What names, do you believe, are underrated but deserve some appreciation? Names you believe are totally awesome that seem to fly under the radar!!!
Off of my list, Araluen and Willoughby. Araluen has such well loved and familiar sounds, I am surprised I don’t hardly ever see it. Willoughby is both a nature name and a unisex name, which we see and hear alot of on here, but I surprisingly don’t see Willoughby very often either.
A few more- Riel, Antoine, Antony, Harlan, Fielding, Thompson, Robinson and Saxon. All favourite names of mine that are recognizable and have familiar enough sounds and looks, I’d expect them to get more attention then they do.
[name_f]Cerys[/name_f], [name_u]Shiloh[/name_u] and [name_m]Myles[/name_m]. They’re favourites of mine.
Mabli. If I remember correctly it’s the Welsh form of [name_f]Mabel[/name_f]. I never see it mentioned here (I don’t think it has a database entry) but it’s really cute.
[name_f]Keziah[/name_f] (KEH-zee-ah) for one. [name_f]Lorna[/name_f] is beautiful, too, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen it mentioned. [name_f]Acacia[/name_f], definitely; also [name_f]Bethia[/name_f], [name_f]Maud[/name_f], [name_f]Evelia[/name_f], [name_f]Meriel[/name_f], some more old-fashioned names like [name_f]Theresa[/name_f] and [name_f]Timothea[/name_f], [name_f]Isolde[/name_f], [name_f]Odette[/name_f] & [name_f]Giselle[/name_f], Annique, [name_f]Rowena[/name_f], [name_f]Bedelia[/name_f], [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f], [name_f]Sylvana[/name_f] . . . [name_f]Isabeau[/name_f]'s another that should be more popular.
I can’t think of many for boys. [name_m]Eleazar[/name_m]/[name_m]Eliezer[/name_m], [name_m]Martin[/name_m], [name_m]Isaac[/name_m], [name_m]Reuel[/name_m], [name_u]Francis[/name_u], [name_m]Philip[/name_m], [name_m]Lemuel[/name_m], [name_m]Lazarus[/name_m], and possibly [name_m]Marius[/name_m]. [name_m]WIll[/name_m] probably add more as I think of them.
@lumen Mabli is a favourite of mine too. If I got to go back and give my daughter a second middle, that would be it. [name_f]Lovely[/name_f] meaning too - definitely need more Mabli love on here!
My top underrated name for a girl is [name_f]Hester[/name_f]. Everyone hates it, but they’re wrong - it’s fab And [name_u]Jesse[/name_u] for a boy, which apparently is a little bit dated/hillbilly in the US but feels fresh here and I love it. It’s picking up in popularity now, actually, but I still think it deserves more love and stop with the “girly” comments!
@katinka, [name_f]Hester[/name_f] Mabli is a pretty awesome combination!
I feel like [name_m]Abner[/name_m] is underrated for a boy- strong while still being simple and easy to pronounce.
For a girl, I think [name_f]Merida[/name_f] is underrated… love the meaning behind it!

[name_f]Gretel[/name_f], [name_f]Liesel[/name_f], Tzeitel
[name_m]Idris[/name_m]
[name_m]Ferdinand[/name_m]
There are so many more…
I keep waiting for [name_f]Clarity[/name_f] to catch on.
[name_f]Maeve[/name_f], [name_f]Linda[/name_f], [name_f]Elise[/name_f], [name_f]Laura[/name_f], and [name_u]Eden[/name_u].
I tend to think simple more traditional names are super underrated. Such as:
[name_f]Elle[/name_f]
[name_f]Molly[/name_f]
[name_f]Jane[/name_f]
[name_f]Isla[/name_f]
[name_f]Eve[/name_f]
[name_f]Rose[/name_f]
I think they may be common but they all sound so simple, sweet, and chic.
I also have always loved the name [name_u]Leighton[/name_u], but have never heard a positive reaction to it.
[name_m]Esra[/name_m] and [name_f]Leilani[/name_f] for a girl.
Especially [name_m]Esra[/name_m] could be one of those names that will become popular when it’s the name of a TV series character.
For girls: [name_f]Rowena[/name_f], [name_f]Thalia[/name_f], [name_f]Amethyst[/name_f], [name_f]India[/name_f], [name_u]Carmen[/name_u], [name_f]Goldie[/name_f], [name_f]Zelda[/name_f], [name_f]Asia[/name_f]
For boys: [name_m]Dmitri[/name_m], [name_m]Hansel[/name_m], [name_m]Jett[/name_m], [name_m]Benji[/name_m], [name_u]Davin[/name_u], [name_u]Navy[/name_u], [name_m]Nash[/name_m], [name_u]Dallas[/name_u]
[name_f]Amabel[/name_f], [name_f]Charlett[/name_f] and Charlica
There are a lot of names that I really like that I wish were used more often (in the US, at least).
