) [name_m]Boris[/name_m] Faramond Tresillian – too grand
9.) [name_m]Granville[/name_m] [name_m]Orestes[/name_m] Montmorency — All I can picture is [name_f]Jessica[/name_f] [name_m]Fletcher[/name_m]'s nephew off of murder she wrote, whom constantly had to be bailed out of trouble by his aunt. He was always accused of murder and [name_m]Orestes[/name_m] killed his parents. I thought about switching to [name_u]Orion[/name_u] instead, but it still doesn’t help [name_m]Granville[/name_m].

P.S. I probably won’t ever use my list, my husband’s mind is set on certain name which is on our “safe” list. lol.

I love [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] [name_m]Phillip[/name_m] [name_m]Llewellyn[/name_m]! It’s totally usable.

My guilty pleasure names for boys are:
[name_m]Bear[/name_m]
[name_m]Wolfgang[/name_m]
[name_u]Bellamy[/name_u]
[name_u]Darcy[/name_u]
[name_u]Emerson[/name_u]

Its a running joke in my family, but when I exposed my FULL list of names to them, which included my guilty pleasure names, my father’s first response was: " I can’t even pronounce them. I’ll just call it-IT-and whistle at it to come here." “If any one ask what -IT’s- name is, I’ll just tell them: Something, something, something, but I whistle and call it -IT-.” I remember asking my father: if I named our child [name_m]Wolfgang[/name_m], and called him [name_m]Wolf[/name_m], would it make him feel better when he whistled at the child? He laughed and said yes, it would make it legit.

I love [name_m]Wolfgang[/name_m], [name_u]Bellamy[/name_u] and [name_u]Darcy[/name_u]. But my husband disliks [name_u]Darcy[/name_u]. He think of [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_u]Austen[/name_u] Mr. [name_u]Darcy[/name_u] from his Eng Lit classes from his college days. But If your family is open I think it has great possibilities!
