Hey Berries. I am pregnant with my third child and I love the nickname [name]Tess[/name]. But I don’t really like [name]Tessa[/name] or [name]Therese[/name], and I don’t really like [name]Tess[/name] as a name on its own either. Any suggestions for what else [name]Tess[/name] could be short for? [name]Do[/name] you think I could get away with [name]Tess[/name]-short-for-[name]Esther[/name], or is that too obscure? My other two kids have old-fashioned but unusual names. Thanks!
[name]Thalia[/name]? It’s a stretch without that “ess” sound, I know. But I think it would be sweet, especially if you could get the “ess” part in a middle name.
I think [name]Esther[/name] could work! But here are a few names for you to look at;
[name]Tressa[/name]
[name]Thessaly[/name]
Tassia
[name]Tasmine[/name]
Contessa
[name]Theodosia[/name]
[name]Estella[/name]/e
Tessalyn
I don’t get it. I don’t mean that to be snarky - I really don’t get it.
You don’t like [name]Tess[/name] as a stand-alone name, you don’t like [name]Tessa[/name] or [name]Therese[/name], so why are you looking for a name that you can contort into the nn [name]Tess[/name]?
I understand what you’re asking, I just don’t understand why you’d want to do it. People on here seem always to be looking for ways to ‘get to’ nicknames, and ending up with ‘[name]How[/name] can I get to [name]Honey[/name]?’ or ‘[name]How[/name] can I get to [name]Lulu[/name]?’. You can ‘get to’ it however you want, but there are only ever a few ways that aren’t going to look completely contrived.
(Sorry if this sounds rude, it’s really not supposed to, I just want to understand!)
I think [name]Esther[/name], with a nickname of [name]Tess[/name], is an inspired idea. Go for it!
I did a search for names containing ‘tes’ and got these:
[name]Cortes[/name]ía
[name]Countess[/name]
[name]Latesha[/name]
[name]Letesha[/name]
[name]Leteshia[/name]
[name]Martes[/name]
[name]Quintesa[/name]
[name]Quintesha[/name]
[name]Quintessa[/name]
[name]Quintessence[/name]
[name]Quintessia[/name]
[name]Stesha[/name]
[name]Steshka[/name]
[name]Tesa[/name]
[name]Tesia[/name]
[name]Teskia[/name]
[name]Tesora[/name]
[name]Tess[/name]
[name]Tessa[/name]
[name]Tessee[/name]
[name]Tessi[/name]
[name]Tessia[/name]
[name]Tessie[/name]
[name]Tessy[/name]
[name]Tesza[/name]
None of them appeal to me though, so I think that you’ll need to be a bit more creative in the link - all I can think of is [name]Anastasia[/name]? I think [name]Esther[/name] is still a good option though.
I know, I know, re not liking [name]Tess[/name], [name]Tessa[/name] or [name]Therese[/name] as a stand alone name! And I see your point re contrived nicknames. I just think [name]Tessa[/name] sounds a bit prissy and [name]Therese[/name]/ [name]Theresa[/name] sounds a bit 1970s-country-Catholic. (I’m from Australia.) And [name]Tess[/name] on its own is my favourite nickname, but it doesn’t look like enough to me on a birth certificate…
Thanks for the suggestions. I don’t mind [name]Quintessa[/name] but that’s certainly a very big name - something to think about! I’ve got another four months.
I love [name]Tess[/name] as a nn for [name]Esther[/name]! Good idea.
p.s I’m curious what your other kids’ names are, will you share?
I’ve heard [name]Tess[/name] as a nn for [name]September[/name].
Probably not what you’re looking for.
Fair enough! Thanks for explaining. I do see where you’re coming from - I’m Aussie too, and I totally agree re: [name]Therese[/name]/[name]Theresa[/name]!
I really like the idea of [name]Tess[/name] as a NN for [name]Esther[/name]. I’ve heard it a few times on the board, and really like the idea and feel it works!
I love the idea of [name]Esther[/name], nn [name]Tess[/name]!
[name]Tess[/name] is one of my favorite nn’s as well.
I just love the name [name]Tess[/name] as a stand alone name tho I prefer [name]Tessa[/name], but I think you can do [name]Esther[/name], nn [name]Tess[/name].
[name]Elizabeth[/name]. It’s like [name]Bess[/name], or [name]Bessie[/name], only [name]Tess[/name].
[name]Tirzah[/name] seems like it could work well?
[name]LOVE[/name] the suggestion of [name]Tirzah[/name] and I really think it works for [name]Elisabeth[/name], too.
I looked on BTN and I found - Tessan, [name]Tesia[/name].
I ahve also seen Tessandra, I don’t know if that appeals to you.
[name_f]My[/name_f] brother was only 17 months older than me and called me [name_f]Tessie[/name_f] or [name_f]Tess[/name_f] because he couldn’t say [name_f]Stephanie[/name_f].
Otessa
[name_f]Odessa[/name_f]
[name_f]Ottilie[/name_f]
A bit of a stretch I came up with but seems to be loved on this sub is [name_f]Esther[/name_f] “Tess”
