What assumptions would you make about me based on my (potential) kids’ names?

Hey everyone! I have (what I think will be) a bit of a fun question.

I think young kids are generally much more accepting/adaptable towards strange or unconventional names than adults because they don’t know to expect anything different. So I tend not to worry too much about that because I also believe my kids will grow into their names. I am curious as to what their friends’ parents might think though since names are much more of a reflection of the parents than of the kids they belong to.

Some names making me the happiest right now. Including boys too even though this is the girl forum because there are more girls:
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Ariadne[/name_f]
[name_u]Fable[/name_u] [name_f]Matilda[/name_f]
[name_f]Eska[/name_f] [name_u]Briar[/name_u]
[name_f]Wildrose[/name_f] [name_f]Amaia[/name_f]
[name_f]Amity[/name_f] [name_u]Nyx[/name_u]
[name_u]Scout[/name_u] [name_f]Hecate[/name_f]
[name_f]Boheme[/name_f] [name_u]Willow[/name_u]
[name_u]Marvel[/name_u] [name_f]Sabrina[/name_f]
[name_u]Finn[/name_u] [name_m]Galileo[/name_m]
[name_m]Weston[/name_m] Koios
[name_u]Koa[/name_u] Somerled
[name_m]Elio[/name_m] [name_m]Petrichor[/name_m]
[name_u]Ziggy[/name_u] [name_m]Caspian[/name_m]

So let’s say your kid came home talking about their new friend whom they want to set up a play date with. How do you picture the friend’s mom based on their child’s name? (Please be honest! I’m really just curious) These assumptions could be appearance, lifestyle, parenting, aesthetic, or whatever comes to mind. You can pick a single/couple name(s) off the list or just use it as a generalized whole.

Thank you! Looking forward to the responses!

I wanted to preface this by saying that I know a little [name_u]Ziggy[/name_u]. He wears it so well and I think it’s absolutely adorable!

The first assumption I would make about you would be that you like to read, which I absolutely love about your naming style (Ariadne, [name_u]Fable[/name_u], [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], [name_u]Nyx[/name_u], [name_f]Sabrina[/name_f], [name_m]Galileo[/name_m], [name_m]Caspian[/name_m], etc.)
Second, I would assume that you are practical, yet still very creative. By this, I mean that all of your names are very unique, but they wear well in real life. You are clearly imaginative, but I can tell how much meaning each name has to you.

Overall, I love your style so much! [name_f]Wildrose[/name_f] [name_f]Amaia[/name_f] and [name_u]Finn[/name_u] [name_m]Galileo[/name_m] are just stunning!

As you know, I’m not in the US, so I perceive them a little differently than many others on here. Some of these may sound a bit negative but as I don’t encounter these names on a daily basis, they make me think of the people I see them use, and those are mainly on Instagram/Youtube, where they portray themselves a very specific way.

But, forgetting everything I know about you and just going off the names (and given that you mainly know people’s first names)

Rowan Ariadne - Nothing; Rowan feels so on-trend that anybody could pick this. Ariadne would make me think the/one parent is either Greek, teaches Greek myths, or is at least very interested in them. Maybe a college professor or high school history teacher.

Fable Matilda - I’d think of the typical intagram boho mom with children dressed in earth colours, being posed for every picture, probably with a side business selling oils and / or bible quotes on round wooden boards. I wouldn’t necessarily think you are one of those but perhaps that you follow these people on social media and have a similar house/nursery/kids clothing style.

Eska Briar - I may assume you have Nordic heritage but beyond that, not much.

Wildrose Amaia - ditto Fable. Or, that you just bought a farm with livestock and homeschool/unschool (now that I know what that means) your children.

Amity Nyx - this feels like a name a younger parent would choose for their child, very modern and with a slightly unisex vivbe. This also feels like a name that would be chosen by people who live in a big city on the east coast. Maybe with a religious background but Nyx would make me doubt it.

Scout Hecate - ditto Rowan.

Boheme Willow - ditto Fable.

Marvel Sabrina - ditto Amity. I would also assume the parent is a big Marvel fan.

Finn Galileo - ditto Rowan and Scout.

Weston Koios - see above. And if I knew the middle name, also that it sounds very similar to koitus

Koa Somerled - also an “Instagram mom” name to me, however, here I see the family living in Hawaii, being vegan and living a “healthy” lifestyle.

Elio Petrichor - similar to Eska; perhaps you have Italian heritage or perhaps you liked that one movie or perhaps you just wanted a name that was similar to but not as popular as Elias, Elliot, etc.

Ziggy Caspian - ditto Amity & Marvel.

I’d assume you were creative, clever and confident - someone who believes in letting their kids be entirely themselves

What an interesting question… Some of the names on your list would make me assume a lefty / boho / intellectual type, with a cute, quippy taste in names: [name_u]Fable[/name_u], [name_f]Amity[/name_f], [name_m]Elio[/name_m], [name_u]Ziggy[/name_u]

Some of the names on your list are a little too much for my taste - They give me the impression of trying too hard and seem unfair on the kid - Like your lumbering them with a very specific identity you want them to have - [name_f]Wildrose[/name_f], [name_f]Boheme[/name_f], [name_u]Marvel[/name_u].

A lot of the middle names just seem made up - Somerled, Koios, [name_f]Hecate[/name_f], [name_m]Petrichor[/name_m] - They would have me a little confused.

And [name_u]Finn[/name_u] would make me assume common / middle class - It’s much more of a safe choice.

They’re not made-up but they are quite unfamiliar so I can see why people would feel that way! Somerled is a Scottish name meaning “summer traveler”, Koios and Hecate are both from Greek mythology (Koios is a titan god of intelligence and Hecate is the Greek goddess of witchcraft, crossroads, and the underworld, and means “far off”), and Petrichor is a word to describe the first scent of rain after a long dry spell

I would assume that you were free spirited and have a boho or eclectic aesthetic. I would assume you like nature but arent too far behind in pop culture either.

These names are out there for me but boho trendy in my head. So Id think you were not traditional and valued being seen as unique. Id be prepared to meet someone who may see me as boring lolol

[name_f]My[/name_f] dad says:

“She’s obsessed with names” (he said that in a good way)
“She either doesn’t care about what other people think or she wants people to pay attention to her names”
“If I just saw one then I would just think ‘that’s an interesting name’ but if I saw 20 I would think she’s really pushing the envelope”
“Willing to bet that she’s European but not in Europe”

I hope that helps!

I would imagine you strongly encourage individuality and assertiveness in your children. You want your kids to travel and experience new things, but you remain plugged into conventional life and live in a suburban or urban environment. You will be open about your kids’ lives to other people and on social media. You encourage athletic and artistic interests. You are very big on teaching bodily autonomy and consent. You are not traditional or religious, and you will encourage your kids to buck convention.

I would want to hang out with said mum, as they would seem like they have a care free, love of nature and the Greek myths vibe about them. Which I feel is more exciting than your typical run of the mill names. But I really don’t judge people for their name choices ( unless they were absolutely absurd like Kim Kardashian childrens names etc)

I would say some of your name choices were very bold as they are more associated with the uncommon Greek deities etc.
