What do we think of Ellender?

I like surname girls’ names. I was just reading the Vogue profile of [name_u]Blake[/name_u] Lively & Ellender is her middle.

With a very feminine middle maybe? nn [name_f]Elle[/name_f]? Sibset would be [name_m]Lennox[/name_m].

Hmm, I like Ellender. It’s odd but fascinating

I’m not a fan, it sounds like “[name_f]Ellen[/name_f], derrrr” as in like ‘duh’, it just doesn’t sound appealing to my ears, but I’m assuming it’s a surname in [name_u]Blake[/name_u] Lively’s family and that’s why she has it?

I think it is [name_u]Blake[/name_u]'s MIDDLE name for a reason. Not her first name.

Plus all the [name_f]El[/name_f]- names are so trendy these days. Everyone wants an [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]. Ellender will just look like your attempt to be more creative than those with [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], [name_f]Elle[/name_f], [name_f]Ella[/name_f], [name_f]Ellia[/name_f], [name_f]Elliana[/name_f], [name_f]Elena[/name_f], [name_u]Elliot[/name_u], Elliette, [name_f]Elise[/name_f], [name_u]Ellery[/name_u], [name_f]Elodie[/name_f], [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], [name_f]Elsa[/name_f], Plus don’t forgot the L names which will just add to the confusion [name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_f]Lila[/name_f] [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] [name_f]Layla[/name_f] [name_f]Lola[/name_f] [name_f]Leila[/name_f] [name_f]Lyra[/name_f].

[name_m]Don[/name_m]'t get me wrong a lot of these names are gorgeous!! It’s just the combination that’s going to make a whole generation sick of L / [name_f]EL[/name_f]…

I don’t really love it. It is off in some way. It’s not [name_f]Ellen[/name_f], its not [name_m]Anders[/name_m], instead it is an awkward hybrid: Ellender…and it rhymes with calendar. For me it misses the target.

When I seen the title of this thread, I first thought it was a boy name that I never heard before but kinda like the sound of. I can’t picture it on a girl, even as a middle and even with the “ellen-”. What @lawsonhaley said makes sense to me, that it might have been a surname in her family that they decided to use as a middle.

I don’t think it would go well with [name_m]Lennox[/name_m]. Same sounds, so it would blend together if you tried to call or say their names together, or even just call to one of them. I’d probably stay away from any or most “el” or “leh” sounding names for that reason, honestly.

It sounds super masculine to me, not really something I’d picture on a little girl. And Ellende (without the R) means something along the lines of “sorrow, misfortune” in Dutch (my native language) so I have kind of a negative association towards it (although I don’t think it’s really an issue if your child will never visit the Netherlands).
