What could “Cozy” be short for?

My daughter mentioned that there is a girl in her grade that goes by the nickname “Cozy” (not sure of the spelling but at least that’s how it’s pronounced). She doesn’t know what the girl’s full first name is, and as a huge name nerd I’m dying of suspense. A fifth grader named [name_f]Concettina[/name_f]? [name_f]Cosima[/name_f]? [name_f]Cosette[/name_f]???

I would go look in the yearbook, but the girl is new to the school this year. I’ll have to wait until this year’s yearbook comes out—ugh! Months from now.

I told my daughter to try and ask the girl, but they’re not in the same class and aren’t close friends, so she says it’d be weird…

Yes, I know I do need to get a life! #NameObsession

Any guesses?

my first thought was [name_f]Cosette[/name_f] but then I thought it could be something as simple as [name_f]Chloe[/name_f]. Maybe a sibling couldnt pronounce the Chl sound and Cozy just happened

I love Cozy/Cosy as a nn for [name_f]Cosima[/name_f] so that’s what first came to mind. Could also be [name_f]Constance[/name_f]?

I know a [name_f]Cosette[/name_f] that goes by Cozy.

I would love for it to be short for [name_f]Cosima[/name_f] or [name_f]Cosette[/name_f] as well.

Oh I hope she’s [name_f]Cosette[/name_f] haha. I just love that name and nickname!!

[name_f]Cosima[/name_f] was my first thought.

Omg I do that too with my sister’s yearbooks! I hope she’s a [name_f]Cosette[/name_f] or [name_f]Cosima[/name_f]. Last summer I met a boy at the neighborhood pool who goes to my youngest sister’s school named [name_m]Killian[/name_m], which is crazy for where I live because 90% of the boys in my area are either [name_m]Jackson[/name_m], [name_m]Jacob[/name_m], or [name_m]Luke[/name_m]. I found out he had a sister and asked [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] what her name was but she could only tell me that she is called “[name_m]Killian[/name_m]’s annoying little sister” ([name_m]RIP[/name_m]). Found out after I stole her yearbook last [name_f]May[/name_f] that her name is [name_f]Maelys[/name_f]! I was stunned! 90% of the girls are either [name_f]Ava[/name_f], [name_f]Sophia[/name_f], or [name_f]Olivia[/name_f].

Always fun when people use more exciting names.

Wow, @sparkleninja18! [name_m]How[/name_m] do you pronounce [name_f]Maelys[/name_f]? [name_f]May[/name_f]-liss?

My first thought was [name_f]Cosette[/name_f].

[name_f]Cosima[/name_f] and [name_f]Cosette[/name_f] are my immediate thoughts, but I suppose you could pull it from [name_f]Constance[/name_f] or even [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] with an “S” middle? If you go that route, it could be any number of things, though, lol.

ETA: Side note, [name_u]Abby[/name_u], [name_m]Killian[/name_m] and [name_f]Maelys[/name_f] is GORGEOUS! I wonder if she says it the [name_m]French[/name_m] mye-lees way?

The one Cozi I know is a [name_f]Cozette[/name_f]. [name_f]Cosette[/name_f] and [name_f]Cosima[/name_f] (or [name_f]Constance[/name_f]) are also stunning options!

[name_f]Cosette[/name_f] as a [name_u]Les[/name_u] Miz reference. Cozy is super cute!

Hmm, @dream.crate, [name_f]Cozette[/name_f] is an interesting variation.

@rosegoldheart, I like [name_f]Cosette[/name_f], but as a [name_u]Les[/name_u] Miz reference wouldn’t it be kind of tragic? I am ashamed to say I’ve never seen/read [name_u]Les[/name_u] Miz.

I tend to nickname people I like or love and sometimes the nickname has nothing to do with their names.

It could be a pet name for [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] or any other c name.

Cozy is sweet and I like [name_f]Chatty[/name_f] too.

[name_f]Cosette[/name_f] was my first thought, too.

No, [name_f]Cosette[/name_f] wouldn’t be a super tragic namesake (other than her childhood).

I think my favorite potential long form is still [name_f]Cosima[/name_f].

Maybe I will ask our neighbor kid who is in their grade and see if he knows.

To be continued…

Ok, my daughter asked the girl, and her name is [name_f]Cosette[/name_f]!

Interesting!

[name_m]Just[/name_m] in case anyone else was on the edge of her seat…

Haha, I was! [name_f]Cosette[/name_f] is sweet, but I’m a bit disappointed it wasn’t [name_f]Cosima[/name_f]

My first thought was [name_f]Cosette[/name_f]
