Recently, while on Nameberry Iv been just looking at people sigs at the bottom. I am so intrested in some of the names I see but I’m a bit embarrassed to mail people individualy, so if you don’t mind to share you child’s name and why. I’m sure everyone would be intrested.
My son is [name]Mason[/name] [name]Wilder[/name]. [name]Mason[/name] is a family name on my mom’s side, [name]Wilder[/name] a family name on my step-dad’s side, and he has my last name which is obviously a family name on my dad’s side. I love honoring family. Number one, I think it’s nice to have a namesake and the stories are always nice and there’s weight in that name. I wasn’t named after anybody and I sometimes feel that my name would be more special if it were honoring somebody. Number two, family trees are rife with really spectacular names so I had fun creating his.
my daughter is [name]McKinley[/name] Mayfair. [name]McKinley[/name] because her biological dad was from [name]Alaska[/name]. We considered [name]Denali[/name], but his cousin named her daughter that. Mayfair was my grandma and great-grandma’s middle name.
my son is [name]Christian[/name] [name]Wayne[/name]. [name]Christian[/name] because it was my grandma’s favorite name and even though she had five sons she never got to use it. also my middle is [name]Kristine[/name]. [name]Wayne[/name] was his biological dads middle name.
My 4 year-old daughter is [name]Sylvia[/name] [name]Caron[/name]. [name]Sylvia[/name] was just a name we liked, but I also liked that it started with S to honor a friend of mine that passed away very young. [name]Caron[/name] is a combo name of [name]Carol[/name] + [name]Sharon[/name] after my mother and [name]MIL[/name].
Our boy will likely be [name]Linus[/name] [name]Roman[/name]. [name]Linus[/name] is a name we like after [name]Linus[/name] Pauling and Torvalds. [name]Roman[/name] is another combo name of [name]Rodger[/name] + [name]Herman[/name] after my dad and FIL/GFIL.
My daughter’s name is [name]Maura[/name] [name]Lucille[/name]. The name [name]Maura[/name] has been one of my favorites forever, but I set my heart on it when I started dating my now-husband because he’s Irish Catholic. It just seemed like the perfect name to honor his heritage, since it comes from the Irish name for [name]Mary[/name]. The first time we ever talked about baby names together, back when we were still dating and he was still willing to humor me :-P, he suggested the same name! Except he wanted to use the traditional Irish spelling. Once I was actually pregnant, he let me have my way. I was growing the kid, after all ;-)! [name]Lucille[/name] is my grandmother’s name, but it was husband who chose to honor her. I though it was really sweet! The only other first names we ever considered, besides alternate spellings of [name]Maura[/name], were [name]Molly[/name] and [name]Lucy[/name], so I guess we kind of ended up rolling them all into one.
Oooh I like this!! I would love to see what everyone says! We don’t have any kids yet… but we have agreed that if we ever have a boy his name will be [name]Spencer[/name] [name]Duane[/name]. [name]Spencer[/name] is my grandma’s maiden name, and [name]Duane[/name] is both our grandpa’s name. We are less decisive on a girl’s name, but we definitely want to use a family name for at least the middle.
[name]Both[/name] of my girls’ names honor family. In the Jewish tradition, we can use the first initial to honor a deceased family member. My daughter [name]Isabella[/name] is named after my maternal grandfather, [name]Isaac[/name]. My younger daughter, [name]Vanessa[/name], is named after my paternal grandmother, [name]Varvara[/name].
So intresting to hear these lovely names.
@smismar loved how you combined the names. Very creative!
[name]Oscar[/name] - we liked it. We first were drawn to [name]Oliver[/name], but found that despite the sweet quirkiness, it’s moving up the charts pretty rapidly. [name]Oscar[/name], on the other hand, is pretty steady on the charts. Also, it’s easy to spell/say/pronounce even in Chinese.
[name]Leopold[/name] - a roundabout way of honoring my grandfather specifically, rather than honor my dad as well (My dad is a junior, so using my grandfather’s name would have meant using my dads name). Also, we liked it and the meaning, it sounds good with [name]Oscar[/name] and the surname, and it gives the whole name a dignified feel.
My son [name]Gabriel[/name] [name]Christian[/name] was named in the first couple of weeks after my husband and I met. [name]Gabriel[/name] was a name we both loved and the 2 people we knew that were named [name]Gabriel[/name] were both very kind, generous men. Those were qualities we would want our son to have. [name]Christian[/name] is not only my hubby’s middle name but the middle name of both his and my great-grandfathers. It was important to us to honor family. That was 11 years ago we made that decision, [name]Gabriel[/name] is 4 now. We just started TTC again and now I’m frantically trying to find names as this one won’t be nearly as easy. What we do know is that if it is a girl, her name will include [name]Marie[/name] after my hubby’s great grandmother. A boy? I haven’t the first inkling of a clue yet.
Azula [name]Rosemary[/name]. We wanted something strong and feminine without being too common or overly frilly.
Before we were married DH [name]Corey[/name] got me to watch a TC series called “Avatar: The Last Airbender”. As far as I understand all the names in the show were made up by the writers - Azula was one of the names they used, and as soon as we heard it we both loved it and decided on the spot if we had a daughter her name would be Azula. Years later we still loved it, it was far and away the steady top of our list of options, so we went for it. I guess it’s kind of nerdy to name your child after a cartoon character, but we thought it might be an obscure enough show that most people wouldn’t make the connection. My daughter has beautiful blue eyes so sometimes if I don’t want to tell people about how we found the name I just say it’s from [name]Azul[/name], the Spanish word for blue.
Aside from meeting my desire for a nature name, [name]Rosemary[/name] honors a few family members - my mother comes from a Catholic family where most of the girls have some variant of [name]Rose[/name] or [name]Mary[/name] in their names. We considered using Azula [name]Jasmine[/name], which were some of the flowers we had at our wedding ceremony, but decided [name]Rosemary[/name] was better for us because of the family connection.
Pregnant again and still sort of debating what the name (or names, if its TWINS - we will find out next [name]Wednesday[/name]) will be. Its important to me that the names can be spelled phonetically and that they are special.
My daughter is [name]Ayla[/name] Alba-[name]Rose[/name].
We went into hospital with [name]Alba[/name] and [name]Zara[/name] picked out. [name]Both[/name] compromise names.
When she was born [name]Ayla[/name] popped into my head and that was that. DH wanted to use [name]Alba[/name]-[name]Rose[/name] as the middle ( he was born in [name]Scotland[/name] so it’s a nod to his origins) and while I felt it was a bit of a mouthful at the time, i love that it honors her dads, and therefore her own, heritage. Everyday she grows into her name a little more.
I have dibs on the mn of the next one though. They have his last name so the mn of the next one will honor my family/ heritage somehow.
my daughter is [name]Amy[/name]-[name]Louise[/name].
We went into the hospital with [name]Abigail[/name] [name]Louise[/name], [name]Amelia[/name] [name]Rose[/name] and [name]Emily[/name] [name]Rose[/name]/[name]Louise[/name]. - When she was born [name]Amy[/name] popped into my boyfriends head and that was it. Which I later found out [name]Amy[/name] is a form of [name]Amelia[/name] & [name]Emily[/name], which is good because my daughter has a bit of both my great grandmother’s names in hers.
Our son is [name]William[/name] [name]Balthazar[/name]. [name]William[/name] was an easy decision, because the name was in both our Top 5 and DH really liked the Irish-ness of the nickname [name]Liam[/name]. (He and his brother also have Irish names.) [name]Balthazar[/name] started out as a guilty pleasure for me – I’ve always loved the story of the [name]Magi[/name] and their awesome names – so I didn’t even mention it when we first started talking about names, thinking DH would probably veto it anyway. (He has more conservative tastes in names.) When I finally did, however, he actually thought it was a pretty cool name, so that’s what we went with. We couldn’t be happier with [name]Liam[/name]'s name!
no one makes the cartoon connection? lucky! its the first thing i thought and ive only seen a few episodes.
My daughter’s name is [name]Annabel[/name] [name]Violet[/name]. I have always loved the name [name]Annabel[/name], so even though we considered a few other names while pregnant with her it was pretty much a given her name would be [name]Annabel[/name]. We also loved [name]Violet[/name], so [name]Annabel[/name] [name]Violet[/name] she is.
[name]Landon[/name] [name]Michael[/name] [name]James[/name]… [name]Landon[/name] was the name my husband picked and if fits our son perfectly. [name]Michael[/name] [name]James[/name] were picked because they sounded good along with [name]Landon[/name]. Two middle names just because I have two middle names.
[name]Addison[/name] [name]Blake[/name] [name]Lynn[/name]… [name]Addison[/name] was the name I picked and it works great for our daughter. [name]Blake[/name] is a namesake from my husbands best friend who he served two tours in Iraq with. [name]Lynn[/name] is one of my middle names and my moms middle name.
Yeah, almost nobody guesses that’s where its from. The few that do, are usually little kids since its a kid show (or just fantasy nerds) & tend to really like the name.
@kaiteydenberg Azula is soooo pretty, and so unique!
Too everyone else your children’s names are amazing!
[name]Patrick[/name] is my husband’s middle name and also well used for middle names in his family. [name]Werner[/name] is after my husband’s grandfather.
[name]Mary[/name] [name]Claire[/name] was my mother’s name and there are a lot of other [name]Marys[/name] in the family as well so we were able to honor a lot of people with her name.
I love that [name]Patrick[/name] and [name]Mary[/name] really go together well in my opinion. And that they are both family names so they both have special meaning.
