[name_m]How[/name_m] do you feel about [name_f]Alison[/name_f]? It’s a name that’s appealing to me more and more, I’m just not sure if I like the nickname [name_u]Allie[/name_u]- which would be the natural choice. I know [name_f]Alice[/name_f] is a popular choice with berries, but it’s not my style. Thanks for you input, I wanted to see what others thought of the name before adding it to my favorites list.
I think it’s a nice name. I know several little [name_u]Allison[/name_u]'s. I do prefer [name_f]Alice[/name_f], but [name_u]Allison[/name_u] is a sweet choice too. I like [name_u]Allie[/name_u] as a nickname as well.
I’m not a fan of [name_f]Alison[/name_f], personally, but mostly because I do not like the nickname [name_u]Allie[/name_u]/[name_u]Ali[/name_u]. Among the students I teach currently, I have 3 ([name_u]Ali[/name_u], [name_u]Allie[/name_u], and [name_f]Alie[/name_f]). They’re lovely girls, but I do not care for their nickname.
I always loved this name growing up, but I feel it’s a little bit 90’s dated now. It’s been replaced by [name_u]Addison[/name_u], [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f], [name_f]Adeline[/name_f], [name_u]Madison[/name_u], etc.
I think it’s a beautiful name. There are lots of nn options besides [name_u]Allie[/name_u]… [name_f]Alice[/name_f], Lis, [name_m]Al[/name_m], [name_f]Lissa[/name_f] all come to mind as I know [name_f]Alison[/name_f]'s that go by these.
[name_f]Alison[/name_f] was on our list when we had our daughter! I do like its Scottish roots.
I like it! [name_f]Alison[/name_f] (with one “L”) has been on and off my list several times. I don’t feel like she fits my over all style well, which is why she never stays on my list, but I love meeting little Allisons!
I’m more of an [name_f]Alice[/name_f] person, but I do really like [name_f]Alison[/name_f] - spelled either [name_f]Alison[/name_f] or [name_u]Allison[/name_u], none of this [name_f]Allyson[/name_f]/[name_f]Alyson[/name_f]/[name_f]Allisyn[/name_f] business. It always feels like the name of one of those responsible, put-together, type-A sort of girls. Honestly, my image of an [name_f]Alice[/name_f] and an [name_f]Alison[/name_f] are almost the same, and I like [name_f]Alison[/name_f] almost just as much - [name_f]Alice[/name_f] just goes better with my other favorites.
Since [name_f]Alison[/name_f]'s origins are as already as a diminuitive (of [name_f]Alice[/name_f]), I don’t see why an [name_f]Alison[/name_f] couldn’t just go by … [name_f]Alison[/name_f], but I understand your concerns about people using [name_u]Allie[/name_u]. If you’re vigilant you can avoid [name_u]Allie[/name_u] when she’s very little, but unfortunately once she’s at school you’re sort of stuck with what she decides! I second the idea of Lis, [name_f]Lissie[/name_f], or [name_u]Sonny[/name_u] if you’re looking to get ahead of the people calling her [name_u]Allie[/name_u].
I think [name_f]Alison[/name_f] is a very nice name - I prefer it to [name_f]Alice[/name_f]. Although I know some Alisons who go by [name_u]Ali[/name_u]/[name_u]Allie[/name_u] most just go by [name_f]Alison[/name_f].
Since reading the Canterbury tales in school, I have always thought of it as more of a classic, very old name. It doesn’t have the popularity of [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] or [name_f]Mary[/name_f], but it is just as nice.
[name_f]Alison[/name_f] feels dated to me, but it’s a nice enough name. What about [name_f]Lissie[/name_f]?
While I am in love with [name_f]Alice[/name_f], I still think [name_u]Allison[/name_u] is a beautiful name. I don’t think you need to worry about nicknames. [name_m]Just[/name_m] call her [name_u]Allison[/name_u]. It doesn’t need to be shortened.
[name_f]Lissie[/name_f] was my thought for a nickname- so I’m glad others thought of it too. But, yes, I think I would most prefer just the name [name_f]Alison[/name_f]. I like that it’s such an old name, but feels new. And it has sustained a decent amount of popularity through the decades.
