[name_f]Do[/name_f] you guys have any favorite Japanese names for girls? If so, what are they and do they have any nicknames?
As far as I know, Japanese people typically don’t like non-Japanese using Japanese names so I would never consider it.
Sound wise, my favorite word is Komerebi which is the Japanese word for the sun filtering through the leaves in the trees.
As far as names go, I love Chinatsu and Katsumi.
[name_f]Miyabi[/name_f] is my favorite! It’s a childhood friend’s name and I’ve always thought it was so pretty. [name_f]Mimi[/name_f] would be a cute nickname.
I also think [name_f]Umeko[/name_f] is lovely, although I believe it’s a little outdated in Japan. [name_f]Umi[/name_f] would make a cute nickname, or maybe [name_u]Coco[/name_u].
A Japanese invented name I love is [name_f]Winry[/name_f].
Nicknaming is not a standard practice for Japanese names.

[name_f]Umeko[/name_f] - it’s suppoused to symbolise the plum tree, a tree which grows when most other ones don’t in Japan. Therefore, it is a name that’s used to symbolise fidelity within marriage and loyalty within friendship. It’s about giving your daughter the quality of a woman who will stay with you when most others turn their back on you. I think I got this information from a very old article on Namebrry. It has stuck with me ever since because that’s beautiful if true.
