I like the Polish version [name_m]Henryk[/name_m] too
I like [name_m]Henrik[/name_m] a lot! I like [name_m]Enzo[/name_m] a lot, too, and also simple [name_m]Henry[/name_m]. I think all of those options are super fantastic, and would love to meet a little boy of any of those names!
As for the Italian-Canadian family using a Scandinavian name thing, I think it still can be done. I’m an English-[name_m]German[/name_m]-Swiss-Irish-[name_m]French[/name_m]-Native American, and yet I’d use the Greek [name_f]Eleni[/name_f] or the Italian [name_f]Giovanna[/name_f] or the Dutch Madelief in a heartbeat. I would love to meet a little [name_m]Henrik[/name_m], and it’s such a spunky and cool name! I think that’s what I love about names from other cultures, though (and they’re all over my list!)–they always feel so spunky and cool and unexpected, and that’s exactly what [name_m]Henrik[/name_m] is, with a good heaping of heart, too. I think once your son is [name_m]Henrik[/name_m], people will just adjust, too. I know a lot of people with unusual names, some made up (like [name_f]Nor[/name_f]@lys or M@rwayne or R@h@sha) and some unusual gems (like [name_f]Milana[/name_f], [name_f]Mireya[/name_f], Ivelisse, and [name_f]Bruna[/name_f]), and the reaction is always the same: “oh, that’s different” (not in a bad way, maybe in a good way, but it’s definitely not another [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] or [name_m]Liam[/name_m]), which, over time, just morphs into, “that’s just who (s)he is.” I think names from other cultures are infinitely usable, and I’d love to meet a little Italian-Canadian [name_m]Henrik[/name_m]!
I like [name_m]Henrik[/name_m] a lot, and I think that if you were going to go for a [name_m]Henry[/name_m] variant that would be a great one to choose.
That said, I think [name_m]Henry[/name_m] is wonderfully classic and timeless (even though it’s gotten a bit more popular lately) and I think that’s a great choice too.
[name_m]Henrik[/name_m] is my absolutely favourite.
I wouldn’t think twice about a [name_m]Henrik[/name_m] without Scandinavian roots. I see it sort of like [name_f]Freya[/name_f] - not restricted to its place of origin. I love the name!
My favorite nickname for [name_m]Henry[/name_m] is [name_m]Hank[/name_m]. I also really like [name_m]Henry[/name_m] as just [name_m]Henry[/name_m]. I also love Henrik.
I love [name_m]Henrik[/name_m], if my DH had let me use it In would have. We have no Scandi or [name_m]German[/name_m] roots, hence why DH wasn’t convinced.
Italian person here. enzo is Not from [name_m]Henry[/name_m] (enrico). it’s from [name_m]Vincenzo[/name_m] or [name_m]Lorenzo[/name_m].
I really like [name_m]Henrik[/name_m].
I voted for [name_m]Henry[/name_m] because I thought you were looking to use the other three as nn options, not completely separate name choices.
[name_m]Just[/name_m] [name_m]Henry[/name_m]!!! [name_m]Henry[/name_m] is too classic and traditional too change it up:)
I love [name_m]Enzo[/name_m]. it is one of my favorite names.
second choice would be [name_m]Hendrik[/name_m]
None of the names in the poll are diminutives of [name_m]Henry[/name_m]. But I think [name_m]Henrik[/name_m] or [name_m]Hendrik[/name_m] is perfectly usable without a Scandinavian background.
I agree w/southern.maple; none of the non-[name_m]Henry[/name_m] names are diminutives of [name_m]Henry[/name_m]. Of the other options, I like [name_m]Hendrik[/name_m] & see no reason why it couldn’t be used by someone w/no Scandinavian background. I don’t know if [name_m]Hendrix[/name_m] is an option…?
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you mean diminutive or variation? Those are really variations of [name_m]Henry[/name_m]. My favourite variations are [name_m]Henri[/name_m] (the [name_m]French[/name_m] var.), [name_m]Hendrix[/name_m] or [name_m]Henrik[/name_m] which is really funky. I don’t think you need Scandinavian heritage to use it as it is relatively common.
(Common diminutives of [name_m]Henry[/name_m] are [name_m]Harry[/name_m], [name_m]Hank[/name_m], Henty or [name_m]Hal[/name_m].)
Also, while [name_m]Enzo[/name_m] is related to [name_m]Henry[/name_m], it is most commonly used as a diminutive of [name_m]Vincenzo[/name_m], so I think using it if you mean [name_m]Henry[/name_m] may be confusing.
[name_m]Henrik[/name_m] is my favorite.
