Is the alliteration cute or too much/kind of clunky?
I love alliteration but this combination isn’t for me I’m not keen on either name that aside I think the combination is verging on a bit to clunky.
Neither name is quite my style, and it is a bit clunky, but some people find that charming. I feel like it could work, but like I said, not my style.
I find alliterative G especially doesn’t make for the best speech experience, it’s very tight in the teeth and a little whooshy. So I wouldn’t go for it, just on these factors I would go for a different name with [name_m]Gerald[/name_m] (an honour?).
It sounds very confusing in my mouth because of the double soft-G. I’d much prefer [name_m]George[/name_m] [name_m]Garrison[/name_m] or [name_m]George[/name_m] [name_m]Gregory[/name_m] etc.
[name_m]The[/name_m] alliteration doesn’t bother me, but the shared “juh” (/d͡ʒ/) ending of [name_m]George[/name_m] blurring into the start of [name_m]Gerald[/name_m] does, unfortunately. I think [name_f]Georgie[/name_f] [name_m]Gerald[/name_m], [name_m]Georg[/name_m] [name_m]Gerald[/name_m], or [name_m]George[/name_m] [name_m]Fitzgerald[/name_m] would sound better.
I like [name_m]George[/name_m] but not [name_m]Gerald[/name_m] and not together.
I’m pro alliteration, and I like both [name_m]George[/name_m] and [name_m]Gerald[/name_m], and I think personality wise it is the perfect amount of little old man quirky-clunky, but I agree with the others that I find it a little tongue-twistery, and would be more in favor of it if they didn’t both start with the jor-jair sounds? [name_m]George[/name_m] [name_m]Gilbert[/name_m], [name_m]George[/name_m] [name_m]Gulliver[/name_m], [name_m]George[/name_m] [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m], etc., all are really great but my tongue gets tied up trying to say [name_m]George[/name_m] [name_m]Gerald[/name_m]. Sorry! Good luck!
I knew someone with a really similar first and surname combo like this. [name_m]Not[/name_m] my style, but I don’t mind them together
Yes - it’s not that they both start with the same sound, it’s that the same sound is also at the end of [name_m]George[/name_m] so it all blurs together. [name_m]Like[/name_m], not saying you should take this option but [name_m]Geoffrey[/name_m] [name_m]Gerald[/name_m] has easier flow because it doesn’t have that extra ‘juh’ in the middle?
[name_m]Gerald[/name_m] kills it for me. I don’t have any issues with alliteration.
I love [name_m]Gerald[/name_m] and don’t mind [name_m]George[/name_m], but the repeated ‘j’ and ‘r’ is not the best for flow.
Thanks everyone! [name_m]You[/name_m] are confirming my initial opinion!!
I like [name_m]George[/name_m] a lot, it’s such a solid classic. [name_m]Gerald[/name_m] feels a bit more dated to me too, but I don’t mind it in the middle spot, it has that old-school charm.
That said, I’m not totally sold on [name_m]George[/name_m] [name_m]Gerald[/name_m] as a combo. [name_m]The[/name_m] alliteration is quite strong, and with both G’s making the same sound (plus [name_m]George[/name_m] already ending in a g sound), it feels a bit heavy/clunky to say out loud.
