What do think of the name Damien

What do you think of the name [name_m]Damien[/name_m]?

I personally find it a little dated as the only [name_m]Damien[/name_m]/[name_m]Damian[/name_m]'s I know are in their 30s now. That might just be a local thing though. It’s a nice name, though it does still remind me of horror movie The Omen.

I prefer [name_u]Darian[/name_u] but that’s just my personal preference.

It is not a common name at all but all those old names are making a comeback

I love the name [name_m]Damian[/name_m]. I’ve always been drawn to it. I prefer to spell it [name_m]Damian[/name_m]. The Ien ending doesn’t look right to me.

I [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] [name_m]Damien[/name_m]. It’s my favorite name. It’s strong, handsome, sort of sexy, a little dark and mischivous and still has nicknames. I don’t understand so many people who have problems with it because of the Omen. There are tons of girl [name_u]Reagan[/name_u]'s, there are [name_u]Freddie[/name_u]'s, [name_m]Jason[/name_m]'s, [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f]'s etc that no one complains about. :stuck_out_tongue:

I love [name_m]Damien[/name_m], it’s dark and sexy but still accessible. I used it on my first bunny baby when I was about 11. I wish I had thought to save it.

I love it. I default to [name_m]Damian[/name_m], but either way. I don’t find it dated. I’ve only ever known one, so…

I have to agree that it is sexy.

Thanks guys love this name too

I think of a very handsome sexy guy would have that name with a little mystery

I like [name_m]Damian[/name_m] (this spelling only). [name_m]Damian[/name_m] is a saints name - strong yet soft, romantic and dashing. When spelled [name_m]Damien[/name_m], it becomes the child of Satan in “The Omen” film. Isn’t it amazing what one letter can do to a name’s image?

I forgot in my original post that I love the [name_m]Damien[/name_m] spelling (never even knew that was how the kids name was spelled in the movie until I joined Nameberry) because for some reason, the e makes it look more streamlined and just…right. I used it in my first ‘novel’ when I was 13 as the brother of the hero who is complex and conflicted and he made me love it so much my first son will be a [name_m]Damien[/name_m].

For what it’s worth, the only person outside of nameberry who has ever said anything negative about this name to me was my 66 year old grandma. She didn’t mention the movie, just said “Isn’t that an evil name?” and moved on. I’ve never had anyone else say anything negative except on this website. I’ve also known a few [name_m]Damien[/name_m]'s of varying ages, all younger than me (22) and they never get problems from their peers. So don’t let comments on this site bother you. From my own experience, it’s practically only this site that still cares about that movie :stuck_out_tongue:

I didn’t know this! Okay OP, I stand by [name_u]Mischa[/name_u]'s point

My exact thoughts ^.

[name_m]Damien[/name_m] is, quite literally, devil spawn. As someone who works in a class room, it’s safe to say, if I saw [name_m]Damien[/name_m] on my class list, I might be a bit scared. [name_m]Damian[/name_m] however, I don’t mind.

I love it! I do prefer the [name_m]Damian[/name_m] spelling, but mostly for the NN [name_m]Ian[/name_m]. I don’t view [name_m]Damien[/name_m] as an evil name because of St. [name_m]Damien[/name_m] of Molokai (But then again, there is a St. [name_m]Damian[/name_m]; twin brother [name_m]Cosmas[/name_m]). I think it’s a dashing name that still retains it’s masculinity; a win win.

I like it too. There are three different saints named [name_m]Damien[/name_m] – [name_m]Damien[/name_m] of Molokai, [name_m]Damien[/name_m] Nam Myong-hyok, and [name_m]Damien[/name_m] Yamiki – so I don’t understand why only [name_m]Damian[/name_m] is considered a saint name. There were two [name_m]Damian[/name_m]'s who were saints, a [name_m]Damianus[/name_m] and three Damiens. [name_m]Damien[/name_m] is not an evil name. There is no such thing as an evil name, only evil people. It’s not connected to a real monster like [name_m]Jeffery[/name_m]/[name_m]Ted[/name_m]/[name_m]Albert[/name_m]/[name_m]Joachim[/name_m]/[name_m]Dennis[/name_m]/etc which are all the names of notorious and terrible serial killers that no one has a problem using. I’s not [name_m]Adolph[/name_m]/[name_m]Lucifer[/name_m]/Stalin etc.

It’s a handsome saints name. I like it.

I literally LOLed at this.

There was actually a survey done with teachers in the UK about what names make teachers shudder on lists - it’s true. A few names do actually do that. As of right now, based on the classes I’ve been in, the name [name_f]Eva[/name_f] on a list might just make me cringe, and [name_f]Nevaeh[/name_f]/[name_f]Neveah[/name_f]. I had one named [name_f]Neveah[/name_f] (yes, [name_f]Heaven[/name_f] backwards with the e&a reversed…) and I had a terrible time trying to spell her name. I think if I see another, I’ll have to hold in a groan! The horror movie names do it a bit too, [name_m]Damien[/name_m], [name_m]Chuckie[/name_m], [name_f]Carrie[/name_f], yeah, not so sure I’d be completely thrilled to see those :stuck_out_tongue:
