… and do you think they are usable?
I love Greek mythology myself and I want to know what you guys think of myth names. Tell me your favorites and if you think they are usable or GP. [name_m]Both[/name_m] genders welcome and variations of myth names too.
Some of my favorites are:
(Girls)
[name_u]Artemis[/name_u]/[name_f]Artemisia[/name_f]- Not sure if usable
[name_f]Cassandra[/name_f]- usable, if not dated
[name_f]Cassiopeia[/name_f]- Not sure if usable
[name_f]Helena[/name_f]- usable
[name_f]Irina[/name_f]/[name_f]Irena[/name_f]/[name_f]Eirini[/name_f]/[name_f]Eirene[/name_f]- [name_f]Irina[/name_f] and [name_f]Irena[/name_f] are usable, [name_f]Eirini[/name_f]/[name_f]Eirene[/name_f] are not
[name_f]Selene[/name_f]/[name_f]Selena[/name_f]- usable, if not dated
[name_f]Persephone[/name_f]- not sure if usable
[name_f]Thalia[/name_f]- usable
Boys:
[name_m]Demetrius[/name_m] (from [name_u]Demeter[/name_u])- probably not usable
[name_m]Jason[/name_m]- usable, if not dated.
Let me know your favorites from your own lists. Thanks!
My favorite is [name_f]Cassandra[/name_f], which I did use. I also like [name_u]Artemis[/name_u], [name_f]Persephone[/name_f], and [name_f]Athena[/name_f] for girls, and inthink they’re all useable. I love [name_u]Orion[/name_u] for boys and I think it’s useable.
[name_f]Love[/name_f]:
[name_f]Andromeda[/name_f]
[name_u]Echo[/name_u]
[name_f]Ariadne[/name_f]
[name_m]Perseus[/name_m]
[name_u]Artemis[/name_u]-for a boy
And would like a lot more if not for there negative connotations.
[name_m]Ajax[/name_m] - really shouldn’t be usable because of the rape thing but it kind of is
Bellerophon - not terribly wearable
[name_m]Orpheus[/name_m]
Boys
[name_m]Lysander[/name_m]
[name_m]Damon[/name_m]
[name_m]Hector[/name_m]
[name_m]Ulysses[/name_m]
[name_m]Atlas[/name_m]
Less usable, but I like them
[name_f]Eurydice[/name_f]
Khione
[name_f]Nyx[/name_f]
It is my own personal AAAARGH moment that most -e ending Greek names, like any other -ee sound ending names, sound pretty weird with our surname. This makes my girls list side very tilted and sad.
I like a lot of mythological names and find the ones you listed absolutely normal for everyday life (I’d only doubt [name_f]Persephone[/name_f] but I know a few who bear it well so…).
My most beloved ones are [name_f]Hermione[/name_f](actually, it’s my daughter’s name) for a girl and [name_m]Perseus[/name_m] for a boy.
Other favorites of mine include:
[name_f]Athena[/name_f]
[name_u]Artemis[/name_u]
Cleodora
[name_f]Cressida[/name_f]
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f]
[name_u]Demeter[/name_u]
[name_f]Electra[/name_f]
[name_f]Harmonia[/name_f]
[name_u]Hero[/name_u]
Leto
[name_f]Medea[/name_f]
[name_u]Nike[/name_u]
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f]
[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]
[name_f]Psyche[/name_f]
[name_f]Selene[/name_f]
[name_f]Sybil[/name_f]
Terpsichore
[name_f]Thalia[/name_f]
[name_f]Thisbe[/name_f]
I like some names that don’t seem very mythological: [name_f]Helen/name_f, [name_f]Penelope[/name_f], etc. and think they are completely usable.
I also have a fondness for [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f], which I think is much more obviously mythological. I think it’s borderline usable, esp. with the common nickname [name_u]Andy[/name_u]/[name_f]Andie[/name_f].
I like many Greek mythology names, but my favorites are [name_f]Aphrodite[/name_f], Briseis, and [name_f]Cassiane[/name_f]. I think they’re all usable.
