What colour is your alphabet?

I’ve seen the topic of what colours certain letters “feel” like a few times, and am super curious to see what the average responses are, especially since my sister and I have had some weird debates over certain letters.
If the exact colour is not listed, vote for the closest one(s).

This is fascinating! Especially the few letters that (at least as of now) seem to be the same color for almost everybody – I wonder why!

a lot of them are the beginning letter of the colour name which is probably a subconscious association we all have! but it is really interesting to see the ones that aren’t.

I noticed that too, I wonder how it varies in other languages

Mine is also influenced by [name_u]French[/name_u] eg V is green because of vert, R is pinky red because of rose and J is yellowy orange because of jaune. So fascinating!

The letters I voted white are white because they reflect the colors of the letters around them and can be very versatile, if that makes any sense.

The actual name for seeing letters and numbers in color is synesthesia. This is a real thing. Neither of my parents have it but my sister and I do. My sister and I literally have arguments about the colors of letters.

For D, K, M, N, U, and Z, those letters often blend so I voted for a color that I associate with a name that includes those letters and then black to show that it’s often colorless to me. For O and W, they are actually black.

Because of stuff like this :sob: I think when we’re really little we see those charts so often that after a while we start to associate the color of the letter on the chart with the letter in general

@AKGirl is right, seeing colors with letters (really, consistently seeing the same colors for the same letters, as if their being that color is an indisputable fact, not deciding the colors for yourself) is synesthesia! It’s rare, but it’s so cool! There are also other forms of synesthesia including perceiving personalities with numbers or perceiving colors with numbers or musical notes.

Yea some of them are a tad off  E is definetly green and how in the world is L teal L is yellow

Yes! A being red and G being orange are the most accurate for me from that chart. Also Q being a deep purple/blue.

That’s exactly how I see it too!
